Sony lays out '08, early '09 lineup

Publisher confirms stateside delays for Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet, dates Resistance 2, PS3 Buzz! for fall.
By Tom Magrino, GameSpot

At Sony's EU PlayStation Day in London early last week, the publisher dropped a handful of heartening details, as well as a few downers for PlayStation 3 owners. Namely, the publisher said that two of its most anticipated exclusive titles, Guerrilla's Killzone 2 and Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet, had been bumped from their projected ship dates--in Europe, at least--to February 2009 and October 2008, respectively.

With Sony throwing a stateside Gamers' Day event in Southern California today, the publisher confirmed that Guerrilla's long-awaited first-person shooter and Media Molecule's sandbox playground have indeed been furloughed to launch in proximity to their European counterparts.

In addition to confirming the delays, Sony also laid out its lineup for the rest of 2008 and into early 2009. Of primary note, the publisher said Insomniac Games' Resistance 2 will arrive on the PS3 this fall. The publisher stressed the game's large-scale 60-player online multiplayer component, as well as the MyResistance.net community portal.

PS3 gamers looking for a little less mayhem will also be interested to know Buzz! Quiz TV, featuring more than 5,000 questions in five categories, will also land on Sony's flagship console this fall. A slimmed-down PSP version of the game, Buzz! Master Quiz, will be available in the same time frame, and include 3,000 questions spanning a variety of topics.

In addition to its retail offerings, Sony also gave PS3 owners a heads-up on what will arrive on the PlayStation Network this summer. Before summer's end, the publisher expects Sony Liverpool's Wipeout HD, 8bit Games' Elefunk, Q-Games' PixelJunk Eden, and Sony Japan's episodic series Siren: Blood Curse.

A full lineup of upcoming titles published by Sony is listed below.
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2--PSP--June 3
Secret Agent Clank--PSP--June 17
Wipeout HD--PSN--Summer 2008
Elefunk--PSN--Summer 2008
PixelJunk Eden--PSN--Summer 2008
Siren: Blood Curse--PSN--Summer 2008
SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation--PS3--September 16
LittleBigPlanet--PS3--October 2008
NBA 09--PS3, PSP, PS2--Fall 2008
BUZZ! Quiz TV--PS3--Fall 2008
BUZZ! Master Quiz--PSP--Fall 2008
MotorStorm Pacific Rift--PS3--Fall 2008
Resistance 2--PS3--Fall 2008
Killzone 2--PS3--February 2009

I guess Haze has to bee moved off the list of great AAA titles. In all honesty gamers really need to come togethere and stop console wars. The war needs to be against developers who keeep putting out half-donkey butt games. Haze probably could have been a great game if developers would have took the time to tweak some things here and there. I've seen too many flaws, glitches and performance issues in too many games. You wouldn't accept this out of most of your products. I can't name one other product like games where the consumer accepts so many flaws in the product. We shouldn't reward these people with our hard earned money if they are going to continue to put out flawed product. I don't care how good it looks. You wouldn't buy a new Mustang convertible that ran fast but leaked fuel. Why would you buy a game that looks good but freezes and has crazy AI?

I haven't picked up Haze yet but I've got a copy waiting for me. I'm curious to play it myself and see what's going on. How can it get an almost perfect score from Famitsu, a game publication I still respect and less than stellar reviews on IGN and Gamespot, publications who have long lost my respect? Once I'm done I'll post my own review, so if anyone wants to get the perspective from a Wii/360/PS3 owner who loves his games and hasn't been paid by anyone for his opinion, keep an eye out over the next few days.

"Guess i'll wait another year to get a PS3 and some good games." me too haze got a 6.0 so that leaves 2 fps for the ps3 (that are exclusive) so as a big console fps fan I'll wait for early 09-mid 09 to get one

ParisSun said "I'm sure you don't even believe that there will be 200 exclusives for the PS3 between now and next year. "
Well, some of these are out already, but still there are about 157 on this list, and I know I've seen longer. Still, this is just the exclusives and I still have no time to play the games I have.

Why do people always list all these "great" games coming out for their system when they know they can't afford to buy all of them? Why list 6 to 8 games? Are you telling me you that some of you are spending up to $400 a year on games! Instead of doing that, cut your gaming budget in half and save/invest the rest. See how much you will have earned by the time you garduate from college. You will thank me for this later.

As is I already have a stack of great PS3 games I have no time to play (haven't finished orange box, burnout or even started GTA4), and I already have MGS4 pre-ordered. I wasn't expecting Killzone till late this year, early next so this didn't effect me at all. Same with LPB, I thought it was still just a "Fall 08" release, and it still is. There's something close to 200 exclusives coming to the PS3 between this year and early next. Who has time for all these?

@ Hvac0120 and charizard1605 - Yep, both of you guys are right. This is looking more and more like the turning point for Sony and the PS3. There will be more than enough games to keep me busy. Finding the time to play all the ones I want to is going to be the challenge...

this coming year appears to b really good for the PS3. Some titles that are sure to come within the next 12-14 months:

Metal Gear Solid 4
Killzone 2
Motorstorm Pacific
Rsistance 2
SOCOM: Confrontation
LittleBigPlanet
Final Fantasy XIII (confirmed 2 b in production, exact date unknown)
God of War 3 (ditto)

coupled with some already great games like Grand Theft Auto IV, Devil May Cry IV, Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction, Burnout Paradise and the original Resistance game, it appears that in the long run, the PS3 might just emerge to be the console with the best games on it

Metal Gear - Spring 08
Resistance - Fall 08
Killzone - Spring 09

- sounds like a good balance of high profile titles. Also sounds like a good line-up to look forward to. These are also added to the multiplatform games that will be coming out this year and early into next.

And people are aying the 360 line up was looking light ...
it's a good thing there are LOADS of third party games coming to save the day !
just goes to show how pointless the format war is with so few exclusives these days .... doesn't stop the fanboys though does it !!!

I can't say that the list is original or really that good unless they are still holding on a few unannounced games.

I've still got every major system released since 1978 and I'm unimpressed with the line up, MGS4 will sell millions, but what about us that dont like stealth games.

Lets hope some great games from third party developers are coming soon

Thank you nerdwithagun, man someone with some freaking common sense! Why is it that everyone has to trash talk other systems when they don't even own it. I've personally owned all the gaming consoles, portables included from the past 10 15 years and I've enjoyed all of them. Right now, all I own is a 360 but I also want a PS3 as well. Everyone and anyone who is a Sony fanboy or MS fanboy, both systems are fantastic, deal with it idiots. If I could afford both systems, I wouldn't hesitate ever to purchase both. Games like Gears 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Halo wars is friggin awesome and amazing but so is LBP, Killzone 2 and so on. So every fanboy on this site, both Sony and MS, shut the hell up and play your system of choice. :]

I've been reading comments to news such as this for years, and it still amazes me the amount of retarded fanboys on this planet. Anyone who is a true "gamer" will own every system available since every platform has exclusives titles worthy of purchasing at some point in their life span. Without multiple platforms Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo would all release stale carbon copy games, with little or no innovation, showing only interest in pure profit. If anyone wants to truly enjoy gaming and innovation, then every system will have be to owned at some point. If you say you can't afford to buy every console out there, stop buying some of the crap that comes out on these systems and save your money to truly enjoy all that gaming has to offer. Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, etc. all offer amazing games the others don't, so to sit here and nitpick who is better is redundant and pointless. F'n stupid fanboys...
