Burnout Paradise cruises to PSN

Criterion Games parking carnage-fueled racer in Sony's online storefront this fall for $29.99.

Between Icognito's Warhawk, Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and Slant Six's upcoming SOCOM: Confrontation, full-sized digital downloads are becoming more and more common on the PlayStation Network. Today, Criterion Games said that Burnout Paradise will be added to that list of games appearing both at retail and on the PSN, albeit more than half a year after its initial brick-and-mortar run.

The PSN edition of Burnout Paradise will skid into Sony's online garage this fall for $29.99, and will incorporate all of the free updates that Criterion has released throughout the year. The most recent update, codenamed Cagney, was rolled out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 edition as a free download, and included new game modes, challenges, and cars, among other game fixes and tweaks. In September, Criterion plans to release the game-changing Bikes update, which adds motorcycles and night driving to the mix.

Released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in January, Burnout Paradise is one of the best-reviewed driving games of the year.

    well i think it'll still be a while before mgs4 comes out on psn.

    why aren't they releasing it on XBLA? is it to do with the amount of hdd's that can store it?

    Well, I'm on dial-up, and I have a 360, so I'm stuck with discs for now. I'm going to college, but I'm commuting. Oh well, no biggie. At least I can digital download some PC games for my lappy (like Half-Life 2: Episode 2, which I have yet to play, and Portal)

    For PC games, I prefer digital copies as long as the service keeps a tab on what you buy so that I can delete it and download it again if need-be. Steam kicks total ass because I can put games on my desktop or my laptop with one price. I like that, and that's my service of choice.

    As for consoles, I prefer physical. Makes it easier to loan games and borrow games.

    one of best race game ever made period and can't wait for next update, if you are lazy to go to your local store just bring it from PSN, sony made it.

    PSN has always had "full-sized" games. Warhawk and Tekken 5 are full games--sort of (Warhawk is online only; Tekken 5 has no story mode). We also have Siren: Blood Curse and a few other full-sized games and more to come. This should not have surprised any PS3 owners.

    to NandoSupes its a sign for eb and gamestop to do whats right for consumers. How many times have i bought a brand new game full price to return it a month later and be told the value is only worth half now. But then look on the shelf and the same game is only $10 cheaper when they sell it. Even now gamecube games are still a rip off considering its last gen gaming.

    I don't think Burnout is a good choice to put on the PSN because there is probably gonna be a new Burnout game further down the line and what then? You don't want two similar games on your hardrive. Warhawk was a good choice and I like having it on my system, it only takes up like 700MB. Games that you know you'll want to play for a long time I think are worthy for downloading, especialy if it takes up a lot of space.

    Sony started this a year ago with Warhawk. Burnout will be the fifth next gen game, following Warhawk, Siren, Ratchet and CLank, and Socom.

    EB and Gamestop shareholders must be shaking in their boots,why?. because if more games become full-sized digital downloads in the future, which they will eventually. how are they supposed to sell used games?, there's not going to be any!!!.


    I tell you EB and Gamestop must looking at this. why pay for 39.99 for a used game,(granted it still A DISC) when you can download it for 29.99?.they are gonna have to really cut down the prices on used games or they are going to get beat by full-sized digital downloads in the future.

    Best reviewed? Must have been a sad year for racing games. I know crap when I see it, and having paid fully price for this steaming pile, I can assure you that this game is not worth your time or money.

    I dont know about all of this yea its easy more convenient and what not... But what if you get robbed (like i did) and some @$$ hole steals your system.... Now not only do they have your system but your whole library of games in an easy to carry 10lb brick (I know the same goes for if you have the disks but its way easier to carry out with out extra little boxes)... sure you say nah that wont happen.. So did I, plus when you have a physical disk it just makes things easier in the long run what if your drive breaks (or something of that nature) at least with a disk you can take it back and go look this $hit doesn't work. Not to mention "SOME GAMES" not all can only be played on the users name that purchased the game.. ex wark hawk and soon socom im sure.. Mostly the online games but still. To each his own.. but as for me ill still be making the trip to the game store every few months or so.

    Digital Download is the best way of doing things & ofc its "Green", but theres 1 major thing microsoft & sony (MS mainly) are cashing in on.

    Hard Drives, 20gb Xbox360 HDD is worthless now a couple of demos just fills it up nevermind a game or 2. and the expansion hard drives are pretty much £1 per meg. when anyone with a technical mind can build the same thing for 1520p per meg.

    So i dont see this helping the whole digital delivery thing any time soon, as soon as we get 1TB / 2TB drives cheap with easy plug&play with the Xbox360 (i.e we can just slot a drive in, not spend £2000 for Microsofts own cased 2TB drive) then it'll work out.

    Until then, personally, im sticking with discs.

    But yeah, Digital delivery could be the best way. saves alot of money(pay for a server farm insted of printing discs), alot of piracy problems(games cant get released on pirate early if theres no discs shipped to shops), and generally just all across the board better.

    Though, would mean a hell of alot of places go out of business lol, maybe not a good idea during the credit crunch

    Huh....I don't know. There's still some comfort factor about having that physical disc in your hands that I think will never be able to replace digital downloads...at least for the foreseeable future.

    I'd rather have a full game on disc since I don't want to exhaust the space on my hard drive too quickly. I'd rather use that space for small games like Pixeljunk Monsters and Eden and other downloadable content. Last thing I want to do is buy a new hard drive and swap it. I'd rather pay for the disc.

    I like downloading small casual games (e.g., pixeljunk monsters and eden) because they are SMALL. But I'd rather have a hard copy of a large game like Burnout. Mostly because I don't want to exhaust the space on my 60 gig drive too quickly. So I'd rather buy the hard copy of a full game than pay for a new drive and swap it.

    Funny. Microsoft is the one favoring that future games will be through download, and here Sony is the first to release a next-gen game through download.

    I dig digital distribution, cuz im pretty lazy, and one of the things i hate to do is put on clothes when im nice and comfortable, and go to the mall to buy a game. Digital distribution of games would save a lot of time and money on my part and not having to get up and change discs is also a plus. I don't have a PS3 but the 360 should totally get on board with this not just with original Xbox games

    The demo was awesome, but to have the full version would be even better. The only problem is that my hard drive only has about 20gb left. Oh well, that just means buy a 200+gb hard drive.

    Ironic EA's criterions distributor?. Not at all since EA being massive could pay loads to slap an EA sticker on burnout. Or atleast more then every other company.

    umm your wrong, very very wrong, the Cagney Update for the 360 was delayed for about a month after the Ps3 update was released, the ps3 updated in early July, the 360 in early August

    Very good . If you haven't upgraded your HDD, here's another reason to do it . Burnout Paradise is racing game of the year anyway . It's better than Grid and GT5prologue, just the support alone ! Criterion are game lovers, it's ironic EA are their distributors ...

    You can buy it cheaper than that online or preowned from a game shop,plus when youve completed it you can trade it in.Once you get fed up with a downloaded game you are stuck with it.

    1st off.

    I was on gamespot forums yesterday and this was not here, what have you done to gamespot!!!!!

    Also personally I dont like burnout paradise. I hope EA does not keep re releasing games on PSN just for $$$
