Spore Creature Creator germinates June 17

Gamers to showcase intelligent (or otherwise) design with demo and retail versions; Frankenstein fauna will be importable into full version of Spore.

Spore

Check out Spore's creature creator tools.

Will Wright's Spore won't be spotted in stores until September, but those eager to tinker with the fabric of life can start mucking about with Mother Nature much earlier. Electronic Arts today announced that the Spore Creature Creator will be available worldwide beginning June 17.

The full retail version of the Creature Creator will be sold only at retailers in North America and at most European territories, for $9.99 and €9.99 respectively. However, a free downloadable demo will be made available from the game's official Web site on the same day. The demo includes about 25 percent of the full version's various creature parts. Both versions will let players share their creations with others and will include a way to seamlessly upload videos of the creatures to YouTube.

For more on Spore, check out GameSpot's previous coverage. The full version of the game is set for release September 5 in Europe and September 7 in North America.

Please check out my Spore YouTube video entitled, "Human Anatomy Class with Spore" at the following web address - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1N_evtjs1k No, it's not pornographic in any way, shape or form, but it is quite unique and very funny. Please leave a comment on the video page, and if you really like it, please vote for it to win the YouTube Ultimate Spore Creature Creator Dance Off Contest in August. Thank you in advance for checking my video out, and I hope you enjoy it!

What the heck is with all this yelling about EA selling a piece of the game??? The creature creator WILL be with the full retail game when it comes out in September. This is just an opportunity to buy it early and fiddle with it before it comes out. Not to mention, as the guy at Gamestop told me... when the full game DOES come out, they rebate you for the cost of the Creature Creator. Sure, get mad about companies selling extra pieces of a game, though the expansion pack model has been around for a long time, but don't call this what it isn't. Plus, if you don't want it, don't buy it, typing in big angry words on a gaming website does little more than get ignored.

    Please note:
You get a FULL rebate on the cost of the CC if you buy spore. That means if you want to buy spore then net cost to you for the CC (and the amount of money EA gets for it) is £/$ 0.00
That means those who want to use this to make creatures for the full game can easily do so at no cost, and those that dont want the full game but want to mess around with the creator can also do so at no cost as the trial is free, so hey, everyone wins (including EA in the short term)

Creature creator has shown us power of the spore. That was great show .I think some gamers are right EA destroyed a lot of games such as sim city {society}, but we have to remember who has made this game, will wright is not a ordenary person. I think he is greatest game desighner. look at back and see his game (sim city, the sims and..)so I think 3 mounth later we are going to play a great game .

I think the creature creator still has a free version. Check the spore website.

Other than that, I fail to see your logic, Nesrie. I mean, they can charge for the creature creator software if they want to; it's their product, even though it may be a small part of it. You can't expect to get the first level or two of any video game for free if they made it available. It's like you saying, "That whole pizza sure looks nice, but why don't you give me these two slices for free?" Why get so fussed up about the creator anyways? The real game will be out sooner than you think. That's simply my 2 cents.

I am like some others here, not at all thrilled with the idea of being charged for pieces of a game. It's bad enough we have to buy games that are little more, if at all, better than beta's and now EA is charging for a creator that should be part of the game itself. bah.

jason 19 Wtf are you saying listen stop smoking crack
and pull your head out of your mum's ass this game is going to be
terrific epic as you can say all the customizable stuff for it it would clearly deserve a 10 out of 10 the only limit to this game is
    your imagination

There's one word to describe this editor, incredible! As an animator, I know how much work goes into structuring 3d meshes (models) and making them work with the bones, yet here anyone can easily drag and drop parts and they mostly work perfectly, the team has put a lot of effort into this, and if this is but a taste of whats to come, this could be a game of epic proportions.

