Fable II Pub Games taking bets August 13

XBLA tie-in to Lionhead Studios' 360-exclusive RPG will open its doors next week.

Rather than having you stuff wolves' or giant rats' crevices with gold coins, Fable II will require players to earn money the old-fashioned way--working odd jobs and then gambling the earnings. While career advancement will have to wait for Fable II's October 21 launch, Lionhead Studios has said that players will be able to begin generating, or blowing, their virtual fortunes in advance with Fable II Pub Games, an Xbox Live Arcade tie-in.

Today, Microsoft announced that Lionhead Studios' virtual casino will open for business alongside Capcom's Bionic Commando Rearmed on August 13. Fable II Pub Games will be available for 800 Microsoft points ($10). Alternatively, participating retailers are offering a copy of the XBLA tie-in on the house as a Fable II preorder incentive.

Previously announced as individual offerings, Fable II Pub Games features three casino-style minigames--Fortune's Tower, Keystone, and Spinnerbox. Assuming gamers are able to leave the casino with a fatter purse than when they entered, winnings from these games can be transferred to the full Fable II game.

    i think i already spoiled the game in terms of riches. i have around a 1 million gold already and i sure am going to buy anything that looks good in the game. yea that glitch thing is really cheap, it takes like 10 minutes to earn 100,000 for towers

    I think it is a pretty dumb idea. I currently have over 350,000 gold. and ive tried to loose it all. i just keep getting more. I dont want to start the game with so much gold. I just want the items. Just cant get rid of that much gold....

    Personally i think that the pub games were a very good idea and if your not a risk taking person dont get the games, although if you like gambling what do you have to lose apart from some imagenary money.

    i dont know if i should waste my money to buy microsoft points to buy these games,if i have a chance of entering albion with almost no gold. i mite as well just buy the game and not be a lazy fart and actually work to get my money. i think that having thousands of dollars as soon as you come out of childhood will ruin the story, it just wont be believable to me. my opinion is that the game wont be as fun if you dont have to work for your money.

    im not saying that playing the pub games isnt work because i downloaded the trial version so i could see what they were liek and they are hard. but why dont you just guarantee your chances of getting money in the game by doing the jobs that molyeux put into the game? that way you know ur getting money and you know ur not going to lose money at the same time.

    dude they totally screwed up on the fortuen's tower with the glitch... now everyone it just gona get tons of money and crap... im not gona use it though... it made me feel like i was cheating myself out of the experience

    Easy way to make money in Keystone... Bet safely during the first 10 rolls or so. By betting safely I mean, regular, all red/black, all even/odd, etc. Don't put too many chips on the table. After the tenth roll, you are more likely to roll "trips" this is a 3 of a kind 2's, 3's, 4's or 5's. After 10 rolls, bet the max ONLY on trips! All trips PLUS the "trips" box. Keep doing this, even if you have to borrow!!! When you do hit, you will earn MORE money then what you borrowed. Continue to do this until you break even, then eventually come out on top. I currently have over $55,000 in gold! Plus this will help you unlock more games, items, concept art, level up your character, etc. Try it.

    its crazy hard to make money... the only way to make money is to do tournaments since u dont have to use ur money u just have to win... u wont get much money... just cool items and a load of debt... its like saying "im gona go to vegas to make some money"... i got over 3000 in debt but i dids a few high level tournaments and now im only 1600 in debt... i did win a few cool items like the high roller coat

    Im sorry but this is so bad its unbelievable. The idea is you get the game to make abit of gold before the main games release no? Not bloomin put me +1000 gold into debt beofre i pick the game up. Waste of my time its so fustrating and boring. Only think ive got is 600 gold and a hairdo.

    For anyone who says "It should come with the game," it does. They have announced that Pub Games will be embedded on the Fable 2 discs. You only have to purchase it if you haven't preordered and want to get a head start.

    When you get the fable Fable 2 disc you will have access to Pub Games even if you did not buy Pub Games or get the preorder code. You will have to have the disc in your Xbox for it to work.

    I believe they have said it will be the full, unlocked verson on the disc, not the trial verson.
    Go to Lionhead.com/fable2 and look around to verify.

    ya my code doesn't work ether. i tried entering it at the bottom of the market place window and after selecting the "full game - fable II pub games". maybe the servers are slow activating all the codes? i don't know but I'm really irked.

    Well i don't know if its the same in the UK, but here in australia we'll be getting the pre-order codes in about a month or more. I've called a heap of stores and thats basically all they'd tell me.

    Seems unlikely they'd be giving away (i.e. letting you win) free points. What's the catch? And will you be able to take points from the game, and return to the mini-game (and vice-versa)?

    As long as you have at least $10 on your reserve you can get the card with the code as long as they have them in stock...call your store (if you reserved it instore) and ask if they have any left (receipt from there should have phone # for place) Good Luck ^_^ ---
    The games will be redeemable on the 13th so just wait for 2 days then put your code in.

    well I pre ordered the game, and las thursday got a voicemail on my phone to go and pick up pub games. so I went to the store and got a redeem code.

    I entered it and nothing, it was invalid. I called back and got another one, same thing invalid.

    do I have to wait untll august 13th. or what.

    can anyone help me with this?

    This is bad that they're doing this. I highly doubt that these games will provide much value except to those that own the game, so this should be something that is given to anyone that purchases Fable II, and not just to those that pre-order it. I think it sucks that they're charging for this.

    To OneWingedAngel: You know why I like the ideas of the Fable Pub Games and the Creature Creator Demo for Spore?

    Because I'd rather pay a bit extra early to fatten the coffers so game companies can finish games THEN release them, than have developers run out of budget, release an unfinished game early (e.g. Oblivion) so they can use the income to patch and finish the game.

    Now, I plan on getting Fable II, but honestly, there are too many games coming out over the next few months, so I'm going to have to pass on the pub games. Though.. I didn't know some places were giving them away free for a pre-order. Kinda nice.

    I don't think someone's stupid if they get the pub games without getting the full Fable 2 game. There may be some people out there that may just like the pub games and aren't interested in an RPG. To each their own. That being said, I agree it's a better idea to go the pre-order route even if you don't intend to get Fable 2. You're paying the same price and if you decide later on that you want Fable 2, you've got $10 off or you can give your preorder to someone else and you'll still get the pub games while they get the $10 off.

    Some people are so stupid! You are NOT paying real money for fake money. You get the codes FREE when you put down $10 FOR THE GAME! So in reality, you are getting the pub games 2 months before the game releases for a chance to start earning money in the game, free. You would have to be stupid to pay the 800 points for the pub games; it makes no sense in getting the games if you are not going to get Fable II. If you are, might as well reserve and play the pub games. Once again, FREE. BTW, thanks Navyguy for clearing things up on the codes.

    YOU GET THE PUB GAMES FREE JUST FOR PRE-ORDERING FABLE 2 PEOPLE!!! You are not just paying for the Pub games. Also the amount comes off the total purchase price of Fable 2. Who wouldn't want to do this?? To me it sounds like a no brainer!!!!

    the $10 for "ebay-gold" is a valid argument, but personally the roulette-styled game looks fun, and hold em poker on arcade costs about the same & thats just with virtual money with no use what so ever.

    Good thing with these pub games is, they should be entertaining (the reason im buying) with the added perk of being able to spend the winnings in the fable world.

    people people, just pre-order the soon to be amazing game and you'll get all of these free. that way you only have to pay $50 or $70 if buying the limited edition. and dont forget, there's an easy way to get gold fast in these pub games. just share an account for a month with a friend and both get as much gold as you can!
