Warhawk upgrades to Operation: Broken Mirror

Second booster pack to Incognito's online-centric shooter touches down on Sony's PlayStation 3 for $7.99 on April 17.

Although Incognito's Warhawk is available as a boxed product at brick-and-mortar retailers, the online-centric game has also led Sony's efforts in distributing full games over the PlayStation Network. Thus far, the publisher has been using the game's downloadable status to good effect, having released periodic updates and booster packs over the PlayStation Network. In December, the Omega Dawn pack debuted alongside the game's second major update.

With the third free major update slated to arrive in April, Warhawk game director Dylan Jobe said today by way of Sony's official blog that the second booster pack, Operation: Broken Mirror, has gone gold and will be available for download alongside Gran Turismo 5 Prologue beginning on April 17.

As with the first booster pack, Broken Mirror will require a $7.99 entrance fee. Once purchased, gamers will have access to the new Vaporfield Glacier battlefield, which offers 10 different layouts. The booster pack also adds two new armored personnel carriers and 10 layouts for existing battlefields that have been designed to take advantage of the new vehicles.

In his post, Jobe went into detail about what gamers can expect from Vaporfield Glacier. As can be surmised, Vaporfield Glacier offers a snow-blanketed environment, and Jobe said that dynamic weather effects will factor into the gameplay. With Vaporfield broken down into 10 different sections--up from five seen in the first booster--Jobe also said that the new level will appeal the most to fans of small- to medium-sized maps.

Alongside the 1.3 update, this is will build on what is already my fave game of the last year. I think Warhawk is already a finely balanced game & hopefully this will refine it even further. I do wish for incognito to make mines slightly more visible tho!!
As for PSN vs XBL, I own both consoles and think that XBL seems to attract more immature gamers in my opinion - this could be the fact that you get a headset with the 360 & so everyone has a headset and the idiots feel compelled to use it regardless if they have anything to verbally contribute to the session or not.
PSN home will be streets ahead of XBL anyway when it is released & it will be free yeh!!!. So this is why I will be buying all multi format releases on PS3 format (and also I dont get that intrusive jet engine noise from the 360 when Im trying to hear my game LOL)

I def want to pick up Warhawk via PSN. I am always getting into games way later after they hit. Been playing Lost Planet on PS3. But kinda bored after a few weeks. Warhawk should keep me occupied til MGS4 comes out.

Since I don't care either way, let me ask this to both sides:

Can an online game support be ended on either service?

For example, I have a number of PS2 games that had their online service terminated after a few months. I have never experienced this problem with online PC games so I was shocked to experience this as I wanted to play co-op with my buds. But consoles are a different breed I guess...

So during the lifetime of the PS3 or 360 (again since ya'll are debating console online services and not the PC), which service/s can guarantee that the game will be playable, online, in the future?

I love this game since I get it, I have had no lag problems here after having a lot of lag problems with unreal tournament 3. It would be nice to have PSN prepaid cards instead of having to use debit or credit cards online.

On the same boat as you Apollo

Only difference is i refuse to use my debit card especially due to the recent hack sony just experienced. But I think it ight be possible to use a pre-paid debit card and buy something that way. I'll look into it.

I think the APC will be a mobile spawn point, and people that spawn in it will spawn equipped with a rifle as well. Not 100% on the weapon, but either way, having a mobile spawn point will be huge for changing strategy in this game.

patches and content like the forth coming Warhawk patch is smart and unlike Lost Planet: Colonies, I don't have to buy the disc all over again without the benefit of transferring my stats, etc. Warhawk is a very well thought out and executed title, and in many ways vastly underrated..

i have the first download pack for warhawk : omega dawn
its really cool, the dropship didnt really make a diffrence, its cool that you can Pick up vechicles. and hole up to like 8 other players i belive?
but to tell the truth, the map is the reason why i bought the download pack, and i can;t wait for this one to comeout, looks good!

@ski11buzz it is not about whos online service is better, but it is about console online gaming service being worth 50 dollars a year to play online or should their be a fee at all. This is about Warhawk because you get to play it online for free. Remember, Freedom is Liberating!

I totally agree with awheaten . i rather play online for free, with Xbox live, having a few extras IS decent and all
but for me, i rather be able to play for free, one reason why i bought a PS3 was so i didn't have to pay fees for a month and or a year, but but considering the high costs for playstation 3's, i guess you could say i paid a free to play online!

To me it is all about what your looking for. With me I'm looking to play videogames online for free, not because I'm cheap, but thats the way it should be. The way Sony's system is set up allows players to do that. All that extra stuff is well... it is a matter of one's taste. I can care less about achievements. Just want to have fun off the internet service I'm currently paying for monthly. You may feel free to continue to play your over priced system for a yearly over priced fee, thank you.

Honestly, I have a 360 and a ps3. Speaking only on the online service. xbox blows psn out the water. But you do get what you pay for and psn is free. And if psn was as intuitive and easy to navigate like live , i would gladly pay for it. Sadly my ps3 is a blu ray player waiting for metal gear solid and gt. i do like warhawk, but cod4 calls me back everytime. just stop defending your ps3 purchase by saying its online is at least free, when you know it isnt up to par with the 360. The best thing about the ps3 right now, is its potential. Fan of videogames since 1985

    Posted Mar 29, 2008 8:11 pm PT

The only thing that turns me off of Warhawk is the fact that it's multiplayer only. That's annoying because the game really is quite fun to play, but I don't always want to battle people...I'd rather do something more interesting.

Good that it's continuously being supported though.

  • Maersyndel

    Posted Mar 29, 2008 7:42 pm PT

Live isn't what it's made out to be. I doubt I'll be renewing my subscription, not that it's bad, just that the PSN does everything I want. I'll just use the 360 for offline games and demos.

