PS3 FFXIII demo in March; Parasite Eve, Agito PSP-bound

Sample of Square Enix RPG will come bundled with the Blu-ray edition of Advent Children in Japan; third sequel and Final Fantasy XIII spin-off headed to Sony's handheld.

TOKYO--Unlike the past two summers, Square Enix isn't holding a general-admission event. Instead, the company invited select fans to a private party held today cryptically called "DK Sigma 3713." At the ongoing event, attendees played the latest demos and saw the newest trailers from Square Enix, which also used the proceedings to make some newsworthy announcements.

First, the Shinjuku-based publisher reconfirmed that Final Fantasy XIII is planned for worldwide release sometime in 2009. It also announced that next March in Japan, a playable demo disc for the PlayStation 3 FFXIII will be bundled with the Blu-ray edition of the computer-animated film Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. The demo disc will also include new high-quality trailers for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which remains a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, a mobile game that is also now coming to the PlayStation Portable.

Square Enix also announced some new steps in its multiplatform strategy, which was highlighted last month by the E3 announcement that Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to the Xbox 360. Parasite Eve: The Third Birthday and the aforementioned Final Fantasy Agito XIII, both originally announced for mobile phones, are now officially making their way to the PSP. Neither game has a release date yet.

Square Enix also reconfirmed that its all-star game Dissidia: Final Fantasy is set for release this December in Japan on the PSP.

    Parasite Eve 2 was a brill game i do hope that they bring out parasite eve 3 to the ps3 just imagine the detail on that or better yet bring out a bundle of all three games the shower scene in PE2 was a tease pmsl

    This are very good news , and a very well chosen plataform for development, in a mobilePhone it could be nice but in a PSP you can have a lot more posibilities and you can attach the whole world market.

    whats with the development of square enix, i mean they r so slow great. games which r techincal master pieces are completed much quicker and their sequals are about to be released and square cant get the first one out. work faster dudes fans are dying of waiting

    Lucky me! PSP and 360! seems like Square will never finish working on FFXIII Versus! has anyone played Infinite Undiscovery?

    I want Dissidia so badly, Agito not so much but that should be awesome.

    I'm not going to import them from Japan unless they don't get released in the US(because I'm going to import them from the US like I did with Crisis core(I live in the UK))

    PSP isn't region encoded, so just have the game shipped. I'm getting Dissidia and Agito shipped if they don't come here.

    how you gonna play a japanese game... unless you live in japan i guess.. or have a mod chip or w/e

    anywho,
    i did some research and it seems that square enix is thinking of doing the ff7 remake but they dont want to do it unless they can get the whole original team together... so its not going to be until they are all free.... if it ever were to happen that is.

    and parasite eve was awesome. never played the 2nd

    That's annoying because I already have that film which means I have to buy it again if I want the demo disc and hi - def trailers. Oh well...

    And what's all this about biased, not one part of this article is even remotely biased about anything.

    i may just need to purchase a PSP, i only played Parasite Eve II but that was a great game. How many don't remember the famous shower scene, seriously? ;] As for the Demo, it gives me a little more incentive to purchase the Blu-ray version of AC. which i was going to anyhow, because it's a fantastic CG action fest. Sephiroth in HD *drools*

    I dont get why some people are calling the article biased, for one, I dont see the bias in it at all. second, the article jus describes what went down at an event, so, was the event biased???
    Well, i never played parasite eve b4, but from wat people are sayin i guess its worth checkin out.

    I'm interested in knowing what SquareEnix assumed among these announcements would "shock the crowd", as they stated their original intention was to do so with one of these announcements.

    As I've yet to hear anything about an FF7 remake I'll presume that it was simply them getting our hopes up, just to get let down. None of these are very shocking. Which is... disappointing.

    Parasite Eve its greatnees cuase it adds the rpg style to an resident evil feel to it which its great i hope they put parasite eve 1 n 2 on the psn

    @sweetjunks uhhh no. Psp=teh greatness. It should come out for Ps3. though. It will be fine on Psp. FF was fine on psp. So why not Parasite eve? Psp is sicktasticly better then any hand held and provides great quality gaming. Maybe you just can't see that.

    Wow, this is going to be a great year for PSP owners.
    Too bad for Xbox fans though. No demo if i read this correctly for Xbox since its coming with a blueray movie. And I REALLY doubt they will make 2 different bundles for Xbox AND PS3 owners.

    Now if they only could make Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII a PSP port as well. I'm glad they made Agito XIII for PSP because anything on Mobile by Square-Enix always stay in Japan because of their freakin awesome hi-tech phones.

    If they're making a Parasite Eve game for the PSP, I hope they either release it for the PS2 eventually, or are waiting to see how it's recieved so they can start a next gen version on PS3.

    So was that the big announcements they were talking about? VS staying on PS3, and some PSP tittles? Not to sound angry but I really don't care about the PSP tittles, Vs. stays on PS3, and PS3 also gets a japanese demo in 6 to 7 months. Wasn't this going o be the big FF7 bomb shell, although I am glad they are not though, if they take the game turn the emo button up another 6 notchs, and have everyone flying around like another crappy anime show that the 15 year olds seem to be obsessed with I will have lost hope. Can some one intellegently tell me why people love Kingdom Hearts? I played the fist two and all i saw was an odd story, a lot of disney, with a sprinkle of FF characters all turned sad and unhappy.
    As far as I see all the Xbox tittles are just timed exclusives except one I think, and all of those look much more promising then what Square Enix has turned Squaresofts old works into.

    When will everyone stop saying that M$ pays for time exclusives and that it what it is about now. Sony started the whole exclusive ordeal with the PS2. They paid companies to bring their exclusives over and it stuck until this gen when M$ is paying to have them come over to them. Why make an exclusive for a system that is 3rd in consoles sold and seems to have games not at the top of their priority list.

    Come on SquarEnix!!! I am very excited that they are at least releasing Parasite Eve on the PSP, but I was really hoping for a full blown PS3 sequel. Oh well...maybe a few years from now if enough people get into the portable game. At least they broke off of the mobile phone only strategy.

    Square is keeping most Final Fantasy games with Sony as well as their better Kingdom Hearts titles. However, Star Ocean is pretty big (though I never finished Til the End of Time) and I really would like new IP on the PS3 as well.

    Back in the day being multiplatform was difficult to manage for programmers dealing with different hardware, but now it's more about Microsoft paying for (timed) exclusivity.

    Good to hear that Agito is coming to the PSP. Now I am glad i kept my PSP and did not sell it. I can't wait to play the FF XIII demo when it releases in March (if it is a worldwide demo release).

    @ jackrocks123: Japan & North America share the same Blu-ray region: Region A. Not the same region coding as DVD.
