Judas Priest first Rock Band album DLC

[UPDATE] Screaming for Vengeance set for release next week at $15 price point; The Pixies and The Cars next in line.

Last year, Harmonix and MTV Games promised that their rhythm game duet Rock Band would feature full downloadable albums, with The Who's "Who's Next" one announced offering and Nirvana's "Nevermind" a heavily rumored second option. However, these albums were conspicuously absent from the game's launch lineup of downloadable content, and months passed with no word of when they would finally arrive.

Last month's Boston six-pack of songs came a single track shy of a full album, but next week Harmonix is finally set to make good on its prelaunch promise with the release of Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance in its entirety. The 10-song album will be available Tuesday on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Thursday on the PlayStation Store, with an asking price of $14.99 (1,200 Microsoft points).

Screaming for Vengeance features the group's biggest hit, "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," as well as "Electric Eye" and "Pain and Pleasure." All 10 songs will be the original Judas Priest master recordings, and they will be available individually for $1.99 (160 Microsoft points), although the 41-second track "The Hellion" will be included in the "Electric Eye" download.

Since the launch of Rock Band, Harmonix says customers have downloaded more than 8 million songs for the game, with a playable catalog of roughly 140 tracks between the original disc and downloadable content.

[UPDATE] Newsweek's Level Up blog is reporting on the next two album downloads to follow Screaming for Vengeance. According to the article, next month will see The Cars' self-titled album released, followed by The Pixies' Doolittle in June. As for the album prices, the site reported that they will vary depending on the number of tracks included.

i know its really late to bring this up but anyone else feel like i do with the rock band controller its a great concept to fingertap the solos but i have fat fingers and its pretty much a worthless thing to me cuz the buttons are like an inch wide i think they should re make it with wider solo buttons i cant be the only one with big fingers who cant use those buttons am i?

Its good that they finally are getting these albums out.

Now just for the irony, who else wants to see a Dead Kennedys album in here?

I agree that the asking price is a little steep considering you can buy the actual album for less but it's Rock Band, a video game that has had great DLC since it started, not like GH III whom I feel has dropped the ball on the DLC side. Judas Priest wouldn't have been my first choice either but hey, it's a whole album, and even though I may sound negative I am actually excited about this, it means Rock Band will continue to rock on. Does anyone know if Rock Band 2 is in development? With all the money I have spent on Rock Band DLC it would be nice that instead of a Rock Band 2 maybe they could release a patch or something to update it because eventually if and when a Rock Band 2 comes out I will probably have spent about $300 in DLC unless our DLC for Rock Band will be able to be played in Rock Band 2, that would be sweet. Rock On Everyone!

$15? Come on. The list price for the remastered cd w/ 2 bonus tracks is only $11.99.
I also wonder if each purchase will count as a unit in the albums total sales.

I would definitely buy a Led Zeppelin album.Maybe Aerosmith,Metallica,Nirvana,or even Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now those are the albums that I would like to see.I would buy an individual song from Linkin' Park, like What I've Done or something, that would be nice. But the albums are 15 bucks, that is what bothers me.I mean,ya it's almost the same price as a CD would be,except with playability. The only thing is,you can't really make that a big factor because you might as well watch the song vid on youtube. It all comes down to how good the album really is,adding up to how awesome it would be to play on Rockband and actually fork out 15 bucks for it.Only a few albums are worth it to me.

I almost died when I heard this. Judas Priest is without a doubt one of the greatest bands to walk the Earth, and a full album download from them would be pure bliss. Screaming for Venegance isn't my favorite by them, but an excellent choice nonetheless. I'll gladly drop the $15 for this on Thursday.

Not a fan of The Cars or The Pixies, so hopefully we'll get Who's Next and Nevermind soon.

Yeah...bad album to put up. Put on painkiller instead, like many others suggest. The drums to the main song, painkiller? Take it to the next level.

I think the price is almost a steal, $15 for ten songs to play on three instruments from an amazing band off one of their best albums (this ties with Painkiller for my favorite Priest albums, but Painkiller on Rock Band would be suicide, the Painkiller intro and All Guns Blazing guitar solo would be impossible). Long live Priest!

Its not alot of money when you consider its playable in at least 3 solo careers (mike, guitar and drums) and is 10 songs. its still less then 2 bucks a song, what more do you want? I think its fair and I will be happy to five star some more songs . I have every song so far, they're doing a great job!

i'd rather something earlier from priest be released... 'sin after sin,' perhaps... or 'stained class.' but still, judas priest is perfect for rock band, and i imagine the album will sell big. now if they'd just get in league with, say... king crimson (i know it's not gonna happen, but what the hell), i don't know if i'd be able to resist getting an xbox any longer!

Judas Priest is all well and good but why don't they actually release Who's Next and finish all 18 songs of the Grateful Dead set before they start pulling out things they haven't announced! (Still, it is a nice choice.)

$15 is fine since that's what the album costs anyway. I think they should sell it cheaper, but either way it's gonna cost the same. Might as well get a more interactive version.

    Hmm.

I was prepared to flame this selection by Harmonix heavily. I was going to ask "who in the world would consider downloading this crappy band", but after reading the comments, I have to hand it to Harmonix. Maybe I'll give it another listen before making up my mind, You Got Another Thing Comin' is a worthy download, after all.

Doolittle would be a good Pixies album or Surfer Rosa, especially since it's already mentioned in the chorus of the OK Go song that shipped with RB.

So even if this doesn't fit my taste, it seems like a good pick, as it apparently will hit the metalhead and some classic rock funnybones. I'm still dreaming of getting Built to Spill's Keep it Like a Secret or You In Reverse albums, but it may be a little too unknown, but would be AWESOME fun to play. Would also love to see some Joe Walsh but it would be easy to play. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and Slick Shoe's rusty album would be tremendous though.

judas preist awesome all i need is for a price drop and a PS3 release anyway Judas Preist ftw

Anziano you picked 2 of the most mainstream and well known albums from both metallica and AC/DC
yeah back in black is definitive AC/DC but still imo Bon Scott Era AC/DC is better.
but saying you would rather have the black album by tallica over albums like Kill em all and Master of puppets.

but Judas Preist FTW especially good it caters for the metal crowd a bit better.

i might go look at rock band forum and put in request for either paramore album which would be good or a coheed and cambria album.

This is un-freaking-believably LAME. Who cares about Judas Priest? This is an album with one hit, and it's not even that good of a song. How about Metallica's "Black Album", or "Back in Black" from AC/DC? What happened to "Nevermind?" How about "Ten" from Pearl Jam? This is as crappy an idea as cranking out Greatful Dead songs. Wake up, Rock Band...get us some Green Day or Weezer albums...Some Hendrix would be awesome, too...Something GOOD!
