Demigod ascension postponed to '09

Sins of a Solar Empire purveyor Stardock now publishing Gas Powered Games' RTS/RPG hybrid for PC in February; open beta penciled in for this summer.

Gas Powered Games roared off the 2008 starting line with one of the first games announced for the year, Demigod. Initially slated to arrive for the PC in the latter part of 2008, Gas Powered Games today said that the title is now slated for a February 2009 launch, and that Sins of a Solar Empire publisher Stardock has signed on as the studio's publishing and distribution partner.

Demigod is a real-time strategy game with role-playing game sensibilities often compared to Blizzard Entertainment's popular Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne user-created mod Defense of the Ancients. Set in a far-future fantasy world, players take to the planes of war as epic deities leading legions of underlings as they vie for a seat in the pantheon of supreme beings. While Demigod will emphasize cooperative and competitive gaming, a single-player portion will also be incorporated.

While Demigod's official launch has technically been pushed back, players will actually be able to wade into the fray sooner rather than later. Stardock and Gas Powered Games also said today that the game will benefit from a public beta beginning this summer.

As with other Stardock offerings, the game will be free of on-disc copy protection, and the publisher said that Demigod will receive "many months" of free postrelease feature updates. For more on Gas Powered Games' Demigod, head over to the game's preliminary Web site.

    @DontEatCream
    You are really retarded. SupCom and Sins aren't turn based. How are RTSs even turnbased in the first place? Also not all good RTSs come from Blizzard you know

    @DontEatCream
    Supreme Commander and Sins of Solar Empire are "turn-based games"? Did you even TRY playing them?

    I dunno. If this turns out to be the mod exactly, save a few more polygons here and there, I'll just get Warcraft III and fire up the downloader.

    Sweet. Finally a game from Stardock and Gas Powered Games that I wanna play. No offence meant for SupCom or Sins - they're both awesome games that deserve mad props, but I'm just not a fan of turn-based games and non-Blizzard (lol) RTS games.

    This game, though... this game will definitely be on my list for next year.

    Sounds good. I hope these companies will manage to stay in business for 5-10 years at least.

    After Sins of a Solar Empire, I thought that Stardock only publishes electronically outside the US? Does this mean that this won't be available in disk form for the rest of us? TBH I'd probably download it anyway if it was the same price, but it does seem interesting for GPG to be working with such a small publisher.

    Great! This is the kind of game that needs time and caring. I'm sure that when it comes out, it will be pretty awesome. I hope this is successful enough to come to consoles like PS3 and Xbox, because my computer will not be able to handle this.

    After Supreme Commander I'm hyped for anything by Gas Powered Games. I'm a bit disappointed that Demigod was delayed, but the open beta makes up for it. Stardock is cool too, any publisher that let's you play without the CD gets big points in my book.
