Rumour surfaces about new controller from Microsoft; Konami rep. claims new '16-way' d-pad will be bundled with Pro Evolution Soccer 2009.

While Microsoft claims that it has nothing new for Leipzig this year, a new controller for the Xbox 360 has surfaced on Konami's booth. It appears to be the same as the standard wireless model, but in a brand new fluorescent green colour. When questioned about the new model, a spokesperson for Konami UK said that it features a new 16-direction d-pad that improves the previous version's four. He also suggested that the new controller would be bundled with Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, at least in Europe.

A report on Eurogamer says that Microsoft has confirmed the existence of the controller, and that it will be a limited edition release in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

    So, now instead of it going up and left when I press on the d-pad, it'll go, up, left, right, center, and up again? MS! DETACH THE FREAKING D-PAD BUTTONS ALREADY!

    No doubt, the 360 current controllers have very poor d-pads. Change the colour, and we'll start talking.

    I would not mind seeing a deep red color'd controller... Kinda Metallic if you want. That'd be sexy.

    the made it for pro evolution 2009 or winning eleven
    16 way D-pad so pros can now play PES with 16 way D-pad instead of analog stick
    every one know u can juggle more with the D-pad

    if green at all....why did they have to choose puke green? same goes for all these colors they have come out with. why baby blue? why pink? the red and black are the only ones that make sense. along with the traditional white of course.

    I know you can change the cases for controllers but they should come out with a purple 360 controller. AWESOME!

    there is definently a red one. You can even reserve it on gamestop.com. Anyway, I wish we would get a cool green one in the states.

    Hang on is that why i suck at so many multi player games? Is that why i have so many uncompleted games? After 2 years of owning an xbox 360 ive been using the wrong bit of a controller, silly me i thought the D-pad was just used to select weapons or change items. All this time ive been using the joystick to move round the screen in any direction i wanted. 16 buttons are good if a game developer uses them, but honestly how many buttons do you really need? If your fetish is for more buttons get a pc and try playing games with a keyboard and mouse and then cry at sheer amount of button combos you cant remember! I for one don't want to struggle with hard control methods i just wanna be entertained by the game i purchased.

    intresting, keeping in mind that Pre eve. or winning eleven is played in Europe more than US.
    But in the Middle east, it is the number one game, that some ppl dont have other games other than it

    yeah agreed intellectual. the d-pad is the one negative thing of the 360 controller so this is a good improvement providing it works.

    not really cool enough for me to get.. I prefer the analog stick, even in fighting games. maybe if they increased battery life even more or somethin like that...

    The more I look at it , the more I do not care for it...greens not too bad, but I always focused on the d pad as 4 more god given buttons. The more would be merrier, as long as you know what-why. And diffentiate. I already have a directional/look.

    The moment it comes out I'm gonna buy it.
    The horrors of using the current d-pad to play fighting and football (soccer for you Americans) games will finally be resolved.
    I just hope they don't make it a limited edition release but make it their standard controllers.

    Deluhathol, you're missing the point. When the lower edges of the pad are supported by sensors, there won't be the stability issue. Right now there are four switches located under each end of the cross, causing the pad to stand up at the end when you press one of the directions. Adding four additional sensors will make the disk more stable and less wonky over-all. This is great news for us all, and I hope that the tech makes its way to regularly colored controllers as well. Posters should have hope in new development and save their critique for when they actually lay hands on it. Saying something sucks before you even try it makes you look ignorant.

    16 is better than 8 or 4 or whatever we have. What kind of dumb question is "What's the point?" Why wouldn't you want your d-pad to be more precise when you press it in a direction? You're an idiot if you think it's dumb to make the d-pad better. The color doesn't matter either; who cares what color your controller is? Mine is black with a white back. I don't care if they match.

    All of you people saying that a 16 way D-Pad is pointless have NEVER played the Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Which because of the faulty d-pad was almost unplayable

    Why does this matter? The D-pad on the X360 controllers is terrible because of the shape of the button, which causes unreliable recognition of movement. For example, I try pressing up and right, it thinks I just pushed it up. It is due to the shape of the pad, not the number of directions. Also, that is a pretty foul colour in my opinion.

    *Sigh* The reason the D-Pad sucked is because it's a big plastic circle, not because it was 8 directional. The PS3, and even the original nintendo had a better D-pad than this controller, and they were only 8 directional...

    This thing is awful. Even though it would help with fighting games, I would lose the fight anyways since I would be too busy staring at this ugly thing.
