Alone in the Dark release date shifts
Move back to June to let Eden Studios push for an "even higher standard."
It looks as if gamers awaiting the granddaddy of survival horror may be biting their nails for a little while longer. Alone in the Dark's next-generation rebirth, announced in 2005 and delayed several times since--it was described as "probably the hit of our next year" by previous Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell in an earnings call in 2006--will be coming out a month later than previously scheduled.
Atari, owned by French publisher Infogrames, has today confirmed that Alone in the Dark's release date is moving back a month. The Xbox 360 and PC versions that are being developed by Eden Games, as well as Hydravision's PlayStation 2 and Wii versions, will be available in the EU and PAL territories on June 20, and in the US on June 24. The PlayStation 3 version, also being developed by Eden, does not currently have a confirmed release date.
Lee Kirton, Atari's head of UK PR, told GameSpot, "The game has been postponed from May to allow the development team at Eden Games to polish the game to an even higher standard and deliver the best possible experience to gamers with this remarkable product."
Alone in the Dark reboots the series that essentially created the survival-horror genre as we know it today, bringing MacGyver-esque problem-solving to gamers in what is now being billed as a survival-action game. The game is set in, around, and under New York's Central Park, with the city under attack from a strange, malevolent being as the protagonist struggles to stay alive and work out exactly what is going on.
