Bomberman Blast ignites WiiWare

Hudson's adorable demolitions expert joins Alien Crush sci-fi pinball remake as upcoming additions to Nintendo's online storefront.

Nintendo's Virtual Console for the Wii has become well stocked with classic games from a variety of veteran developers, and one of the leading contributors has been Hudson Entertainment. With the launch of WiiWare for Nintendo's console this year, Hudson has been just as inclined to lend the service original downloadable games such as Star Soldier R and My Aquarium. Today, the Japanese publisher announced two more WiiWare additions: Bomberman Blast and Alien Crush Returns.

Bomberman Blast offers a new take on Hudson's demolitions-expert mascot, with the most notable addition to the classic bomb-or-be-bombed action strategy game being online multiplayer. The game will support worldwide online play for up to eight, with up to four players from a single console able to join a match. Online play will be augmented by the addition of leaderboards and tournaments.

The game will also support Mii integration, in that players can take to the grid of battle with avatars of their own creation. Other features slated to appear in the WiiWare game include a variety of arenas as well as tweaks to the tried-and-true Bomberman formula, such as new weapons.

Alien Crush Returns is a remake of Hudson's sci-fi pinball game released for the TurboGrafx-16 in 1988. Classic pinball given an interstellar twist, Alien Crush Returns features extraterrestrial landscapes in which aliens attempt to impede players' pinball shots from hitting their targets. The game will feature online support for head-to-head score showdowns, as well as leaderboards and tournaments.

Hudson has not yet revealed pricing information or release dates for the downloadable games.

I haven't played a Bomberman game since the SNES version. This might rekindle the interest. I need an external hard drive for my Wii thoough. I dont want to have to remove my SNES VC games for this. I can't even fit my N64 VC games on!

Hey, any game with online compatibility like this should be a blast. It really is the one area missing from a lot of Wii titles, Virtual or otherwise. Looking forward to Bomberman, especially. Takes me back to the days when I still played games in arcades!

If you want to know about Alien Crush pick up Devil's Crush on the VC. the original alien crush is what inspired Devil's Crush and they are pretty similar games. Personally I can't wait for Alien Crush, but then I've always had a thing for pinball.

Bomberman looks great, but I can't say that I'm sold on the Pinball game. Now I really need to pick up some Wii points...

I hope Bomberman would at least have "one copy download play" like Dr. Mario does. That'd be a great thing.

Man, the latest WiiWare games are awesome. However, it has really become of hassle when it comes to storage. Delete, redownload, delete again and download again. This is getting annoying. NINTENDO DO SOMETHING ALREADY!!!

Two WiiWare titles with awesome potential ... and even when they launch, you'll still see people complain about "Where's my Super Mario RPG?" or "Where's my Majora's Mask?" in the forums. Oh well, can't please everyone. Me, I can't wait for these games

Online play makes this pot sweet! Wiiware hasn't been too hot, for me anyway. I would've already bought Midnight Pool, & that blockball game, but I didn't like the presentation, or aesthetic, of either games. & I haven't liked how most Wiiware titles are 1000pt.s

A Bomberman, eh? Awesome, can't wait to play it.

And Alien Crush Returns, sounds pretty good. I like a good pinball game. Anyway, hope these games come out soon, they sound good.

The games will be 700 pt.s if not 1000, probably. This is pretty cool. Wiiware hasn't been lookin' good from my pov, but everyone's taste differs. I would get Midnight Pool, & that blockball game, but I didn't like the asthetic, or presentation of either games.

This looks awesome, but I already have bomberman live, so they'll have to announce something other than Mii support to make this a buy for me.
