Three new DS colours, Cooking Guide for Europe

Red, turquoise, and green DSs, culinary tool coming to the continent in June.

The Nintendo DS Lite has been seen in a plethora of colours overseas, with variants including crystal white, ice blue, enamel navy, noble pink, jet black, metallic rose, gloss silver, and crimson/black in Japan. The US also boasts a decent range of colours including polar white, coral pink, onyx, crimson/black, cobalt/black, and limited-edition models such as gold, metallic rose, and the Legend of Zelda "Triforce DS."

Meanwhile, Europeans have merely had a few stock-standard shades to date, including crystal white, smart black, and platinum colours. Today, Nintendo Europe announced three new colours: red, turquoise, and green, in addition to a new game, Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What to Eat?

According to a statement from the Mario Factory, Cooking Guide "goes beyond the capabilities of printed cookbooks and literally talks budding chefs step-by-step through all the processes involved in cooking a tasty dish," and features close to 250 international dishes.

For owners who fear slopping Bolognese sauce on their DSs, Cooking Guide will respond to voice commands, and will repeat steps as many times as required for slower cooks. The game also includes a glossary with "in-depth illustrated details on everything from chopping techniques to explaining cooking terminology," as well as a shopping list and egg timer.

The new DS colours will be available for £99 ($194) on June 13, and Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What To Eat? will be heating up kitchens from June 20, priced at £30 ($59).

nice. hopefully cooking guide won't have a boring personality to it or a brain age type personality (not that its a bad thing, but i like the personality brought upon in the cooking mama games)

New colours sounds cool, would be nice to get some franchise specific ones though like FF special editions or Zelda, or even a red Mario DS.

Haha... I think the Cooking Guide is a pretty neat concept. I don't follow these things, so I don't know if something like this has been offered before.

My stepson would probably love this. He likes to cook AND he likes his games, so this would be a great fit! Plus, if he makes something good, I can benefit too!

these new colours, whilst all well and good, i very much prefer that they give us the colours you can get in the US or japan.

I had to import my crimson/black from the US.

What about the newly designed DS that is supposed to be announced this year? I figured it would be revealed this spring or summer so that they would be on the shelves by the fall. As for the colors? I like them, it gives variety. I still love my black one though.

Yeah but think about it, if Ninty is just coming out with new colors, what're the chances the rumors about the newly-designed DS are true?

Oh wow that Cooking Guide sounds kinda neat actually. Thanks to the wonderful capabilities of region-free gaming on the DS, I maay consider picking that one up. Curious though if it has the ability to download new recipes, because if it does it could be a little handy tool for most. I wouldn't pay 59 dollars for it though. If I could get it for 30 or less I'll consider it.

Oh that green one looks SO GOOD! I wish they were coming out here in the states. Why can't every region have all the different colors?

Nintendo: Quit this "region-specific colors" BS. Just release all the colors everywhere. I want a sweet silver DS lite, but that's right, I can't get one because I don't live in Japan.

i don't understand why nintendo does this. make certain colours for certain regions. and why does north america get the ugly two coloured version? release the ALL red and ALL blue version here!

cooking guide is exactly the type of thing that i wanted. a compact cook book without the page flipping.

If only Nintendo can finally realize that every region should be treated EQUALLY and that every color should be available in EVERY region

    THREE?!
US only got a non-puppified version of what we had before

  • lanista

    Posted May 21, 2008 12:18 pm PT

    Europe also had pink.

But yeah, now seeing the lists for Japan/US, I think Europe once again comes off poorly from a Japanese company

Then people complain they need to merger to boost sales?

    Wasted opportunities

So tired that soon the hunk-tassle-dog-king will see that all he has is time and well planned buildings. Are we really to think that this light will shine on those who covet all the little pretty balls that roll back and forth around the orange encrusted dome that so many built with anger and will oiled currency!! i think not my fine spiked tree!! Lets all think that lizards lie in quite fun, all to reap the rewards of sound choices and sloppy satire.

Wow those are really sharp colors.I want one...too bad my sister has a pink DS and I just play through the games she gets...that way,she could use my 360 and I use her DSBut seriously,if my sister didn't have a DS I would go and buy a DS right now cuz it's cheap AND those colors r convincing, not to mention the games are pretty good.Especially Zelda and Pokemon Diamond.I didn't play Assassin's Creed DS yet,all I know is that the 360 and PS3 version is amazing.GH for DS is going to kill, watch the trailer.Personally,I like the DS more than the Wii.
