Ubisoft arms Armored Core Sept. 16

Thirteenth edition of From Software's futuristic mech-combat shooter heads to the Xbox 360, PS3 next month.

Ubisoft isn't making gamers wait long for From Software's next installment in its long-running Armored Core franchise. After announcing Armored Core: For Answer at the end of July, the publisher said today that the high-octane mech-combat shooter will boost onto the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 beginning on September 16.

For Answer hopes to once again pique the interest of mech-enthused gamers with a slew of new customization options and combat scenarios. Taking a cue out of From Software's other mech-combat game, Chromehounds, For Answer will feature monolithic mobile fortresses in a series of 10 David-and-Goliath-style boss fights.

The game includes a handful of other features, such as an online co-op mode with 30 missions and eight-player online melees in 80 different arenas. From Software is also giving players the option of beginner and advanced control schemes to ease new pilots into the game.

For answers on what this, the 13th installment in the Armored Core franchise, brings to the table, check out GameSpot's Q&A with Ubisoft associate producer Kenan Alpay.

I've never played any of the AC games before, but I own and love Mech Assault. Ubisoft makes some great games, and I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Unfortunatly the past couple of AC games has been lacking in quality and UI friendliness, Mechwarrior I think has sat off away from the spotlight long enough, JW since you bought the electronic rights to produce Battletech related titles why haven't we heard any news of anything in development. As a 13 year vetern of Mechwarrior titles (beginning with 2) Yeah AC has us on the total customization, along with Chromehounds but, MechAssault even with it's lack of customization that the other titles had got the feel right.

are mission still gonna be 5 minutes short?

cuz I'd hate to waste 3/4 of my time on the customization menu...

I wouldn't mind another Mech Warrior game although the company which presently controls all that stuff has been dealing with financial and legal troubles. Actually, I think they're done with all that but they're still recovering from it.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game. It's about damn time that Armored Core has a co-op.

And for those who never played an AC game, I seriously recommend you check it out. Customization for your mechs (they're called AC's in this game) has never been higher. You pick torsos, arms, heads, legs, engines, computer stuffs. . weapons range from energy blades to missiles, bazookas, shotguns. . Want a four legged mech? Go right on ahead. . hovercraft? Yep. Tank? Uh huh. Chicken walker? You betcha. The only problem is that it can get a little intimidating when you look at all the stats that are affected by different parts.

Stopped buying AC quite a while ago. Too many of those crappy "You must escort this truck" missions, which are a sure sign of laziness in the studio.

Armored Core 4, interesting. I loved Mechwarrior for the PC, it was an awesome game and series. I didn't like it for console play, it lacked a certain something. I rented the PS2 version of AC once, didn't like it, guess I was spoiled by Activision's game. I will keep a close eye on this one and check it out again for this gen to see how it plays.

Online AC intrigues me. Two people blowing each other up was always a highlight for me in the other ACs. Now there's a max of 8, and it's online so I don't have to badger my friends into it. XD
