MLB Power Pros 2008 on deck

Take-Two brings back Konami's big-headed baseball series for a double-header on the Wii and PS2 this July; DS version bats clean up in the fall.

Steroid abuse in Major League Baseball is feared to be widespread by many, but if one were to judge by Take-Two and Konami's MLB Power Pros series (Powerful Pro Yakyuu in its native Japan), every last player in the league is an unnaturally proportioned and inflated freak of nature.

After introducing the series to US gamers last year, the two publishers are teaming up again to release MLB Power Pros 2008 on the PlayStation 2, Wii, and Nintendo DS. The game will feature 10 different modes, including multiple career modes. Players will be able to assume the role of a Double-A minor leaguer balancing professional aspirations with a personal life, follow a created pro through a 20-year career, or jump into the cleats of an existing player and swing for the fences.

MLB Power Pros will arrive on the PS2 and Wii in July, with the DS version following in the fall.

I don't have the original power pros game but i just might get this this for the ds. It looks like a combination between the mario baseball games (which lose some of the baseball but replace it with a different kind of fun) and the 2k baseball games (which are too demanding) keeping only the good stuff and getting rid of the bad stuff.

I really loved Power Pros first edition and can't wait to buy the next one! However it does need to be supported by the Wii without me having to change out my component cables.

Unless the stat-checking becomes more accurate (Jim Thome a singles hitter? John Maine is "gutless") this game is a rental for me. Gotta improve the problem areas a lot in order to break the hold MLB: The Show series has on many gamers in the market for a baseball game.

I will only get this if it supports 480p and 16:9 like ALL Wii games should.

the first one was ok. The story and franchise modes were fun, but I found the actual baseball gameplay wasn't quite up to par. Here's hoping to a great year for the series!

I'm really surprised that PawaPuro is coming back for a second go. Since the NPB PawaPuro games have sucked so hard since PawaPuro 12, maybe this will be a nice change for the Diamond Head team.

Concerning the DS version, I think it needs to have its own Success Mode and definitely Wi-Fi. I would love to see a PawaPuro-Kun game as good as last year's PPK 10. Also, PawaPuro-Kun on the DS would deliver some much-needed sports action to the DS, where you have to import PawaPuro-Kun if you want anything other than sub-standard Madden every year.

NinjaFoot - Isn't that what EA expects it's customers to do every year? toadster101 - Does the PS2 not have the largest installed user base still? So is it not sensible to make games for those users?

Stop making games for the PS2, dammit! It was a good system for it's time, but it's time to move on.

I am currently enjoying the heck out of this years version on the ps2, but I cant see buying this type of game every year unless there are some really cool features added on. Here's to hoping!

This game rocks so hard! Looks kiddy... but plays reaiistic and great!
If I have one gripe... it's that we need ONLINE Roster Updates! Online play would rule too.... but my biggest wish is for DL content to keep rosters realistic. The last games roster was way to outdated and was missing players like R.Braun.

I really hope this game is good but having to wait till fall? Not the best timing for a seasonal game.

This game tops the charts every year in Japan, but the transition to America is missing something....ONLINE!
Take Two, use that GTA IV money to buy some servers so we can play against each other! Konami does it, you can too. Announce online and I will pre-order and hype this game every day until it comes out.

I'd pay for a 360 HD port with online play on Live. I already have 07 on PS2. You can go next gen without having to rehaul the graphics just put it in 720P and price it at 39.99 or so. Come on Konami!

No, the Show is. This is a reasonably close second, though.

Don't let the pictures fool you. This game is addictive. Much deeper and better than it looks too. Real teams, real player names/stats, real stadiums...

This was a popular title as far as sales were concerned, where gamespot employee's thought it discontinued. In actuality they took advantage of Wii Baseball by producing something for everybody. Whether people liked it or not does not matter, people bought it due to lack of options. I loved the game, didn't play it much because of other options. Recently downloaded MLB the show for ps3 and now will probably play it. In the end I won't get power pros because they simply waited to long. I think they need to release at the start of the season.

I own and play MLB Power Pros on a regular basis. It is THE best baseball game out right now. I thought they were going to discontinue the first one (according to a Gamestop employee/read blog) and now that 2008 is coming out I'll definetely get it....
