The Force to be Unleashed in September

LucasArts' latest chapter in the Star Wars saga coming to US September 16, Europe September 19.

First it was coming in November 2007, then it was pushed back to the second quarter of 2008, but now it looks like the highly anticipated new chapter in the Star Wars game library will finally be gracing store shelves this September.

In an almost simultaneous worldwide launch, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be coming to North America on September 16, Southeast Asia and Australia on September 17, and Europe on September 19.

In The Force Unleashed, gamers will play Darth Vader's secret apprentice. The game is set between the ending of the movie Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The secret apprentice is tasked by Vader to rid the world of the scourge of the Jedi, and "promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy."

LucasArts describes the game as "one of the most ambitious projects" it has ever launched.

In the US during April, Spike TV will be promoting The Force Unleashed by showing the full series of Star Wars movies, interspersed with trailers, gameplay footage, and/or new announcements about the game.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Wii, DS, and PlayStation Portable.

Percypoo spewed "They just keep making it up as they go along at Lucasarts".

Well, yeah, they do, since they are the ones who made up Star Wars in the first place! You talk about the original movies as though they're some sort of historical fact. They're works of fiction, and the creators of those works are continuing to add to the universe. I don't get why you have a problem with this. There's nothing sacred about the movies.

Oh please, "Darth Vader's secret apprentice". They just keep making it up as they go along at Lucasarts. It just seems cheap and tacked on that game developers keep trying to squeese in loads of ridiculous unplanned plot devices that revolve around a film that was released over thirty years ago! Sure Star wars is still a very lucrative lisence , you only have to look at all the messages on this forum to realise that. This could be a really fun game but I think it's far more crafty to take the whole thing back 4000 years like they did in the KOTOR games. What I'm saying is, Lucasarts, don't keep filling the gaps between the original movies for the sake of making good game stories. Take the whole ancient times thing a little bit forward, maybe about 800 years before "The Phantom Menace" and try to explain how the galaxy as seen in the Star Wars movies was shaped. Yoda's childhood, Emporer Palpatine's upbringing. Why did a family of useless fat slugs become the Mafia of Tatooine? You see me now?

wow i feel like im repeating myself from the other news i was commenting on. everybody is just way too impatient too many games lately have been rushed and half done just to reach their release date. i dont mind waitin a few extra months so they can get all the little things done right.
the more polish the better folks. and this game probably wont be as good as KOTOR since that games success had nothing to do with the Star Wars license or lucas arts it was because of Biowares skills that KOTOR was a huge success.

Hmmm looks a little arcady hopefully these guys played alot of Star Wars Jedi Knight namely Jedi Academy and Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast which in my opinion from what I've seen so far are much better and more realistic.
This game seems like a rehash without the quirky touch that seems to make some games great. I'm talking about those games that had fun stuff to do that made you want to play them again even though you already knew the story line.

I'll probably get either the Wii or PS2 version. It looks promising. I loved "Psi-Ops:The Mindgate Conspiracy" on PS2 and XBox. The whole idea of using "the Force" to manipulate objects sounds like these devs played Psi-Ops. If that's the case, and I hope it is, then they're already making good use of an unsung cult hit.

I don't get why their doing it either, "history" proves that games that come out on PC last longer because of mods and other user-created content, especially if they have good SDKs, like UT, the Elder Scrolls, Farcry & Crysis. I mean, there're still plenty of people playing Oblivion for the sick mods.

Then again...it's not like I'll be buying it seeing as it's NOT ON PC!!! HAHA!!! I laugh at you Lucas Arts for being such dumb people and ditching your loyal PC fans. EPIC FAIL...ure in judgment. There go about 0.5-1 million copies of a game you could have made for PC, but no, you know want, you're right, DS is a way bigger market than PC, silly me. (BTW I still love DSs and PSPs)

shade1978x You miss some very vital points - graphics cards are developed for PC gamers - PC Gamers more than any other type of gamer drive hardware forward.

