Infinite Undiscovery found Sept. 2
Square Enix's next Xbox 360 game "first in a completely new lineup" for Microsoft's console.
In 2006, Square Enix senior vice president Michihiro Sasaki told the Wall Street Journal that the company would be supporting all three major players in this gaming-hardware generation so as to not give an individual platform any unfair advantage. Sasaki's words are being put into practice today. Following on Square Enix's announcement that Nintendo's DS would receive a trio of Dragon Quest remakes--with the first arriving September 16--the publisher said that Infinite Undiscovery would see a global release for Microsoft's Xbox 360 on September 2.
According to developer tri-Ace, Infinite Undiscovery promises to explore themes of discovery and impact to drive the role-playing gameplay. Following a classic role-playing storyline, Infinite Undiscovery tells the tale of a young boy who must save a world that has been enslaved by a maniacal Dreadknight and his minions in the Order of Chains.
The developer says that it has integrated elements from its Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean RPGs into Infinite Undiscovery, and that every action provokes a reaction in the gameworld, which results in an ever-changing play experience. The game also features situational battles, in which players can tune their approach to a conflict by selecting from a pool of 18 characters.
According to the publisher, Infinite Undiscovery is "the first in a completely new lineup of Square Enix titles for Xbox 360." Thus far, the only other upcoming game slated for the Xbox 360 from Square Enix is the Unreal Engine 3-powered The Last Remnant. (A PS3 version is also being developed by Square Enix.)

@Last VIP or whatever your name is. If you did actually keep up with the news you'd realize this game was gonna be 2 disc and now it's shipping on one. You must be thinking of Lost Odyssey, common mistake.
And I game on PC, lemme tell you. You rarely come across a 2 dvd game. And boy do I mean "rarely". And plus unlike console gaming, you are loading all sorts of different textures and data where as a console game has one set of data and textures hence the smaller size. look at Stranglehold, that game was 20 gigs on the pc! Without the hard boiled movie! The 360 was only 6.3 gigs. Failed argument is failed.

lol..great points everyone. I like to see intelligent opinions and debates from both sides. One thing I feel will help immensely is the storytelling style in most jrpg's. They need to almost completely get away from "text-telling". Hiring great voice actors to narrate key story moments would go along way to helping gamers staying immerse in the experience as oppose to doing an abundance of "reading"and it minimizes cut-scenes. Having the story made known to you without complete stoppage of gameplay for long periods of time is another advancement jrpg's need to make IMO.

There's a reason that Western RPG's are doing better. A lot of gamers like myself have grown up and are tired of playing as little emo boys out to save the world. Personally, I'm looking for more mature characters who are believable. I love the FF series, but sometimes the characters look so lame and fruity (Vaan). You would think that they would make a more mature looking game for the 360 considering the user base, but looking at the images it doesn't look that way. Whatever. To each his own.

I am basing my views of FFXIII on projections obviously. If it doesn't do anything new I will be disappointed because I just don't think giving JRPGs next gen graphics makes them next gen anymore. I think Square know this because they have spoken at length about making their games more appealing to western audiences with view to making 80% of their sales from outside of Japan.
Don't get me wrong I love old school JRPGs but they are a thing of the past, every other genre is moving forward but Mistwalker haven't even attempted to add anything new or interesting to their games. Sure I can see why some people would like Lost Odyssey but I think it is way way too cautious. All I'm saying really is that I hope this game and future JRPGs makes steps forward because even if the story is great I don't want to play what is essentially the same game all the time.

XanderZane just schooled everyone. It's true. Microsoft is actually focused on getting a lot of RPG's on XBOX 360.
Partnerships with Atlus, Square Enix, Tri-Ace, Mistwalker, Bioware, the list goes on. These companies and more will keep pumping out RPG's for XBOX 360. Variety is key here, and XBOX 360 is achieving it.

