Penny Arcade's Rain-Slick slips to PS3

First installment in episodic adventure-RPG series set for release on PlayStation Network in late fall.

Earlier this year, Hothead Games took PC and Xbox 360 players to the brink of bleakness with Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One. Now PlayStation 3 owners will be able to spend time on the same threshold of murkiness, as the developer today announced that a PS3 edition of the game will arrive on the PlayStation Network in late fall.

Set in an alternate 1920s world of New Arcadia, the game follows Gabe and Tycho of the Startling Developments Detective Agency as they set out to discover the evil machinations behind a sudden preponderance of produce-violating automatons. Penny Arcade artist Mike Krahulik provided character designs and artwork to the development team, while writer Jerry Holkins handled the game's story and dialogue.

When it arrives on the PS3, Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode One will be priced in line with the PC and Xbox 360 editions of the game, which sell for about $20. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review.

I'm not really sure why it "sux" when a game is released for the other consoles. I thought gaming together was a good thing?

That's awesome. Congrats to the PS3 owners. Now all I need is Nintendo to release a damn HDD so the game can get into WiiWare. You're killing me here, Nintendo.

I'm stoked, I've been a PA fan for years and I was heartbroken when they said the game was gonna be on Pc and Xbox360 and not the Ps3(the only gaming platform I have). So this is good news for me I actually do plan on buying this.

@ CorruptGamerGX: I don't think that I could have said it any better than you did.

Anyway, hopefully, it doesn't take eons for the 2nd episode to arrive. That's the only problem with episodic games.

Have you played it? it's definitely not worth being the most expensive XBLA game ever. I thought it was pretty boring and worth $10 max, more like $5. I wouldn't have bought it either way though so maybe I shouldn't be commenting.

well I wasnt saying it ended up being the opposite of Daikatana anyway, I was just saying it would have been a funny gag to talk about this game for years and years, reference it in comics, only to have it never come out, i would have been amused

ps3 loves sloppy seconds?? hardly. ps3 loves its cell broadband processor, blu-ray, bluetooth, hdmi, built in wifi, free online, the 320 gig hdd i put it in it, and its shiny goodness

I am so happy to hear this. Massive PA fan, and the PSN needs some interest from developers like this to gain popularity. Woot!

  • phase4illini

    Posted Jul 23, 2008 3:26 pm GMT

Sweetness. I was hoping to hear this, seeing as I am Xbox360-less and pretty much all the reviews said the game was more satisfying on the console.

The game, more than anything, made me realize that while I think their comics are funny and I tolerate their opinions, I'm just not nearly as nerdy as they are.

  • Blue_Heeler

@stuffgamer1, They've been PS3 bashers all along, never giving it any positive light even when it was blinding them in the face. They chose their stance against the PS3 and then expect PS3 owners to buy their products? Go screw!

PA should have made this one gigantic running gag and pull a daikatana and never release it, but talk about it forever.... ????

That's good to read. I wanted to play this game but I don't have a 360 nor a PC that can run the game. There was talk that they couldn't program the game on the PS3 but I'm glad that this isn't the case and I'll be able to play it. I can wait.

I've played the demo of it and actually like it. I might get it soon for my 360. But yeah, I have to agree with -GhostMLD-, that sucks that PS3 owners have had to wait so long for it.

  • stuffgamer1

@Blue_Heeler: Do you mean there's another platform it's not on that you're mad about, or is it this "Penny Arcade hates the PS3" thing the other posts mention? I'm not terribly familiar with this fact (I've mostly read their archive books, and they seem to have warmed up to it, if you read the commentary), though I knew they had the usual complaints when it first came out. Do they really HATE the PS3, or were they just waiting for it to get better?
Either way, they pretty much said it would come to PS3 when they could get it there, and even Wii if possible (though I doubt it really is). I'm glad to see it branching out, but I'd like to know if it'll have Trophies. It definitely SHOULD, but that's no guarantee!

  • shady_825

    Posted Jul 23, 2008 12:19 pm GMT

This is great! I'm a long-time PA fan. I mean I've been around since the 90's reading their stuff. I solely own a PS3 and I think it's the best of the next-gen consoles, but Penny Arcade hates it. I didn't this game would ever end up on a Sony platform just because I know how much they hate the PS3. Man this is a MUCH bigger surprise to me than anything from E3!
