Nintendo dates DS, Wii games

Wario Land, Kirby Super Star Ultra, Mystery Case Files due in September; Mario Super Sluggers leads off in August.

In March, Nintendo of America's vocal CEO Reggie Fils-Aime shifted the company's hype machine up a gear, saying "what we announce during [the E3 Media & Business Summit] is going to be fantastic." Giving breathing room to whatever reveal(s) that may be, the publisher today dated and confirmed for North America a number of previously announced Wii and DS games.

As revealed yesterday in Nintendo Europe's lineup dispatch, Wario Land is being revived after laying dormant since 2001's Wario Land 4 for the Game Boy Advance. Available for the Wii on September 29, Wario Land: Shake It! continues with the franchise's side-scrolling platformer gameplay. Players will be able follow the game title's advice and shake it to attack enemies, open loot, and create earthquakes.

Also a revival of sorts, Kirby Super Star Ultra is a DS remake of the Super Nintendo platformer of the same name, originally released in 1996. In addition to revamped visuals and cutscenes, Kirby Super Star Ultra offers a variety of new modes, including Revenge of the King, Meta Knight Ultra, and three minigame challenges that support multiplayer gaming for up to four. The game will be released alongside Wario Land on September 29.

Joining Kirby and Wario in the ninth month of the year, Big Fish Games' Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir will be released for the DS on September 8. Previously a PC staple, this latest Mystery Case Files offers the classic puzzle-solving adventure gameplay, in which players will become private dicks to sleuth out the heir to a million-dollar estate. Puzzles will require both touch-screen and microphone interaction, and, in a first for the series, the game will include a multiplayer mode.

Lastly, Nintendo has dated Mario Super Sluggers on the Wii for August 25. First shown stateside in April, Mario Super Sluggers is a sequel to 2005's Mario Superstar Baseball for the GameCube, and features the mighty, mustachioed plumber and more than 30 of his Mushroom Kingdom crew taking to the diamond for power-up fueled stickball. Expanding on Wii Sports' swing mechanic, players will also be able to take the mound and mimic pitching the ball using the Wii Remote.

    Yay! I love when Nintendo releases titles like this. And, I have to address something:

    Hah. Fat chance. The Wii has released some good, great-selling games. I don't know if you've realized it by now, but the Wii had already surpassed the Xbox 360 sales by almost ten million. And why? Because people like the Wii. People love the Wii. and while it may not be for you, 'hardcore' and 'casual' gamers alike like and love the Wii. Yeah, maybe the Wii isn't up to date with all the latest junk you can cram on to your VIDEO GAME system, but hey, it plays great friggin games, and in the end, that's all that matters to me and apparently 30 other million people that own a Wii.

    Where are you getting your information from anyway; your own opinions? Sorry to say, dear, but the statistics are on my and anyone else's side 'defending' the Wii. Statistics just don't lie. And see, if the Wii's sales were drastically dropping, there might be cause for concern. It just so happens, however, that they're increasing. Hmm... don't think Nintendo's going to lose a huge mass of fans, new and old alike, anytime soon. Nintendo may not have their "hardcore" games coming out right now, but trust me, they're not going to abandon a solid fanbase for a fanbase ('casual gamers') that may or may not stay.

    On a personal note, I've always been a hardcore Nintendo fan, and trust me, hypothetically, it's so unlikely I'll ever stray from Nintendo because they had a bad gen of systems.
    On a side note, Mario is included in many titles because people LOVE Mario. It's their (and the world's) best selling videogame franchise to date, so why not? It sells. Nintendo is a business that caters to it's fanbase, which just so happen to like Mario the best. Do you really think they'll look at Mario sales and go, "Hey, guys, we need to stop producing Mario games. We have waaay too many!" Again, fat chance.

