Bungie teaser marks July 14

New episode in Halo house's long-dormant podcast hints that "something" is "going on" during the first day of next week's E3 Summit.

After Bungie bid adieu to Microsoft in the weeks following the release of its monstrous hit Halo 3, the developer was vocal in affirming that it has more than just more Halo in the cooker. However, confirmation that a new property from one of the most celebrated development houses in the industry is one thing, and exact details on what that game will entail is something entirely different.

While those details have yet to arrive, Bungie has now indicated that an unveil of its next project may be in the cards to kick off the E3 Media & Business Summit festivities next week. The Bungie podcast returned this week from an extended hiatus, and at the tail end of the broadcast, show host Brian Jarrard bantered with fellow emcee Luke Smith, teasing the impending, and unspecified, reveal.

Following Smith's closing remarks in which he lamented the plight of the listener who was "wishing there was a new game announced," Jarrard interrupted, saying, "Wasn't there something going on on July 14, or something like that?" A coy Smith responded, "Uh, yeah, around then, there's something," to which Jarrard continued, "Somehow that's sticking in my head for some reason, guess we'll have to see."

In November, Bungie studio manager Harold Ryan said that "We're actively engaged with the senior staff here on a couple of new IPs right now, but the team that can generate cool Halo games is still running full-speed as well." One of those products in the Halo universe is a new map for the franchise's flagship installment. Made available free of charge this week, the Cold Storage map draws inspiration from the Chill Out battleground from Halo: Combat Evolved and presents an abandoned research facility.

    i think that bungie should make a game based in the time of the new game halo wars but have it as a 1st ps and not an rts in a masive war big army vs a big army not like the 1st halos with 1 man vs 20 have it like 20 vs 80 or something

    If they do others Halo games, I'm open for a new story line with new characters, and if things are going good, they could include a chapter of the return of the great Master Chief...

    Dont stop Halo but sadly stop master-chief games as he had a trilogy and sadly any other games about might just ruin the entire jist of him...but still keep Halo its awsome!!!

    i think it would be pretty sweet if this was a prequel, like maybe the first levels could be u playing as a regular spartan in training, and instead of having the covenant being the enemy, have the enemy be the forerunners and see their struggle against the flood.

    I can't imagine them making anything but Halo at this point.

    As far as we can tell, it's an abandoned radio station website that is now being abused by Bungie, because there are some very convincing OTHER webpages that lead up to this one: the end of the ARG.

    Looking at the source code for the webpage, the countdown timer's target date is "08/07/2008 7:17 PM", at which point the timer will be replaced with "It is finally here!"

    But their website goes back online tomorrow, and I can't tell if it's going to be an announcement or just a site update.

    maybe if its a tactical shooter it could be the last spartans searching for master chief and fighting off the last of the covenent/maybe flood searching for master chief for revenge i dont know i just think that seems sorta logical

    Well i think what Bochap76 said was good, but i think they are coming up with a game similar to that one "halo movie" trailer they made a while back (check youtube). With the marines fighting the brutes and helping the masterchief (without actually interacting with him). Cuz when i saw that trailer i thought it would've made a good griddy futuristic battle field game.

    And to seal the deal that trailer fits the games description to a T

    I for one, would like to see a prequel to Halo. Maybe showing how Master chief was made and the early relationship between himselft and Cortana and the first encounter with the covenant. Of course without the rings being a major plot item, it wouldn't have to have Halo in the title. Maybe just call it Master Chief Chronicles or sometthing. Just a thought

    I have to say, if it isn't halo something, I'll be very disappointed. Halo was amazing, while pretty much everything else Bungie has ever made was, let's face it, lacking.

    I remember watching the special features discs bundled up in my little helmet, and as the makers were reminiscing about their old games all I could think was, "They made that crap?! Wow those guys either improved real quick or got lucky with Halo." Oni was one of the worst games I have ever played and Marathon was good for a Mac game, which isn't saying much.

    Bungie, whether it was luck or you finding your nitch, stick to Halo. It is the only thing you have ever done right.

    This is what I see as a trailer for the next halo : In a couple of years , they should make a tv commercial whitch only as a cryo sylo ( or what ever its called xxD ) oppening and right before we see whats inside, we hear cortana say : Chief?

    smurfa1: I am sorry to say but, If i remember the 3rd halo book right , chief finds 2 or 3 spartans still alive.

    (I haven't read the books in a couple of years but , im pretty sure Mars25's option could be possible, tough I really don't remember the books that whell!)

    *SPOLIER* hmm halo 3 did sort of end in a cliff hanger, i havent given up hope on the cheif yet, i dont think he could of died the way he did, hes far to 'kick ass' to go like that

    Mars25: Small problem, there are no "Older Spartan before MasterCheif [sic!]". Master Chief is a SPARTAN-II soldier, the only before SPARTAN-project is SPARTAN-I aka ORION Project, which was an atempt to create supersoldiers. Though it was scrapped due to technical issues.

    I think it will be a prequel, and you play as an older Spartan before MasterCheif comes along. sounds k00l, hopefully it will be as good as the other Halos and their mutliplayer.

    I wonder if Halo 4 will be a prequel to the first. One way or another. If it is I am sure it will also be a great game. Hopefully they will improve on what the third has faultered. And maybe, Just maybe!, they will actually create a longer and more intriguing campaign that doesn't have Cortana or a Gravemind stalling your progress with their rude interruptions.

    Maybe a new halo game where it takes place on the planet Reach.
    And your just a regular marine and only fight side by side with the Master Cheif. that would be pretty cool i think.

    Can Bungie make a totally different type of game? Or will they be "typecast" With Halo forever? If I were them I would not make another Science fiction first Person shooter. Try a Horror game, Car combat game, Fantasy RPG, a Fighting game, Hell try even making a Puzzler game that will be a Mega Hit. Something to avoid being a "One hit wonder" Can they make a good Nintendo Wii game? A good PS3 game?

    I for one believe it might be a new HALO game because I believe the planet he fell on is Onyx. A planet in the 4th HALO book. But if it is a MARATHON game then that would be fine as well. What ever BUNGIE does will be a good game.

    Wonderful comments all, i do agree with dixon that the halo franchise isnt done or else the ending of halo 3 would have been completely different than what was shown at ending of legendary. The only two possible options for FPS part of halo franchise is to cover some part of the story not yet reviled such as before halo or after the ending of halo 3 I personally find it interesting how the chief is not dead, but in cryo sleep, so obliviously halo FPS franchise isnt done. I also for one believe that Bungie could be making a remake of Marathon or a sequel. I honestly don't think making another halo FPS would be "milking" the series, they just need a compelling new storyline separate from the past 3 games but at the same time it connects with those games, which i'm sure bungie can pull off.

    Still. If there will be a new Halo game, the announcement would come from Microsoft because they own the Halo IP. So even if bungie are making a Halo game they wont be announcing it because they can't. All Halo related stuff from now on will first come from MS and then retold by bungie or any other dev thats working on Halo games.

    And frankly, a break from Halo in FPS form for the rest of this gen would be nice. Too much of one thing gets boring after a while. Even the most hardcore Halo fan should understand that.

    NOOOOOOOOOOO not a marathon remake! It would be cool to have a new Halo game but, I think it would be awesome if they made a different game that was even better than Halo. The only one who can make a game better than halo is Bungie.

    Well I guess. I mean, don't get me wrong. I do have an appreciation for old-skool. Heck, I still play the original Doom every now and then. But I guess I just cannot figure out whats so great about Marathon. Even as a old-skool game. If there is gonna be a remake, I just sure hope it's ALOT better then what it once was.
