Splinter Cell and Metal Arms coming to Xbox Originals

Ubisoft's Chaos Theory and Vivendi's A Glitch in the System set to make downloadable debuts on Microsoft's latest console next Monday.

When Microsoft originally announced its Xbox Originals initiative, the plan was to release games from the company's first console for download on the Xbox 360 at "a very steady flow" approaching a weekly basis. Five months down the road, the initial offering of Xbox Originals has expanded by only four games (Ninja Gaiden Black, Sid Meier's Pirates, Black, and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey).

While the program is off to a slower start than expected, Microsoft is continuing to add to the roster of downloadable Xbox games. On the blog of Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, the Xbox Live director of programming today announced that two new games would arrive on the service next Monday. Specifically, Xbox 360 owners will be able to download Ubisoft's 2005 stealth game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, as well as Vivendi's Metal Arms: Glitch in the System.

As with all Xbox Originals, both titles will be available for 1,200 Microsoft points ($15) each. For more, check out GameSpot's original reviews of Chaos Theory and Metal Arms.

When Xbox Originals get either a price drop to $10, OR...

    -Achievements
    -360 integration
    -Emulation bug fixes
    -Better HD support
-Extra content (DLC, collectors editions, etc)
    -Expanded online play

Then I'll buy it. Until then, it is a complete waste, and you can find all of these games for less then $10 with shipping on eBay. And that way, you get a hard copy, and that doesn't get taken away from you if for some reason anything happens.

A slow start eh? Well how about a price drop? 15 bucks is a bit much for something we can buy used for 7 bucks or less at a used game store or on ebay. Originals is a good idea, but the games cost too much. Drop the price, sell WAY more and it makes economical sense. Metal Arms is seriously one of my all time favorite Xbox games. Anyone who hasn't played it, if you like shooters, strong gameplay and humerous writing, go for it, its a GREAT game.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is one of the best games on the Xbox. Also Metal Arms is one of the most under appreciated games. It is also an awesome addition to anyones gaming collection. That little robot really kicks can.

These Xbox originals seem pointless and way overpriced you can pick up the boxed games for so little.

Both games rock, but Id rather have them on disc unless they allow achievements, or at least the 360's private chat features.

Good point. The XBox 360 harddrive costs $100 for 20GB. A 120GB EXTERNAL USB harddrive for PC costs $70. And the PC harddrive can be used when you buy a new PC years from now. The 360 harddrive probably WON'T work with M$s next-gen console. M$ is ripping you guys off!

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System is an excellent single and multiplayer game. Chaos Theory requires no introduction.

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System is Awesome, I just hope they make a new one though I doubt it because it is made by Swingin' Apes Studios and they might not own the Franchise because maybe Vivendi Owns it. Then I remembered that Vivendi owns Blizzard and Blizzard owns Swinin' Apes. So maybe it is possible for a Sequal.

Chaos Theory is one of the best games ever made. If you missed it, you really should download it or go buy it. Why didn't they make the first Splinter Cells available first though?

If they lowered the price of them and put some more decent games on there like gta or nfs underground 2 id get some of them. Also they need to make the price of the hdd cheaper

I wish they would keep doing BC.... I really would like some games to be added to BC that i missed on the original Xbox.... Second, why should i pay 15 for a digital copy that fills up my hdd, when i can get the actual game for 10 or less at GS/ebay? M$ at it again...

chaos theory was amazing but why would you download it for a tenner when you can buy it off amazon for under 5 pounds also you can buy double agent for under a tenner too.

Chaos Theory was the perfection of the Splinter Cell series, Double Agent sucks in comparison. If you haven't played it, do so, it practically looks like a 360 game too, great graphics.

To all the people begging for KotOR - I'm assuming you haven't played KotOR on the 360, but both versions run pretty badly. The frame rate was pretty choppy on the second game to begin with but both of them are much worse when run on the 360. They aren't going to sell games through official channels like that until they get the emulation right. That's not even mentioning the sound glitches. You'd all start whining "Why did you sell us KotOR when it doesn't work properly? MS are the devil! Blah, blah blah."

Does anyone else find it amusing at all of the people on here contradicting each other with their "Go check out Metal Arms, it's the best game no one played!" statements? It was a really good game, don't get me wrong. As for these Xbox Originals, I have to say, I think it's a pretty poor idea. My HD is all ready full of "premium" content and arcade games. I have a hard enough time juggling what little space I have left. As for the price, yeah... don't think much has to be said that hasn't all ready on that. On top of that, I have a hard enough time to play the current gen games in my library, let alone go back to ones that I all ready played years ago. I have to wonder how many people that didn't play these games the first time are really going to take an overpriced chance on them years later.

When are they going to come out with some better games for the XBox Originals? Halo, Ninja Gaiden Black, and Fable are the only classic games on there. Pirates! was an okay game. I bought Dreamfall and Indigo Prophecy and couldn't have been more dissappointed with both of them. Both were great as stories and were more like interactive movies. Indigo Prophecy, it felt like I was play Simon all the time. You know, the memory game with the four colored panels? You have to do a long sequence at a fast pace everytime an action sequence occurs. If you screw up at all, you die usually. Dreamfall don't get me started on that game. 20 hours of walking, talking, and solving little situational puzzles; with hardly any action at all. Maybe 12 fights in total and the combat system was extremely painful to use. Don't even get me started on the ending! I can't even call either one of those two games, they were definitely interactive movies. Bring us the classics, or better games that might have been missed during the transition between generations!

    Metal - Arms - Owns - Everything.

In other news, where the HELL is BEYOND GOOD & EVIL and ODDWORLD STRANGERS WRATH... as of now, that's all I care about in the world of video games... since I sold my original Xbox like a dummy... even GTA IV is lower on my list of important things... hell, Halo 3 is lower... I just want, with all my heart, to be able to play Beyond Good & Evil on my Xbox 360.

If there was a game that was one of the best games ever made that nobody played, it wasn't Metal Arms, it was BG&E. Great story, great plot, great world, great characters, great gameplay, great presentation, great atmosphere, perfect length, and incredible ending. No game has ever impressed me as much as that game did (especially when you think the game is gonna tank). If you haven't played it, you have to. It's on the Xbox, the PS2, the Gamecube, and the PC. Find a way to play BG&E. It's almost heracy to gaming NOT to play that game.

15 each for games that cost less than 10 used...wow, what a deal, yet again. i wonder exactly, how successful the originals program is. i assume it's microsoft's answer to the virtual console, but the thing is, those games are less expensive and smaller in file size. the limited backwards compatability in harddrive equipped 360's works well enogh to support the games on the originals list. why wait up to an hour for the download when you can go to a used game store and save money and harddrive space.

The only thing metal arms was missing was online multiplayer and/or bots offline and co-op. If it had all of those it could have easily been one of my favorite games.

Anyways, two great additions to XBLM. Chaos Theory is my favorite Splinter Cell and was the only one that I could actually get into and enjoy.

Metal Arms is one of the most underrated games of all time. It didn't get nearly the amount of attention that it deserved. I still have my old GC copy of it, even though I don't have a GC anymore. I probably won't buy it in the Marketplace, either, since I can get it at Gamestop for probably under $8. I have been wanting to play it again recently, so we'll see.