    to odpr and mike what the heck the only thing good for the 360 is halo games and grand theft auto and the only thing going for ps3 is ratchet and clank, uncharted, metal gear solid, and call of duty. BUT Nintendo has mario galaxy, mario kart, mario strikers, metroid prime, brawl, battle revolution, paper mario,barrel blast, and mario and sonic. The DS is also doing good with the three mystery dungeon games and diamond and pearl. Also these games too:New super mario bros super mario 64 ds, yoshis island, mario kart, mario and sonic, and custom robo. And ds sales are beating psp in handheld and wii is beating ps3 and 360, even though 360 cheated by releasing their system a year earlier even though that didn't help cause they had alot of technical problems. SO HAHAHAHA

    Everytime I lose hope in the Wii I buy a game that is hardcore for it the go to sleep easily that night It's a big stretch to say that the Wii is failing, the more I think about it. Only time will tell though.

    Nintendo buried itself? Maybe you should check the latest stats before saying anything. And if the numbers are any indication, the Wii is still hard to find in some places and is selling out in record time.

    Granted, we all know that the wii does not have the graphical power of the PS3 or 360, NOR DOES IT CLAIM TO. They came into this console war with one idea only, to make a fun console and to appeal to EVERYONE. Second, according to the latest poll, Nintendo is the people's favorite game developer, who better than your own company to develop top tier games for your system. Mostly all of Nintendo developed games score above 80 on a 1 to 100 scale. And last, I agree with you that Nintendo should jump in on the online stuff, but many of the games are just as fun sitting with some friends on your couch with some wii remotes and just going at it. Take this from a guy that owns all 3 next gen systems. And I like each system for what it can offer. Nintendo for fun and innovation, PS3 for its exclusives and Blu-Ray capabilities and the 360 for Live and Hardcore gaming. Not a fanboy of either, a fanboy of all!

    that's what it should be,
    but believe me I tried most of the games that should be fun, and I have to say that the only one that I found fun, and I was pretty disappointed to find out that it doesn't have online , is Wii sport.

    ODPR, don't be so crass. What kind of games do you even like? Just because a system doesn't have games you like doesn't mean it sucks. It is a good thing that narrow minded people like you don't run the industry or we would be playing Madden or Halo in hell for eternity. By the way, look at the sales index for the DS and Wii before you take your foot out of your mouth for the "buried itself" comment.

    true. what action games you refer to, if I might ask ? most of the FPS are poorly implemented, except metroid prim.

    I am not Xbox 360 fan boy. most of the chances I was playing video games before you were born.
    and, believe me I supported the Wii in the beginning and was telling people exactly what you are saying to me now.

    but I am sorry to say, that Nintendo missed the train here ..
    no good games, this saying is also valid for Nintendo DS (which I also own) .

    let's hope next cycle, Nintendo will finally find a way to make a system that have a internet connection that "doesn't abuse the kids.."

    I don't know if you read it, but Microsoft is already developing the same remote for Xbox.. so people can play the All mighty tennis game in Xbox as well..

    Dang odpr, you talk just like an xbox fanboy. I now own all of the systems, and in my opinion (and in many other peoples opinions), the wii is probably the best. When i got my 360 I found out I had to spend all kinds of money for the sold separatly items just so the systems wouldn't break or so it can be fun. I can't even count how many times my 360 has gotton the red ring, and its only a few months old. I stoped going on live a while ago and now play online with my friends on stuff like mario kart wii or medal of honor. Sure it mentions mario a lot, but who cares, get over it and stop whining. I have heard so many geeks mention the master cheif to death more than nintendo has mentioned mario. Basicly right now with the gaming companies its like this now. You can basicly have a choice to have holograms with gamecube graphics, or you can be a button mashing with allmost perfect graphics. Most people would rather be in the action then look at a flat screen with graphics that look near real. Right now most systems but the 360 are starting to move on. At least sony has some motion controlls, while you still see fat people complaining they don't wanna move and they buy a 360. Video game systems were made for one thing, VIDEO GAMES, THATS WHY THEY'RE VIDEO GAME SYSTEMS. Who cares if they can have music and watch movies, that's why there are I-pods and Blueray players. The wii can allready connect with other people to play games online games, at least you don't have to pay 8 bucks a month or have them rip you off if you bought a gold card and instead they use your credit card like what happened to many people. The wii doesn't have the best graphics but many of their games are way more fun, like the sport games. If microsoft didn't even have any shooting games they probably wouldn't even exist right now. Nintendo announced on their site a while ago that the next system they would make would have graphics just as good as the rest of the next gen systems. By the way, next time check your grammar, I could barely read what you were saying.

