Street Fighter IV heads home

Capcom's arcade fighting sequel confirmed for release on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3; release dates remain unspecified.

The Street Fighter series has never been terribly exclusive, appearing as it has on the TurboGrafx-16, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Dreamcast, Xbox, and most systems in between. So it comes as no surprise that Capcom's upcoming arcade game Street Fighter IV would eventually find its way to other homes.

The publisher announced today that it will bring Street Fighter IV to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Unfortunately, it did not give any indication as to when the game would arrive on those platforms. Last October, a Capcom representative told GameSpot that the brawler was "more than a year away," although the Japanese arcade edition would eventually be set for a late July debut.

Street Fighter IV is both a departure from and a return to the series' roots. The game eschews the franchise's classic 2D fighting formula in favor of stylized 3D visuals, but the roster of characters includes the entire original cast of Capcom's most successful game of all time, Street Fighter II. For more on Street Fighter IV, check out GameSpot's hands-on impressions of the arcade edition.

I don't know, stuck - because on PC, this would be nice and portable for me - but I ALWAYS played SFII on a console/controller, remember those SNES days? Live might be nice...

So it's real? It's coming on PC!! OMG it's gonna be so AWESOME! I want game creators to finally realize that they can actually sell fighting games on pc, if only Bloody Roar, Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat join this game, I would be the happiest girl in the world. Can't wait for SF IV!

Ok, for PC gamers XBOX controllers have native support in both vista and xp. If it is a games for windows title then the control scheme is the same as the XBOX version is(like GOW). If it is not games for windows you may have to configure your buttons(to how you like, and you might do that anyway) but that is no biggie. I mean the Xbox controller works for track mania without any configuring. It is called plug and play come on guys don't make us look bad by wondering if a controller will work with the game. That is the beauty of PC gaming we can use whatever we want!

I am so glad this is coming to PC, looks like I am going to have to buy a couple X360 wireless controllers to accompany my 37inch LCD!!

I agree with RaikageRyu. I like the controller with the WASD keys. I play SF III on emulator that way and it's great fun.

Seems like the first really good fighting for PC since MK4.
That was exactly 10 years ago.

Five months, Capcom. FIVE MONTHS. And after this you make Capcom Vs. SNK 3. I played Capcom Vs. SNK 2 several times at the arcade and enjoyed it. We want it... We want it. So make it already.

Oh, I almost forgot! I remember who the second Tatsunoko character in TVC is now. Some guy named Casshern.

    @ninjasam

I agree with you. The 360 controller doesn't look to cut it for fighters. The PS3 one is much better. So, I'll be getting it on PS3. Bye.

Kratos, both Melty Blood and Guilty Gear have been on PC for a while now. It works pretty well, but you'll want a gamepad or stick- the keyboard doesn't quite cut it.

I just found out the anime characters in the crossover game I mentioned earlier. Some dude named Ken Washio and... Oh, crap, I forgot the other one again.(I'm not familiar with anything from Tatsunoko but Speed Racer.) I ain't gettin' my hopes up for Speed Vs. Ryu though.

  • danwarecritic

    Posted May 29, 2008 9:10 pm PT

MORE than a year away!? I give 'em five months to finish it. They're also making a crossover fighter called Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom in Japan. Tatsunoko's some anime company. Apparently they did Speed Racer. I found out about this insane fighter at playmagazine.com. I forgot who's on Tatsunoko's side already!? And it's only been a minute or two. At least I still remember who's on Capcom's side. Ryu and Chun-Li. There's also 2-on-2 tag-team battling. I can hardly wait.

kratos, i understand completely where your coming from but you have to understand that was the game back in the day we all use to play. it was revolutionary and then they made a ps2 version that was horrible and tried to remedy that with the anniversary classics. it was about time we had this one even if its the last one. you have plenty of classics for your generation. you have the greatest first person shooter halo. i had doom. ninja gaiden is mine brother. i played that on nes but you can have another classic like bioshock. capcom makes plenty of great games, they helped in all the resident evils witch are absolutely amazing. you will have plenty of classics to tell your kids about but as of right now im telling mine about street fighter and when hes a little older im going to let him play it. street fighter is a classic that always needs to be around to say hey....... i was part of that and nomatter how old or young you are, you can always go back to the originals and say man this is pretty damn cool.

