Head Coach going solo, Ryan covering PS3 NCAA
Following "surprising" amount of feedback, EA Sports will offer NFL coaching sim stand-alone for 360, PS3 on Sept. 2; BC QB covering Sony console edition of college pigskin.
EA Sports is constructing one heck of an elaborate trick play for the latest installment of NFL Head Coach. Benched after a modest performance following the 2006 season, EA said in February that it would be giving the coaching sim another go this year, with Super Bowl XLI-winning Colts chief Tony Dungy fronting the cover. Dungy cover duties were promptly called into question a month later, when EA said that NFL Head Coach 09 would only be available as part of the Madden NFL 09's 20th-anniversary $90 collector's edition bundle, available August 12.
Aspiring virtual skippers were apparently none too happy about the compulsory purchase of Madden NFL to receive Head Coach 09, a fact EA Sports president Peter Moore noted yesterday in his company blog. "I have to admit, even I was surprised by how much feedback we've gotten the past few weeks since we announced it as a featured item of our Madden Collector's edition," said Moore.
As such, EA has said that in addition to being packed in with the $90 Madden bundle, NFL Head Coach will also be offered as a stand-alone product on September 2. Available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the game will retail for $49.99.
In related EA Sports football news, the publisher also took the wraps off of the NCAA Football 09 cover athlete for the PS3 edition of the game. With Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden named to the Xbox 360 game, EA said today that Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan will grace the PS3 edition of NCAA Football 09. Now awaiting the 2008 draft, Ryan finished his career at BC as the school's all-time leader in pass completions, and was named the ACC's offensive player of the year in 2007. The NCAA Football 09 season kicks off July 15 on and will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, and Wii.

Lets see $90 bucks for two games and $110 for 1 game the wait till september for something I could have bought together with the 2. Way to go EA I dont want 2 spend 20 extra bucks and wait like 3 weeks for a game that I could have gotten 3 weeks earlyer and Cheaper

Way to high-ball us EA. Unless the game has a substantial amount of content, it's only worth $40.

I would have been a little more pleased to see a $40 price, but I'll take that as a nudge to hopefully robust content

Nice to see EA reacting to input from their customers. I guess if we make enough noise, even the evil corporate overlords have to pay attention.

EA is worthless. They rehash the same crappy game every year and expect people to dish out 50.00 bucks.

nobody gives a crap who covers, for all i care it could just be a cover saying NCAA FOOTBALL 09 with no pic of anyone.
i just want a good college football game, which EA sadly cannot make without putting a bunch of bugs and unfinished gameplay into it.
MAKE A GOOD FREAKING FOOTBALL GAME. PLEASE!

At least EA is starting to listen to the players more. You guys remember how they changed the unlock system for BF: Bad Company due to complaints?
Maybe they're changing for the better? Who knows. I sure hope so!

hey specialed,
iam so smart
the combo price was 90, the normal madden price, 60, so i subtracted and came up with 30. in the article it says 49.99, 50 - 30 =20. so its 20 more as a stand alone.

Good call for EA to offer it seperately, but i don't really know many people who are gonna buy just Head Coach and not Madden. Does make the collector's edition sound a bit better though.

Congrats to Matty Ice for the cover. I don't know about anybody but he's been on the cover of my NCAA for the past 2 years. I'll be making another custom cover for my 360 version with Matt Ryan on it.

Zabransky was a great cover choice. Boise State thrilled the nation the entire year and played the greates football game in history.
As for this 5 cover athlete thing... eh. Who cares? It's not like other games that offer different thing that make you want to buy multiple copies. I'm getting the game 360 for achievements and because it will run the best. I own the other systems but there is no point in doing this.
I have seen the first gameplay video of NCAA 09 and it looks amazing. They have fixed (hopefully) most of the issues that bogged last year's down.

Just so you've seen someone that does, I've been wanting a new version of Head Coach for a little while now. It was actually a fun game, but had some major issues.

This game doesn't sound like my kind of thing and its an EA game so if I was to buy it, I would expect a rushed game with more than likely poor gameplay quality.

I'm going to call BS on this one. While I don't know everyone that every played the game, no one I know wanted a sequel. In fact they petitioned EA to CHANGE the packin "extra" for something else. That's a great way to build up hype for something no one was willing to pay for in the first place. And what's the deal with 2 cover athletes? Trying to see if a version sells better because of the person on front? How many readers here know someone stupid enough to think that with two different covers, that they are going to get two different games when they buy both copies?

I'm going to get Head Coach with the Madden collector's edition. But it is good to offer it separately now.

Lol,that sounds like it could be an obsessive game, especially if you are into football and know all the players.I think I'll buy it.It'll definitely do good on both the 360 and the PS3.I hope it has good online play because I like all the games I buy to be able to work well with Xbox Live.Same with PS Online.Looks like an interesting game.

Good to hear that fans came out and said something about that potential screw job. I kinda suspected that Matt Ryan was going to be on one of the covers. He's probably been more talked about as the best overall player in this draft more than McFadden has.