    First, I own a wii.

    I (as many of the people in the gaming industry who love video games)
    thought that this time, I am going to see something new.

    I am playing video games since 1980
    And I was so happy that finally Nintendo is coming back, with new technology.

    But very soon I found out that (as usual) they miss completely .
    1) the year 2008- Nintendo never heard on the internet, (don';t tell me they have multiplayer because this friends codes method, is totally absurd)
    2) GFX (yes I know, it is not important... but com on,., there is limit even to this saying) less then the Iphone
    3)Games, none, (only tennis. ) for those of you who say that it a robust system, and doesn't brake, of course it doesn't it built on very old technology, not like 360 or ps that use new technology and by this facing new problems.

    I am SO sad to see that Nintendo didn't leverage this round to be the first company and gain the crown again. last week I bough 360, you can not compare it to the Wii, sure you can not wave the remote,.,... that is true.

    but, you can connect to the net, play with friends, play games!!!,enjoy music, HD, and not every game start with the word MArio. This round Nintendo buried itself forever.
    it lost both worlds.
    the hard core gamers, will not come back to Nintendo ever.
    and the casual gamers that Nintendo so proud of catching,
    they won't buy any new system soon....

    after all one tennis game is way enough ...

    I imagine it is time for a new DS system as the sales of the Lite have been slowing since last year and the have been rumors of the new system redesign for some time now.. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to hear the announcement of a DS Super Smash Bros. sometime soon.

    WarioLand looks like a GBA game. As WiiWare it'd be awesome but it better be a hefty game to warrant a 50 dollar price tag.

    I think that project died when they asked the director to go make SSBB for the Wii. I believe the director wants to make a Kirby Adventure for the Wii now since his opportunity for the GC is now gone =P.

    With that in mind there can be a 50-50 chance there will be a Kirby game if the director wants to make it. Also wouldn't it be kool if they made a Kirby game that was made like Super Mario 64? =D Or maybe they should just stick with side scrolling... lol who knows ^^

    The new Mario Wii baseball game got a lukewarm 7.5 overall rating in Japan. I guess that its "re-release" is similar to that of Super Mario Strikers. Just a heads-up to all interested as I had also been looking forward to the title.

    Kirby and Wario look promising. Super Star was one of the better Kirby games I played and I've been waiting a while for a Wario game that wasn't Wario Ware.

    Not too sure about the others though, I'll probably just rent Mario Super Sluggers; I prefer Mario Golf: Toadstool/Advance Tour and Mario Tennis 64.

    I would bet that they'll eventually do a SSB for the DS, it would definitely sell. Nintendo would just have to come up with a good control setup, and it probably wouldn't utilize the touchscreen at all. But that's just my opinion.

    Mario Super Sluggers: How many Mario fillers do there have to be? The whole franchise is starting to feel like Naruto or something: how many useless games do we have to have before we have another real one? Come on...

    Kirby could be sweet: I always did kind of like that little guy. Wario is one of the more annoying characters EVER, but that doesn't mean this can't be good. And Mystery Case Files... never heard of it, but I doubt it could be as good as Hotel Dusk. That game owned. '

    Now would SOMEONE PLEASE revive Metroid Dread!!!! WE WANT ANOTHER SIDE-SCROLLING METROID GAME. SERIOUSLY.
