Pitfall returns on Wii

Activision's original icon suits up for Big Adventure on Nintendo's console; Edge of Reality tapped to develop.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted May 12, 2008 1:14 pm PT

Pitfall Harry has been out of commission since 2004's The Lost Expedition, but the adventure game icon is coming out of seclusion for an exclusive outing on Nintendo's Wii.

Pitfall: The Big Adventure will see players explore more than 60 levels spanning an assortment of jungles, caves, and snowbound mountains. Along the way, gamers will deal with traps, treasures, reptiles, and a variety of puzzles using the Wii Remote's motion-sensing capabilities.

Development duties for Pitfall: The Big Adventure are being assumed by Edge of Reality, the same outfit behind Pitfall: The Lost Expedition. The studio also worked on adaptations of Over the Hedge and Shark Tale, and is currently working on The Incredible Hulk and Cipher Complex.

Pitfall: The Big Adventure is set for release this fall.

Anyone who has played Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness doesn't think, but in fact KNOWS that boobs aren't everything where ugly game play shows up.

@raahsnavj
Without 'Pitfall' there wouldn't BE a Tomb Raider.

Probably be a Prince of Persia/Tomb Raider clone - if done well it could be cool - time will tell though.

Looks like a port of The Lost Expedition, which is lame as hell. That game's, what, five years old now?

I'd love to be wrong, though, The Lost Expedition was awesome and a sequel would be great.

They should have 2600 games on the VC selling for $1. That would be cool.

Anyone ever play Pitfall 2 on Atari 2600? For that console, this game was revolutionary.

I generally think of Mario as the original platformer, though I guess props should really go to Pitfall.

Well, that explains why everyone says that Nintendo's third party support sucks.

I lived through the Atari 2600 age, so all i can say is that Pitfall is a real classic, and it's welcome any day.

Even when i love -when it was not painfully dificult to play- Pitfall, i'm not so shure of a pitfall with motion sensing controls and even 3D graphics at all... i do't know... some games don't need a sequel just cause is too hard to live in their name. Chrono Trigger -forget that Chrono cross crap... well is an example of failed sequel actually- and Pitfall are perfect examples.

"Why a Wii exclusive Pitfall? Can't they treat Sony Pitfall fans fairly and also put it on Ps2, PSP, or PS3 as well. Even XBOX Pitfall fans would like this game on the 360. So would PC Pitfall fans. Pitfall the lost expedition was on Gamecube, PS2, XBOX, and PC." - nintendoboy16

For several reasons: The Wii has the biggest install base, it happens to be the cheapest console to develop for, and it actually does take a bit more work than a few clicks to port it to other platforms.

The minute they tried to do something more than Pitfall II, the series' worth has plummeted. Can't you guys stop pointing a franchise at a generation that won't appreciate its roots?

Seriously...the game was at its best when it was just run, jump, collect...

Wiiware would have kicked ass for something like this, unless it gets amazing reviews, I'll probably pass on this.
