Confirmed: Dead Rising Wii-bound...in Japan

[UPDATE] After Famitsu reports Capcom's zombie actioner will be ported to Nintendo's console this winter, publisher's NA arm confirms; US release "TBD."

Going into this year's E3 Media & Business Summit, many of Capcom's faithful were hoping for news on the long-speculated sequel to the 2006 Xbox 360 zombie razer Dead Rising. Instead, however, Capcom chose to devote its entire E3 press conference to the upcoming silver-screen adaptation of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, which will be penned by David Hayter (of Solid Snake voice-acting fame) and produced by former Marvel Entertainment chief creative officer Avi Arad.

With Dead Rising 2 thus far a no-show, it now appears as if E3 2008 won't be completely devoid of domestic zombie genocide. The latest issue of Japanese gaming staple Famitsu reports that the original Dead Rising is headed to Nintendo's console this winter. As scanned by Wii@Everyday and translated by GameSpot, the game appears as if it will be much the same as the Xbox 360 hit, though it will incorporate gesture-based combat, thanks to the Wii Remote's motion-sensing capabilities.

[UPDATE] Speaking with GameSpot, Capcom senior director of communications and community Chris Kramer confirmed that Dead Rising will be released for the Wii in Japan. However, when queried about a North American release, Kramer demurred, saying all other regions are "to be determined."

    i agree the wii needs some nice zombie romping, but at the same time the extra cash flow could have made a very nice sequel.

    DannyRice, I dont see how they couldn't tone down the game a lot. Dead rising may not seem like a game with amazing graphics but you should look a bit closer.. You can see every pore on your character's face and the amount of zombies at times is startling.

    i am disappointed but will probably buy it but had hoped they would use the money to make dead rising 2 as i have been waiting for a few years now.

    This is probably why I love Capcom. They don't always release games immediately for all the systems planned to get it, but when they make a port, they make a damn good port.

    I think maybe they'll notice that they don't have to tone down the graphics for Wii as much as they think, and that might convince them more to bring over Resident Evil 5. They already are considering it because RE4 Wii Edition and RE Umbrella Chronicles sold over a million units each. Keep in mind one of those was a port and one of those was an on-rails shooter.

    I'm digging this because I liked the game but didn't own a 360. Less zombies and weaker graphics obviously sucks but as long as all the other features are in the game it should still be a pretty solid title on the Wii. Especially since the Wii seriously needs some more games for a mature audience that carry some weight.

    With that said, I would rather have seen this go to the PC than the Wii or even both platforms.

    i just hope they don't abuse the wii-mote too much but over all it sounds pretty good. but also since this game is coming from a 360 to a wii i want to see what they do with the graphics.

    Yeah, except that RE4 and Okami were coming from -weaker- hardware, something the underpowered Wii could easily handle and improve upon. While porting a next-gen 360 title like Dead Rising 'backwards' to the Wii could be a challenge, even at 480p.

    Yeah, any reason why Capcom assumed everyone had 50" TVs to play this game on? I haven't completed this game yet cause the text is TOO DAMN SMALL to read and my eyes hurt trying to read it. I'll finish it when I get my LCD!

    who cares about another port to a system almost entirely used by old people and children, and especially when that game is a MA zombie game....

    WE WANT A SEQUEL ALREADY ! ... or at least some news for crying outloud. All these companies get off on keeping their consumers in the dark, and its pathetic.

    Well, itl beef up the mature audience a bit at least. I really hope that the wii will eventually make a great survival horror console. The controls are perfect for a survival horror title. Its a shame alot of these are ports...

    But the gamecube was an amazing example of how Nintendo is good with survival horror titles.

    A fatal frame (project zero) game where you hold the wii remote like a camera... silent hill where you use the remote like a torch, eerie sounds of static coming from the remote instead of the main speakers..
    Im looking forward to seeing the wii get a black finish, and some mature titles which are exclusives (but from well-known franchises).

    Resident evil remake was AMAZING on the old cube, and resident evil 4.. well, everyone knows how great that game was.
    Lets face it, Nintendo likes a bit of zombie.. and this game isn't a BAD zombie title. Its better than house of the dead, but you can argue that its totally different.
    And different is sometimes very good. Some people will love this, some will just hate it.

    To be honest why would you not release it in the West, the fans of Capcom deserve it, they sold loads of copies of RE4 and UC. Plus it's a western style gamed...it's based on a western film, and Japan censor anything with a hint of gore so it wouldn't be half the experience.

    I've played and beat this on Xbox360, the achievements are what kept it interesting without them it won't be as addicting. With third party hardcore games controlling horribly on the Wii so far. If Capcom can get the play controller to work well I might purchase it so the Wii sells more than just first party and casual sales. I'm glad that Nintendo is making an effort to get more adult oriented titles on the Wii. Don't get me wrong I do like some Wii games but I can't get over the pathetic play controll that most third party Wii games support. Nintendo, Capcom, and Dead Rising make for a potentially good team and I'm glad to see Dead Rising is still in Capcom's heart.

    Shooting things on a Wii is awesome.

    I don't see how this is possible on the wii. There were times on the first night of the game where there could be anywhere from 100 to 1000 zombies on screen at once.

    I personally really don't care about the downgrade in graphics. I refuse to buy a 360 (great console, I just hate Microsoft) but loved Dead Rising, and now I can get it... with motion controls!

    This being a Wii port, of course, brand-new motion controls are naturally in the offing -- you'll press directions on the control pad to switch between weapons instantly, use an onscreen reticule to target enemies when you're wielding a gun, and even shake the Wii-mote around to ward off zombies or swing blunt weapons. "Basically, you use the Nunchuk to move and the Wii-mote to perform actions," Nakai told Famitsu. "You can press the A button to attack with your subweapon, but you can also attack by swinging the Wii-mote. That makes the attack stronger but expands the backswing -- sort of like regular and heavy punches in a fighting game."

    Fallen angel to have a good game you need both up to date graphics and it has to have good gameplay,as you pointed out.But all but a few games on the Wii have even the gameplay.Lol Wii circus,mario party 400,...and I'm not saying motion sensing overall is a gimmick and I'm sure it will be somehow implemented with all gamesystems in the future,sure,but it is a total gimmick when you base all your games on it,totally ridiculous.