So what if Sakaguchi created FF, that alone doesn't bridge the gap in quality between Mistwalker and Square so I wasn't contradicting myself at all. Oh and you still haven't pointed out to me any originality in a Mistwalker title, story is subjective and the graphics were hardly mind blowing in LO.
Also please point out where in my post I mentioned Eternal Sonata didn't innovate (I said BD and LO didn't). But whatever, it had a few new ideas I'll give it that but still far from the quality of Oblivion or Mass Effect.
***********************************************************
What originality has SquareEnix put in their FF games? Besides changing them from turn-base to action base. The only thing that makes FF games original are their stories. Lost Odyssey had great graphics. You are just a blind fanboy if you can't see that. The story was very good as well. The game was a success. Blue Dragon wasn't the greatest, but it was better then Untold Legend. lol!! At least we have these RPG's to play, where is FF XIII and White Knight? lmao!! You guys have been waiting for over a year now for a decent RPG. The fact that Sakaguchi help create the Final Fantasy universe means he's capable of making quality RPG games. That's a fact. Any true FF fan would agree with me on that. Stop denying this. Sure, he's capable of making a dud of an RPG too, but so is SquareEnix. Not all their RPG's have been perfect. They've made some bad RPG's in the past as well. Bioware is on a completely different level. They can do no wrong it seems. Even though Mass Effect wasn't perfect, the meat of the game was pretty incredible. Yeah.. don't waste your time on my opinions. lol!! The truth hurts sometime, I know. The PS3 will get some decent RPG's eventually. I'm just happy the 360 is finally getting a taste of what they missed last gen.

anti-viper The 360 needs a really great, not good or solid, rpg.
************************************************************
So does the PS3. It doesn't have any good RPG really. Oblivion is old. Untold Legends sucks. Folklore is average. Did I miss any? lol!!
Enterna Sonata doesn't even have a release date yet. It was announced for the PS3 last year in the fall and it's already summer 2008. White Knight & FFXIII won't be out until 2009. The PS3 only has Valkyria Chronicles and Fallout 3 before the end of the year. The 360 has Fable 2, Fallout 3, Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Versperia, Spectral Force 3 and Two Worlds: The Temptation. That doesn't inlcude the 1/2 dozen RPG's already out for the system. ********************************************************
CorruptGamerGX @ normsta
Your point? FFVII was popular and released when RPG's were starting to catch on in North America. It's true that RPG's are popular in Japan but that didn't help Eternal Sonata and Lost Odyssey from failing miserably.
Now who's the one that knows nothing? -------------------------------------------------------------------------
You. Lost Odyssey is about to sell over a milion copies soon. It didn't fail at all. Eternal Sonata didn't sell great, but it was still a decent game. How well did Folklore and Untold Legend sell. LOL!! Even a sure fire hit like Oblivion couldn't sell 1 million copies on the PS3. What a joke.

It's being made the developers who made the Star Ocean series. Those games were incredible, so that's good enough for me. SquareEnix aren't the only developers who make great JRPG's you know. ******************************************************
Ardiendo_1 Eh? I'm sorry but 7 thumbs down for saying Mistwalker won't ever make a game as good as Final Fantasy XIII? I'm not bashing the 360 (in fact I own one) but Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are just terribly bland, unoriginal games. I want everyone who gives me a thumbs down to give me one example of originality or innovation in either of those two games. Western RPGs like Mass Effect are blowing JRPGs out of the water this gen, I hope to God Tri-Ace do something interesting with this one or else I will begin to lose hope.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, Eternal Sonata did have some originality and innovation in it's game. Lost Odyssey had some incredible graphics and a very good story. You keep forgetting that the guy who runs Mistwalker, is the guy who created Final Fantasy. So you are pretty much contradicting yourself. You're saying the creator of FF, can't make a better game then FF? lol!! I'm sure he can.