This should be considered a tool for us wanting to create creatures early for a game. Those of you that don't want to buy it, simply download the trial. The 25% of the content will be worth it, I've been able to review this for a local magazine and it is a great tool for those people who want to get their hands wet with the primordial goo of life. Those of you complaining about this being a "Demo" it is not. It does demo the game to see if it runs on your system, that's true. But it is also a robust set of tools to create creatures that will later rampage across the galaxy. Also for those of you who missed gaming in the late 80's and early 90's it was very typical to sell Shareware and it got squashed by the net. This is not an attempt at squeezing more from your wallet as the free trial does not expire. Youtube spore creatures for some amazing examples that have already been made including a Murloc.

its only 10 dollars, whatever. for the amount of time ill use it its fine, and plus 10 bucks is nothing. if they start all the ps3 **** of selling parts once the game is released thats another thing

Frankly, $10 isn't that much, but its the principle that they are ripping off their customers that pisses me off so much. I'm going to buy it just so I can start a torrent of it. I can't believe Wright is letting them do this. EA is so evil.

    Posted Jun 12, 2008 3:38 am PT

I would kindly ask everyone to not buy the 10$ demo ... it just shows other game companies that they can sell pieces of a game and people will throw money at them just for afew parts.Instead of the real thing. I doubt many people will even listen and will just waste 10$ for a demo,If you would get a -10$ discount or something if you bought the creature creator then id agree with it ... but not like this.Greedy cheap ass marketing schemes.

'I'm sick and tired of PC and MAC, time for me to sell the whole **** and buy me a 360...'
    douchebag.....
also the demo is free.... the full creature creator is $9.99
god I couldn't disagree more though.... LOVE PC and HATE 360

This is rich, I mean, for like; 5-10 years ago they said "Here, take a demo of our game.", then "Sorry, there wont be a demo." then "Demos! Demos! only 9.99$!!".
I'm sick and tired of PC and MAC, time for me to sell the whole **** and buy me a 360...

Definatly will lay down 10 bux for the editor. Also think it's a good idea even if im not for buyin 'demo's' though i'd happely do it if it keeps crap that would otherwise flood the sporenetwork if it were free. Guess only people who seriously want to play will get it now. Does stand out of proportion that its both 10 euro and dollar. coz thats not really fair to europeans now is it.
but aside from the idea, screw that, its just 10 bux.

Everyone keeps calling it a demo and complaining about having to pay for it. If you read the full article you will see thats not really accurate. Anything you do in the CC will be importable into Spore when it comes out in September. So it not so much that you are paying $10 to get a taste of the game. Its more like you will be paying $10 to get a head start on the game. When the full game comes out in September you will already have some of the work done. You can also think of it as a way to make those two months go by that much quicker.

Wait, I'm confused... I understand the demo is actually free -- only the full Creature Creator costs $9.99. Okay. But does that mean that the full Creature Creator will NOT be included in the full version of Spore when it's released? Or will the full game only have an incomplete Creature Creator?

  • Santhin

    Posted Apr 30, 2008 6:07 am PT

Hey, if you don't want to pay money for a demo, don't buy it.

I think I'll save the 10 bucks and just wait on the game proper.

  • Tylendal

This just sounds sort of like the D.S. version, but without the gameplay.

  • ScorpSt

    Posted Apr 28, 2008 3:48 pm PT

OK, first off, the demo is free. The $10 is for the complete Creature Creator, as it is featured in the game. People who are complaining about how "they didn't do this for The Sims 2" have to realize that the Character Creator they released for TS2 was much like the free demo for Spore, a partially featured demo.

Some people may not want to buy the CC, some may opt not to download the free demo, but some people my decide to buy the CC and not get the full game. When you buy your full version of the game and are amazed at the sheer variety of other creatures, you might actually be thanking EA for releasing the CC. If they weren't charging for it, all you'd have is the demo.

As for me, I'll download the demo first. Then, if I think it's worth it, or if I'll get some kind of discount on the full game (any kind of discount. Even $1 off would be worth it for me) I'll buy the CC. But I'm definitely getting the full game.

This is the problem with EA. First we had to wait because this game was being released the same time as the mac version (which is BS... play this hug a mac user BS on some other game) and now in leui of product placment, we get to pay for a more complete demo when the full version of the game is going to be out not more than 2 months later?

oh ya. I hate EA too, but its not going to stop me from buying a good game (if it comes out for 360, that is)