As for a unified PC gaming structure as for hardware maybe not but that's wher DX 9 and 10 come into play.

"Gaming is all consoles do, so they should be and are the best option for casual, economic-conscious gamers." - Erm even the Dreamcast had a web browser and my Wii has an email address the line between consoles and PCs is being crossed both ways all the time. Just a few points.

I have a 360 so i'm not to upset but I really it on the PC, higher resolutions = nicer graphics for a game that already looks so good. Plus they could even allow the PC version to take advantage of the PPU (physics processing unit).

Playstation 3, Playstation *2*, and PSP, but no PC version. LucasArts are notorious now for money-whoring, but they decided to publish a game for every game system BUT PC?

I play on almost all consoles and also on the pc and i dont think that the pc gaming market will ever die off even though it is in a slump. But anyway i cant wait for the force unleashed but im having trouble deciding which console i should get it on. Either the 360 with awesome graphics or the Wii with good graphics and duel mode. but the price will influence my buy because on the 360 it will probably be $60.00 and on the Wii it most likely will be $50.00

One last thing. For some reason, digital download and transfers aren't taken into account when calculating PC gaming revenue. For what reason, I don't know, but I know that 80% of the games I bought last year were via digital download. Take of that what you will.

The PC/Console debate is silly. Consoles ARE computers. They have boards, processors, video components, audio components, hard drives. The only difference is that consoles are made for one purpose: gaming.

The fact that a PC can be a competitive gaming alternative and it isn't even a dedicated gaming device, says something. PCs aren't made PRIMARILY for gaming. In fact, gaming on a PC is an afterthought. The high-priced video cards are used for people in computing industries but people can also use them for gaming, so they do.

Also, there isn't a dedicated PC gaming structure as there is for consoles. For every console sold, Microsoft or Sony can lose up to a few hundred dollars per unit with the hope that software sales will make up for the loss. They get a percentage for every game sold. The PC market doesn't have that. There is no central corporate source that gets a percentage for every copy of WOW or Crysis or Sims sold. It's disconnected. If Dell started selling high-end gaming PCs for $800 and got a percentage of every game sold, then the PC would be considered "on-par" with consoles. Consoles do very well for what they were created. PC can actually do these things better, but the price/cost/customer relationship/dynamic isn't the same for computers as they are for gaming.

It shouldn't be an argument. The facts are:

--A high-end PC will ALWAYS outperform a console, even a brand-spanking new one, because the tech in a console is already close to a year old by the time it hits the consumer market.

--High-end gaming PCs are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for casual gamers.

--Most people aren't tech-savvy enough to build and tweak a PC into a thoroughbred gaming device.

Consoles are MADE FOR GAMING, so saying that "Consoles are better for gaming." is like saying "Flying cross-country is faster than driving." Gaming is all consoles do, so they should be and are the best option for casual, economic-conscious gamers.

Gaming PCs are for technophiles with expendable income who want the best quality for the best gaming experience.

Consoles are like Hondas. They get you from A to B, are relatively affordable and maintenance-free. Gaming PCs are like European sportscars. Yes, they're too damn expensive and too damn fast, but if you can afford one and pronounce the name of the company, you'll buy one.

I have an Xbox 360. I think it's a great gaming console, but my kids play it 95% of the time whereas I game on my PC 95% of the time.

One isn't better than the other in terms of preference. It's all up to what you can afford and what you want to put up with. Gaming is gaming, no matter if you play it on paper with dice, in an arena, on a console or a PC.

    Posted Apr 5, 2008 5:27 pm PT

lol..not to get into this lil debate or anything but..i do find it alot easier to use a console i know will work over the pc..i never had to upgrade my 360 . but yeah..you should stop crying about the force unleashed not being on PC and if you want it that bad go buy a console- just dont buy any video cards for your pc for a week and im sure you'll find some money laying around on the floor somewhere..