YES!! YES!! YES!! I just found out yesterday that this game has a confirmed release date. I was at Gamestop making sure my Ninja Gaiden 2 preorder was in place and was asking about Wii Fit's availability. Then I remembered I needed to pre-order Tales of Vesperia which comes out in Dec. So I did that and and thought about Infinite Undiscovery, but was sure there wasn't any SKU for it yet as it wasn't on Gamestop's website. So I asked the rep and booyaa, he was just as shocked to see it in his system as I was. Another pre-order for my XBox 360. Woot!! Can't wait to play these awesome games. ***********************************************************
deadman262 This game is destined to bomb like most 360 RPG's.
Sadly this is true. If it isn't a shooter on the 360, it doesn't do well at all in North America.
--------------------------------------------------
Someone needs to be re-educated. Viva Pinata has sold over a million copies worldwide and Lost Odyssey is on it's way to doing the same. Even Dead Rising, NFS Carbon, Madden 08, Guitar Hero 2 & 3, and Oblivion have all sold well over a million copies and are NOT SHOOTERS. So please STHU about non-shooters not selling on the 360.

the_real_VIP - Xbox used DVD's instead of CD's because that was the industry norm at the time, and it still is. GTAIV and Oblivion are both HUUGE games filled to the brim with content, perfect examples of what nex-gen should be like and guess what? Both of those games had no problems fitting on 1 DVD. Why? Because they're were no pre-rendered cutscenes everything was real-time.
Your arguement about "As time passes, so is technology" is correct, however that doesn't necessarily mean more disc space because as technology gets better, we use less pre-rendered CGI, actually decreasing disc space. Also take into consideration that as technology progresses, so will our ability with software to be able to compress files deeper, and incorporate into hardware such as the 360 is doing now.
IMO, real-time CGI is far better then pre-rendered because it provides a sense of consistency, instead of the normal Sony type of advertising where we see the pre-rendered cutscenes, then months later the realization hits the public that those weren't actual gameplay movies.

@ gamecubepad & Guts5: "1 DVD" is the most useless and unrealistic argument I've ever heard. It's like all of a sudden, from nowhere, 1 DVD is enough. As time passes, so is technology, media storage size has always increased and all of a sudden, Xbox fanboys say 1 DVD is enough. If that is the case, how come the Xbox didn't use CDs instead of DVDs if media storage size wasn't a problem? Why is the Wii using a media storage equivalent to a DVD and not the GameCube disc if Wii games have the "same" graphical quality of the previous generation? PC games are now released on 2 DVDs and unless you guys follow the news, this game is confirmed to be on 4 DVDs.

KingTuttle, exclusives are cheaper and faster to produce. Also, gameplay and engine features can be tuned to the strength of the machine to (perhaps) create a better experience. Of course, I'd think any of those other additional costs of going multi-platform would be more than offset by the additional sales that the other platform would bring. Maybe SE is getting direct funding from the console makers for their exlusive games, helping to offset their initial investment even more.

Why does any developer do exclusives anymore? Loyalty or not if I was a development house owner I would focus on 2 things: Making awesome games and getting those said games to as MANY people as possible in order to fund my staff, my wallet, and the next awesome game.

"Tri-Ace needs to get this game out the door so they can focus all their attention on Star Ocean 4."
More specifically, they need to get IU out and it needs to turn decent numbers so Square will finally have the guts to officially announce the multiplatform status of Star Ocean 4, instead of shrouding it in "mystery" (ie keeping alive the last shred of evidence to give those living in denial some hope to cling to).

I got a 360 for RPG, mostly WRPG since 360 is the best for that. But its nice to see that JRPG are making a strong push aswell. I'll probably wont get it with Fallout 3, Fable 2 and Sacred 2 being my RPG for late 2008 but i'll have something to save up for 2009.

Screw this just put real FF on 360 if your not being biased in the "console wars".
Who cares anyway 360 has the creater of FF making games exclusively and they're much better than any FF game I've played since he left so that (if Japanese fans weren't racist) would but 360 in front on JRPG's.

Eternal sonata, Blue dragon, lost odyssey, and now infinite undiscovery - excellent news that TriAce have done something for the 360, Grandia 3 was excellent. It's a great diversion from FPS plague that is happening on xbox. I like a good FPS, but do we really need that many?
Lets face it, we won't see FFXIII until late 2009 (if we're lucky) so the more new RPG IP's we can get, the better!