PC? and arcade fighter on a PC. thats pretty odd. Console counterparts r definite coz its the same story for watever fighting games that come to mind but the pc version sounded as a surprise . never mind every 1 deserves to enjoy a gr8 game. CAPCOM - masters of resurrecting 10 to 15 year old classics thought to b dead. these days it seems thats all capcom can do. continue on with wats already been made with 20 more sequels. not that im complaining. just saying it wudnt hurt ot see a new classic in the making. wudnt that make us proud. old guys can talk so much bout these classic games made in their time. i wanna c some more classics made in our time real time. is that too selfish. to b able to say to ma children i lived in the time of classics. there just arent that many of that caliber these days. NINJA GAIDEN BLACK is 1 that comes to mind right now coz of NG 2.ty TEAM NINJA.

Bleck, xbox360 version? I wouldn't want to use that weird tiny analog stick, or those awkwardly placed face buttons, which don't feel as smooth to press. D-pad all the way baby

You can always use a gamepad (and any other controller) on PC you know, so complaining about controls is pointless. Although it feels kinda odd to have this kind of game on PC.

I, like most gamers of old, miss those days that cashmoney714 mentioned below. How we would take our skills to a level of honor and respect as well as our loses to heart . Good days of smack talking and laughing it all off after we cooled down.
This game might not bring those days or feelings back in the end for whatever reason but it's a shame not all of us will experience it in one form or another by the lack of a Wii edition. I'm not concerned as I have all the gaming systems, but I fight for any gamer that is left out.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Those were the days.

The reason the days of friendly smack talk/competition are over is because now a days we are all seperated by broadband lines so 12 year old kids think there tough safe from mommys basement and can say what they like, it's quite pathetic.

Instead of laughing and saying "i will beat you next time" we get a load of abusive/racists remarks thrown around when some gamers get beat, its the spoiled mentality of some gamers these days, you can hear people online screaming at there parents "MOM BRING ME A SANDWICH NOW" and there mom brings it, i would have got a slap across the head for speaking to my mom like that and i wouldnt out of respect, and if these 10-18 year old kids can treat there moms with so much disrespect what chance is there of having a friendly gaming community.

Or certain gamers are just cowards and wouldnt dare speak that way to someone in person so they act tough with there high pitched voices(you know who you are) safe in the knowledge there will be no confrontation.

I would bet everything i had that all these obnoxious gamers online would be nice as pie if they were sitting right next to you while they play.

I tend to play online with people i already know in real life or some cool people i have met online, it very difficult to organize in a random match of an fps game, asking people to stick together work as a team is impossible as they all just want to wander off and finish first on the kills list, they dont care if the team wins.

'People have moved on' - somebody mentioned..

Give Capcom some respect, Street Fighter 2 is still the best selling game for them. I for one hope they continue the series. Yes, the game might need a new direction, if not now then later; but I am looking forward to seeing how this one will turn out. Good to hear about a PC version too.

This is what Capcom has been doing for the last couple of years. They got burned with putting all their exclusives on the Gamecube, and they got burned worse by putting all the money into making a line of PSP games. Pretty much any current gen game will be 360, PS3, PC.

You need look no further then Resident Evil to see that. First it was a PS1 exclusive, then the Gamecube got a lot of love with the timed exclusive RE4, along with remakes of the original three, along with a prequel. Then RE4 found it's way to the PS2, PC, and then had even had a Wii port. Now you see RE5 coming to 360 and PS3, which are the two systems that can run it, although I wouldn't be surprised to hear about a PC version when it comes closer to release.

Devil May Cry and Lost Planet are other good examples of series that have jumped to complete multiplatform. Then you have Dark Void and Bionic Commando coming to 360, PS3, and PC, and now Street Fighter IV will be the same story.

Come on, these are the first guys to start bringing out download games on XBLA and PSN, with Bionic Commando Rearmed, Talisman, Super Puzzle Fighter II Remix, 1942, Plunder, Commando 3, Rocketman, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, and Street Fighter II Remix, a number of which are also getting PC versions.

Anybody who didn't see console versions coming is a damn fool, and anybody who didn't consider a PC version has no insight. Oh and on the release date tip, Arcade version Q4 this year, console versions Q2 next year, PC version possibly same day, if not soon to follow. That's my bet. You need a later console version to have it balanced for launch, and you want to make sure it gets put into Q2 rather then Q1, because I really do think that RE5 will be coming out in Q1. But again, that's just my guess.
