GameInvest molds World of Zellians

Portuguese developer plans society-building strategy game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PC this fall.

Portugal isn't particularly known for its gaming-industry clout, but the country isn't devoid of development houses. Today, GameInvest, one such company with roots in the Iberian Peninsula, announced that it was working on World of Zellians, a civilization-building strategy game in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PC.

The game is set in a fictional world in which players are charged with taking a civilization from its inauspicious beginnings as a small village up to a fully autonomous modern society. Players must sustain their societies by planning out and executing on the minutiae of daily life, from building streets to erecting farms and watermills.

Adding a rub to the players' endeavors, the evil god Zorm conspires to undermine the budding Zellian Empire by spreading his corruptive influence. As the all-powerful ruler of the Zellians, players will be afforded a number of options to control their civilizations, including managing weather and time.

GameInvest expects to launch World of Zellians this fall, though the developer notes that it is still in the process of securing a publisher.

When I first read the name, I thought World of Zellians was going to be a satire of World of Warcraft. Guess not.

This game looks interesting. I will probably pick it up. Hopefully it is an XBLA game, but I can't really tell from the description

Portugal is a cool and creative place. They are very receptive to new technology. I met people there who drank and drew. On napkins, or notepads and stuff. I was stunned. Drawing games. Puzzles. Doodles. -It is a whole country of night owls too.

Apart from that share, this game looks 2D and interesting in a Nintendo DS sort of way. A Sim city with "minutiae detail" from village to modern society vs. an evil god called Zorm? I am interested.
