iMPACT! delayed until September

Midway's TNA Wrestling game will spend a few more months in development before stepping into the retail ring.

Wrestling fans have a few extra months to brace for TNA iMPACT!, as Midway today announced that its debut title with the wrestling league's license won't launch until September. Originally set to debut last year, the game will be released on the Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2.

Featuring a mix of former WWE talents, standouts pulled from the independent circuit, and homemade stars, TNA originated as a pay-per-view-only wrestling series in 2002 and has since expanded to include weekly shows on Spike TV. A full roster of wrestlers to be included in the game has not yet been released, but Midway has confirmed the following:

Abyss
AJ Styles
Alex Shelley
Booker T
Chris Sabin
Christian Cage
Christopher Daniels
Eric Young
Hernandez
Homicide
Jay Lethal
Jeff Jarrett
Kurt Angle
Rhino
Samoa Joe
Scott Steiner
Sting
Tomko

TNA iMPACT! is currently being developed at Midway's LA studio, which previously worked on Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Before it was acquired by the publisher, it was known as Paradox Development, creators of the Backyard Wrestling series of games.

overall this is gonna be the best wrestling game ever the last time they made a good wrestling game was in 1998 when they made wcw revenge i had that game on n64 and it rocked i am also a huge fan of fire pro wrestling. i enjoyed the recent fire pro game but from the best wrestling comes the best wrestling game TNA impact!! heres another fact the last wwe game was a total letdown i mean cmon wasnt smackdown vs raw 08 suposed to be a good game a score of 5 for the wii and a score of a 6 for the ps3 and then a 6.5 for the 360 can the next smackdown vs raw recover 08 i used to watch wwe but then i saw tna wwe copared to tna is like an nes game being compared to a next gen game

I am looking forward to this game with High Hopes. Yes, the previous quality of Midway games has me Skeptical too. However, they have the wrestlers adding to the production of the game. This is a 2 year developed game, while SVR games only go into production for 3 or 4 months. THQ doesnt spend alot of resources on it, though they do have talented programmers. As for TNA bashing, I showed people who dont like wrestling, TNA, and they like it better than WWE. WWF is dead to me. WWE is pure "Entertainment" now and very little wrestling. TNA is more lighthearted and doesnt take itself too seriously.

As for some people bashing each other for their opinions on here, I am saddened. Wrestling fans can't stick together as Proud wrestling fans anymore. If you take your opinion too seriously, you might make yourself sick. Though it hasnt happened in the wrestling game industry yet, hopefully 2 opposite wrestling brands will be able to have a decent wrestling game out. If not, we will continue to add TNA people to WWE games. Whats with the 32 CAW limit when there are hard drives now, eh?

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet or not but these wrestlers have also been confirmed:
    Kevin Nash
    Petey Williams
    Robert Roode
    Senshi
    Shark Boy
    Sonjay Dutt
    Team 3D

Christy Hemme has also been digitized to be included in the game and Mike Tenay is supposed to be an unlockable character if you pre-order your game from Amazon.

TNA management always say how they're against men hitting women in their storylines so i'm assuming they want the TNA knockouts left out or something to help with that. That's the only reason i can think of anyway if the knockouts are left out. I think it's unfair if they are left out though as the majority of them are quite talented.

I was worried (and a little upset) about this when I downloaded the new Live video and it said September 2008... Could be a mistake on Midway's part... Many people might opt to just wait for Smackdown since its WWE. Still, if the delay means a bigger roster (Including Gail Kim & the knockouts) or a better game, I'll wait.

All these delays must mean they're not happy with the quality and want to make sure they're new liecence is good enough to take on Yukes... well, lets hope so anyway. Fingers crossed.

    yourbeliefs :
do you rate someone like Rey Mysterio ? because if you do the whole of the X division is just sooo much better !
as for the stars Samoa Joe might not look it but if you see what he can do in the ring there is a reason the guy is so highly rated in the company and by the fans.
i gave up on WWF about 18 months ago and haven't missed it at all ... but i would miss TNA.
but as for the game i doubt it will come close to FPR or KOC .. but just hoping that it's a little better than WWF SvR.

ya know it is really annoying they make some of these games for ps 2 cause the likely hood is all the next gen consoles are getting a not as good version as they would do to accomadate for the ps 2.

Maybe they're waiting for TNA to sign some wrestlers that people actually give an S about. I mean I'm a WWF guy (yes, it will never be the WWE to me) and I will be the first to admit that they are in a downturn in terms of storyline and gimmick quality, but TNA's story lines are so inane that you'd rather watch WWF Raw episodes from 1995. I mean I've tried to watch iMPACT and I just can't get any interest in it. First off, any league that has people like Scott Steiner and Sting and Kevin Nash in main events has major issues. Its like watching WCW Nitro from 10 years ago, except with a lot more gray hair and embarrassment. Second, you don't care about any of the other "major" stars. The idea of a main event guy with the name and physique of "Samoa Joe" is about as believable as the idea that wrestling is more "real" than UFC. Kurt Angle should have a title reign reminiscent of Hulk Hogan in the mid 1980s, because with the possible exception of Christian there is no one on that roster who I could possibly believe could beat him. Yes I know that outcomes are pre-determined, but you need to at least put out the illusion that the outcome could possibly happen. And to have another guy who's ENTIRE gimmick is that he is a rip off of the Macho Man, I mean that's just sad. How about we get another guy who comes out with a python in a bag or a guy who comes out wearing a kilt and plays bagpipes? Finally, they have the WORST announcers. I think Jesse Ventura when he's 75 and Gorilla Monsoon in his current state would be better people for the job. The only hope this game has is if it has a good fighting system and very in depth/customizable create-a-wrestler (to create WWF guys) and career mode. If not, I think I'd rather play WWF Challenge on the NES.

I find it hard to imagine people really care about a delay in a wrestling game. I mean, yeah, I play them, I'm just saying that my life or purchase cycle has never rotated around the things. It's just like 'Oh, hey I saw one in the store, maybe I should pick it up.'

Take as much time as u want midway, but please do NOT disappoint us, we've already been much disappointed by Yukes SvR 08. Just a proper and long nice game and we turn our heels on WWE SvR right away, so please give us a game we will remember for a long time.

I think it's a good idea that they delay it. Watching some of the videos, it's looking very far from being ready at the moment. Hopefully they'll be able to up the quality of a polished wrestling game. It's a toss-up, seeing as Shaolin Monks was a great little beat em up, but Backyard Wrestling was a craptastic wrestling franchise.

Delays usually mean it's not up to snuff yet. Hopefully this should at least be different and offer an alternative to the WWE games. As long as making people tap with Samoa Joe feels satisfying, I'm so getting this.

I like how people wanna bash this game because Midway made the Backyard Wrestling games without even thinking about how different these games are. The Backyard Wresting games were made to be arcady and over the top and completely fake. This game is going to be more realistic and closer to what TNA wrestling is.
