Sonic dueling Black Knight on Wii
Sega announces new fantasy adventure title that drops its emblematic hedgehog into a medieval setting.
Last year Sonic made his debut on the Nintendo Wii with Sonic and the Secret Rings, which received only middling reviews. The blue hedgehog's second non-Virtual Console appearance on the platform was Sonic & Mario at the Olympic Games, which also garnered only mild praise.
Today, Sega unannounced its spiny mascot is going for a Wii trifecta. This time around, the blue blur is starring in Sonic and the Black Knight, a new adventure from Sonic Team in Japan. As the title implies, the game will have a fantasy theme, with an "Arthurian-inspired" storyline that casts sonic as a squire aspiring to knighthood. The game is the second in the Sonic Storybook series, after Secret Rings.
According to Sega, Sonic and the Black Knight will also employ the Wii's motion-sensing remote and Nunchuk for a "unique" control scheme, but did not elaborate on gameplay. The Wii exclusive is due out in spring 2009, several months after the scheduled release of Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, BioWare's eagerly awaited role-playing game for the DS. Check out GameSpot's E3 2008 preview of the game for more details.
