EA reiterates, details E3 appearance

Days after its archrivals Activision and Vivendi bow out, the third-party megapublisher reconfirms it will be attending the Los Angeles summit.

This week began with the surprise revelation that Activision and Vivendi Games were both dropping out of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the top US game-industry trade organization. The two companies, which are set to form the world's biggest third-party game publisher in a $18.9 billion union later this year, also said they were declining to attend this year's E3 Media & Business Summit--traditionally the top annual US game-industry event.

In the wake of Activision and Vivendi's announcement, several other publishers, such as NCsoft and Foundation 9, also made public their intention to skip E3. However, today, one of the industry's heaviest of heavyweights, Electronic Arts, reiterated its intention to attend the summit, which will be held from July 15-17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The publisher had previously been listed as exhibiting at the event.

Besides underlining its E3 attendance, EA also announced its press briefing for the event. It will be held on Monday, July 14--two days before the show officially begins--at LA's historic Orpheum Theater. The time slot is unusually early, as past years have seen third-party publishers wait until after the Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony events to show their wares. In 2007, all of the "Big Three" conferences were held the Tuesday and Wednesday before E3.

Since E3 is now invite only, I think EA shouldn't go.

This past year EA has really proved it can do more than licensed and franchised annual games. This coming year should be even better Dead Space is the game I have my eye on. I'm sure EA will not disappoint. 2008 is the year I've finally become pro-EA.

they may have something planned that they want to show off at their own conference that they will be starting since they have so much money to throw around.....or maybe they want the public to be allowed back into E3

Activiv once again showing they don't care about gamers, only profit. E3 was an event that wasn't just for business but fans as well, with us all getting a chance to get excited about the games coming up in the future. Well done EA for staying with it, hopefully more companys will follow suit especially the hardware manufacturers.

If there is no E3 what do gamers have to look forward to for their announcements and previews? Leipzig doesn't cut, and Tokyo is too asia focused, heres hope E3 gets better from here.

I wish EA would just **** off. I say good on Take Two for their refusal of EAs offer, and congrats on the $500 million. EA don't even make any great games any more. They merely earn millions off the same old rehashes, year after year. Leave gaming to the experts EA.

E3 is a non-event these days. EA is just trying to steal the show. Guess it could be considered another form of monoply. Frankly, if EA is going, more publishers should pull out.

I've got to say these publishers are getting a bit cocky now. Acti-bliz is starting to think they are too good for the major conferences and EA thinks it can show-up the console makers. Well both of them are scum in my book. They should merge together and then the government would shut them down for monopolizing =)

Let me guess, news on the next Madden? Plans of another takeover? Didn't they have a deal with someone to make a comic mmog, or was that the one that got cut? I thought it was Sega's game that hit the block..... As you can see, EA at E3 doesn't really impress too many people nowadays.

The ESA sure murdered E3. I was at the last real E3 and it was a pretty amazing event. I'll never figure out why they felt it necessary to change the format.