ANYWAY, this is looking like being an awesome addition to Warhawk. It had rough beginnings, but the amount of after release support this game has had definitely has lifted this game into the top tier of online gaming. Sadly, I'm addicted to CoD 4, but I'll be giving this a look for sure.

  • popplayer22

    Posted Mar 29, 2008 7:16 pm PT

Well truthfully in my opinion, Warhawk is one of the best online multiplayer games on the market. And this Vaporfield Glacier will only sweeten it. I cancelled my Xbox Live Account months ago. Let's see, do I wanna play CoD4 for free or for 50 bucks a year? I'll take free. So if there's an online multiplatform game released I buy the ps3 version. I'm not paying 50 bucks a year for friend management and acheivements. The hell with that. I'll take the PSN anyday over live.

  • dmish82

    Posted Mar 29, 2008 5:48 pm PT

    @blackace

Why are you wasting everyone's time bragging about your $50 Xbox Live service on a Warhawk expansion forum? You're an idiot if you think Live is superior to the PSN. The only thing it has on it is friend management. So you're paying $50/year for friend mgmt??? Sounds STUPID to me.

I honestly think that Warhawk has the best if not one of the best online communities around. By this, I mean that the Playstation Blog's relationship with the owner's of the game is unrivaled. I was just over there and the developers regularly respond to the thread posts, especially this latest one. The new content is extremely well thought out and original, as well as fairly priced/fairly set up on the servers. Well done Incognito, a fantastic booster pack.

  • Blackbird34

    Posted Mar 29, 2008 4:23 pm PT

blackace, why dont you go back to the 360 forums where you belong. You may own a PS3 but dang, why complain about new content. I know that Incognito hasnt given us any free maps or anything as of yet but get over it.

I would rather stick with the PS3 network rather than swap to some other system (the 360) which is going to be obsolete in another year or two. The PS3 is far more powerful than the 360 could ever dream of being. Sure, I may have payed more for my PS3 than I would have a 360 but at least I get what I pay for (a good quality system), whereas I dont think the 360 is worth the components they put in the thing.

    @vabus

i really do agree with you but a true gamer is rather well rounded and appreciates the many facets of games, a true gamer doesn't just play halo 3 and COD 4, they branch out and explore and try different types of games cause one genre or two doesn't contain them. i don't think that online is for everyone, and there is plenty of good multiplayer offline through lans and split screen and otherwise, but i think i see what he was getting at.

  • vabus

Burnout and COD4 are better on PSN than LIVE. Live is better at managing friends etc. but that will change when HOME comes out

If you can't afford $50 a year, you shouldn't be a gamer. PERIOD!! People on here buy video games EVERY MONTH and then complain about $50 for XBox Live which is a far superior service then PSN. It's a riot. You guys say PSN is FREE? It's not FREE, Sony is paying another company to manage their servers, routers and networked systems. You're not paying the FEE because Sony is. LOL!! As soon as Sony decides they aren't going to pay for it anymore, guess who's going to pay. YOU!! Only some of M$ games are P-to-P, not all of them. Several of their games do use dedicated server that are managed by M$. It costs a LOT of money to keep the servers maintain and to manage all that content. M$ has a complete Live Center that houses all this stuff. The lease on the building has to get paid somehow. With over 5 million Live members online, M$ may eventually lower the price of the service, but for now it's $50 and the people who use it, love it. Nuff said.

    Live Operation Center ---> http://console.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTIwOCwxLCxoY29uc29sZQ==

As for Warhawk, as soon as they create a single player compaign, I'll pick it up. Why they made this game online only is beyond me. The original Warhawk was incredible before it was a single player game.

You're crazy. This game aint junk by a long shot. There's COD4, RFOM, UT3, GRAW, etc for other people to "pick off the table" to get their shooter fix. Warhawk is just awesome because the maps are huge, you can use vehicles (I know it's not the only game that can) and it's 16 on 16. It's fun.

  • ctg867

    Posted Mar 29, 2008 12:38 pm PT

$8 for a new map, two new vehicles, and a number of new configurations for the new and older maps to integrate these new vehicles. Sounds alright to me. $5 would of been a little cooler, but given how large these maps are, and how much work they put into the various configurations, I can see where the $8 comes from.

Unfortunately, given that I'm so very much into Halo 3 still, I never picked up Warhawk, which is a damn shame, since I've played it before and it is a lot of fun. I just picked up Burnout: Paradise for my PS3, so I'm playing that at the moment. Though if I do have the time, I will pick up Warhawk. And this will definitely be on my list of things to buy.

Hey, if I can spend $10, to get a map that's only good in Forge, which should of been in Halo 3 in the first place, and two other maps that suck, and I never use. Then I can spend $8 to get this map, two new vehicles, and all these different, new configurations. I'm not knocking Halo 3, I love the game to death. I just thought the Heroic Map Pack was a complete rip off. I have much higher hopes for the Legendary Map Pack though. Blackout (Lockout remake) + Avalanche (loose Sidewinder remake) + Ghost Town (cool, mid sized original map) = awesomeness.

I have been playing this game since it's release and because of the update and the online community around that game ( it is the most talked game on PS3 forum ) I have a hard time playing anything else.
I have been playing video games since the release of the atari 2600 and i know when a game is out of the ordinary.
The balance of force the developers have been able to create between the weapons is amazing and every new pack as added something that is worth the 7.99.
In the next patch stat padding will be stop once and for good by disabling the drop flag function and that is a good thing for all the players like me trying to get point the right way.
I paid the 39.99 price for the download version and after the next pack I will have spent 56.00 dollars on that game and it has been worth every pennies when I thing that I still play the game as much as 7 months ago.
They could release 5 more packs I would probably by them all, the only thing that will make me stop playing that game is when warhawk 2 is available.
