GTAIV album announced

DJ Green Lantern to release 16-track compilation of tunes from and inspired by the game, coming May 20.
By Emma Boyes, GameSpot UK
Posted May 16, 2008 4:18 am PT

Of the many neat little touches to Rockstar's action adventure Grand Theft Auto IV, the mind-boggling array of different radio stations to choose from while driving around Liberty City proved to be a big favourite with fans.

The stations have some 200 songs on rotation, spanning a wide range of genres, and include The Beat 102.7 (hip hop), Electrochoc (dance/electronica), Jazz Nation Radio 108.5 (jazz), and Vladivostok FM (Eastern European).

DJ Green Lantern, also known as The Evil Genius, who presents The Beat radio station, has announced a soundtrack album that includes eight tracks pulled from his in-game setlist, and eight more exclusive songs inspired by GTAIV. It will be different from The Music Of Grand Theft Auto IV which was included with the Special Edition.

The album--Liberty City Invasion: Music From and Inspired by Grand Theft Auto IV--will span hip-hop, reggae, and R&B, with featured performers including Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, and Fabolous. It will be available to download from "all major digital retailers" on May 20, with a retail release is planned soon after.

The full tracklisting is as follows:

Styles P--"What's the Problem"
Busta Rhymes--"Where's My Money"
Wyclef, Uncle Murda & Mavado--"Informer"
Joell Ortiz & Dante Hawkins--"Alone"
Jim Jones & Juelz Santana--"Bustin' Shots"
Maino--"Get Away Driver"
Uncle Murda--"Anybody Can Get It"
Fabolous & Fat Joe--"I'm So Fly"
Qadir--"Nickname"
38 Special, Fever & Dwayne--"Streets Raised Me"
Clipse feat. Re-Up Gang--"9mm"
Heltah Skeltah feat. Buckshot--"Can't Trust Em"
Red Cafe--"Stick'm"
Immortal Technique--"Parole"
Tru Life--"Wet Em Up"
Johnny Polygon--"Price On Your Head"

DJ Green Latern is crazy I'm not buying the album but still I like the fact he worked with Rockstar on this project. "n***a fear what they don't understand hate what they can't conquer guess its just a theory of man became a monster, atop of the world never fallin "(NAS)

THAT ALL I'M GOING TO SAY ABOUT PEOPLE THAT HATE RAP/HIP-HOP

Hip-hop is not terribly representative of GTA4. I'm disappointed that the focus of this album is as narrow as it is. I love that the game itself had such a broad, low-key, modest palette of tunes across the radio stations, but to market a single genre using GTA as its umbrella is wasteful and narrowminded.

Note, however, that I don't care what genre it is. I would be just as disappointed if this album were all Vladivostok radio-type songs, too.

To all you anti-rap fans, It's cool. I understand that you don't like rap music or r&b. I also understand that it's easy to get music for free.

But stop the crying please. Redirect that energy to contact your favorite rock musician/dj and tell him "i hate rap and R&B...boo hoo...Would you please make us a rock and easy listening version of music based on GTA IV...boo hoo..."

Then you could be happy as well. Although I am a huge Hip-hop head, I also like other forms of music...including rock. So I won't bash your favorite genre...i won't complain either. BTW...I won't be buying this either. Thanks for allowing me to rant!

I love GTA4 and thats really something, as I didnt like SA or the original GTA3 very much at all.

One thing I dont like is the soundtrack, I like metal and the closest I get to it in the game is a lame hardcore channel.

So no thanks.

you can turn off the radio (on the 360, just hold down left or right on the d-pad until it is off)

instead of releasing the album they need to give us the ability to turn the radio off or to be able to do custom soundtracks (like san andreas) i bet the reason they pulled it was PS3 related. i am not being a fanboy or starting a fight but most subtractions from multi-console games have been due to something bizarre with the PS3. Also the hip hop station sucks id much rather see some of the other stations featured instead.

I would be interested in an album that has all of the radio talkback and satirical ads, because most of it is hilarious. Otherwise, I will just go buy music that I like instead of this.

This is good news. "The Invasion" radio show on The Beat is easily one of my most favorite parts on the GTA4 radio. I hope the album will be an extended version of the radio show and not just a bunch of tracks compiled onto a disc.

I have the CD that came with the Special Edition, and I felt it was a bit hastily thrown together. Maybe this one will be better. Ignore all the other ignoramuses that must downplay everything they see--they're not sapient.

Bleh this soundtrack was terrible..no enough to hold my interest. In fact, I turn my radio off when I play. Vice City had the best soundtrack though...

The radio is the worse part of the game. Best radio is still at Vice City. In fact imo VC is still the best GTA. I got the special edition and ive heard the cd a few times, its ok, but when i'm on my Comet on the highway, the music just doest give that extra edge.

*Expects a wall full of anti-hip hop fan boys screaming about how much is sucks, and about how much their bias and ignorant (see: lack of information) is factual*

Nightrain76 ""Hey Rockstar - Everyone thinks the music on the radio stations SUCK. Why did you guys skimp on the good music???? Its like the songs on this game were picked from bargain bin it seems. One of the best selling games and you guys skimp on the good music. Where is the Guns N Roses, STP, Michael Jackson, Motley Crue???? The soundtrack is horrible.""

Dude, you just named off a bunch of 90's bands..which were in GTA:SA because thats when the story took place... GNR and Michael Jackson doesn't fit in a modern day soundtrack. Sounds like you and everyone else can't let GTA:SA go!!

The album looks like it's gonna blow. Except for that Immortal Technique track, I'd love to hear that...weird that it's even on this mixtape with the rest of that lackluster wack crowd.

Like demoralizer said the music on GTA IV is not as good as it's past GTA's music. Even midnight racing had a better soundtrack.

@NND1
We are open to Rap. But you gotta unerstand something: I grew up in a working-class predominantly Black envoirnment. Hip Hop WAS my culture. I'm 32 years old and I can honestly say "Hip Hop has had FAR BETTER DAYS". For roughly a decade now, Hip Hop has been in steady decline. Persona now matters MORE than talent, relevance or creativity. And these 'personas' are often just ripped off from previous artists (you know: Tupac, Biggie). Furthermore, 'super-producers' get crap loads of money just to make every artist sound the same. Artists are now a cross between a stereotype and walking advertisement for an egocentric super-producer. I'm NOT, repeat NOT, going to applaud that ****!

I liked the San Andreas soundtrack it was diverse and high quality. But the GTAIV list of songs looks less diverse and of low quality. It's virtually ALL Hip Hop and low end rappers at that.
