PS3 BioShock goes to Digital Extremes

Dark Sector developer to aid 2K Marin and 2K Australia with adapting 2K Boston's deep-sea shooter for Sony's console.

Take-Two's recently formed 2K Marin studio is cranking on BioShock 2, and Ken Levine's 2K Boston at work on an unannounced title--rumored to be an X-Com remake/sequel. It's a wonder, then, that the pair have time for anything else, namely the PlayStation 3 edition of BioShock.

Take-Two has decided not to let these two go it alone, however. Today, the publisher announced a partnership with Digital Extremes to help 2K Marin and 2K Australia adapt the award-winning dystopian shooter for Sony's console. The port is set to ship in October, and was the first third-party PS3 game to officially support the console's trophy system.

Take-Two promises new features and content for the PS3 edition of BioShock. However, the publisher has been slow to trickle out how, exactly, the redux will improve upon the Xbox 360 and PC editions of the game, which were released last August.

BioShock will be Digital Extremes' first publicly announced project since wrapping development on Dark Sector. The game received generally positive reviews on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in March.

Damn. There are just too many blockbuster games coming out for the PS3 in October. This is good news, but it's hard to choose between Farcry 2, Fallout 3, Motorstorm 2 and now, BIOSHOCK!!!!

Bioshock was already perfect a year ago, that's why they it's going to be almost an exact port. With some bumped up graphics if that's possible. Everyone should experience this game no matter which system you play it on.

Lucky PS3 owners. Wish I had the extra cash to drop on a PS3 if the extra content turns out to be good, or *crosses fingers* the content comes to XBL.

LOL this is just another playground for all those people who have to defend something that they have absolutely no ties to or control over... I understand sports and defending your team.. but games.. and trying to prove that your purchase of "X" console was a much better buy then the guy bellow? I mean seriously were are all these hate comments coming from about gamers being retard fat slobs with no life and no incentive to anything else but games? Sure there may be some REALLY hardcore gamers who live in the matrix but thats 1 in a 100 most other people who play games on a regular basis most likely have "other" things to do besides playing something.

I really enjoy both the PS3 and the 360, I own a Wii but it is not to my liking.
The graphics to me are too last gen to try to play and the games don't appeal to me anymore. But with that being said, I played Bioshock on the 360 for a while and now that it is coming to the PS3 I will buy it again and actually beat it. This is a rare and unique game and it is really hard to find that when the gaming market is flooded with sequels.

I agree with Puppiemaster... i am 28, have had every console since the colecovision and have a very good career in Real Estate and a very pretty woman to boot. I am a fanboy of the industry, not a specific console. Although I do have my biases.... There are many blind and ignorant fanboys on this site that only care about bashing others with their uneducated comments...

    OK maybe I misread then...

But I looked at your comments on this page and all I saw was bashing...

Sorry, maybe I got you all wrong... But just because I hope a real successor to XCom is in production doesn't mean I'm going too hard on the Sunny D... I still love the original XCom with the graphics and everything... i just don't want a XCom FPS like they turned Fallout 3 into...

I'm 29 here, a bit younger than you. I do agree with you that you have to play every kind of game on every console to have an opinion on this. I do not own a Wii, but I did enjoy playing some games on it, a couple of my friends own one, I just don't expect any games coming out for it... so i never got one...
I also own an XBox 360... Kinda stopped playing... Nothing to expect there except sequels...

I mainly play my PS3 nowadays... Most of the games I'm looking forward to will be there... I've always been a fan of japanese games and there's just not enough on the XBox to keep me satisfied... There's a few cool ones on the Wii but most aren't even brought in the US, or so late that i forgot the game existed when I see it in stores...

I love to be able to go on the Japan PSN and download their demos & videos... I guess i prefer my PS3 nowadays, but I'd never make a complete cross on the other consoles... I remember I was one of the only kids back in the day to have both a Master System and NES, then A Genesis and a Super NES... etc... I enjoy my variety, sorry if you're like that too and I misjudged you...

peetowser I've been playing games since 1974 and I own every major console since 1978, I have a dedicated games room and spend around $400 a month on games, so I think I'm a bit of a hardcore gamer, I love Zelda, Mario, Metroid, RE and SSBB on the Wii, I especially love the Vitrual Console.

I was not just talking about the Wii I was on about all consoles, I've finished MGS4, Bioshock, Mass Effect, COD4, Orange Box, Lair, Haze, RFOM and loads more games.

To have an opinion you should buy the games you are commentsing about, I'm not deluded, I'm bigging up all consoles not 1, maybe you should read posts before commenting, I'm a gaming fan boy, there is a difference to most on here.

The gaming culture did not begin a few years ago, its been here for 4 decades so of us have been around for the whole ride.

biggy887766 you are right, the Wii is leading the pack by millions, but hardcore fanboys like to think their chosen console is winning. So bending the truth is acceptable to them.

But the real truth is there is something for everyone in this generation, you just have to spent more money to get to play everything worthwhile.

Not all gamers are children or students, some of us are middle aged and can afford everything, we are the ones that companies care about because we have the money!!!

Fan boys are stupid, companies don't care about them, they don't have the spending power and after all companies are in it for profit not posts on a gaming site saying how one console is better than another, if anything these people turn the undecided majority against the fan boys chosen console, as people don't like to be told what to do or think.

Having an uneducated opinion is not cool and a bit pathetic really, how can you like or hate a console by playing a minority of its games?

Fan boys may think they are hardcore gamers doing their chosen company a favour, but they are wrong, all they are doing is missing out on some great games and some great consoles.

Glad to see ps3 finally getting this game. If it has more content (like an additional ending) i might have to pick it up. Other than that I'll have to be content with the 360 version i've already beat.

Updates will simply be released as Downloads for the Xbox 360 for people who already own Bioshock.

Also, the new Platinum Hit version of Bioshock for the Xbox 360 will have these extra features available on the disc, so that they don't even need to be downloaded.

This has happened several times now with games that were released first on Xbox 360, and then a year later on PS3.

History has shown that the Xbox 360 versions are always either "noticably" or "significantly" better 98% of the time.

The only "extra feature" the PS3 version will have is the garbage support for sixaxis controls that nobody ever uses.

First thought: I'm not wasting my money on some port on a game that came out a year ago on 2 consoles for them to just port it over with no improvements and with less quality than the original, much like Lost Planet.

Second Thought: I Might rent it for the trophies, but a game without multi player, no matter my views on it, it is highly likely I won't buy it. Third Thought: I rarely trust ports, but there is a chance that they can actually make one good IF they stick to it(much like Oblivion). But with working on Bioshock 2 on the way, seems like a waste to spend money on a game that came out last year, unless your a bioshock crackhead, to which you should already own the game.

I played it on PC and it was great.
