GH: Aerosmith gets first tracks teased

"Sweet Emotion," "Draw the Line" among 40-plus songs in Activision's Guitar Hero tribute; Joan Jett, Cheap Trick also riffing.

Rhythm game peripherals aren't cheap, so it's a good thing the people who make them have been working to keep gamers happy with their purchase with fresh tunes. Whereas MTV Games and Harmonix have thus far built up Rock Band with a steady stream of downloadable tracks, Activision has by and large focused its efforts on creating all-new spin-off games. The first of these--Guitar Hero: Aerosmith--lets virtual rockers hop aboard Steven Tyler and co.'s tour bus on their storied quest for superstardom.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Aerosmith gets busy in Activision's latest rhythm game.

Today, Activision revealed the first details on what gamers can expect from its Aerosmith tribute. As previously noted, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith will feature songs from both the legendary rockers as well as a number of their contemporaries, and Activision said today that of the 40-plus songs in the game, about 60 percent will be Aerosmith signatures, with the remaining 40 percent comprising both classic and modern rock outfits.

Activision also gave the first indication of what songs will appear among that 40-plus track set list. From Aerosmith, songs thus far announced are "Make It," "Uncle Salty," "Draw the Line," "No Surprize," and "Sweet Emotion." As for coheadliners, Activision has picked up licenses for Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes," Cheap Trick's "Dream Police," Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' "I Hate Myself for Loving You," and a cover of The Kinks' "All Day and All Night."

With Neversoft developing the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions, Vicarious Visions handling the Wii version, and BudCat jamming out the PlayStation 2 game, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is slated to arrive this June. For a closer look at the game, check out GameSpot's fresh-off-the-presses preview.

I love Aerosmith. I am hoping for "Dream On," and their version of Come Together. I'm sure "Walk this Way" will be on it.

God i hate things like GH: aerosmith and Rock the 80's. although rock the 80's was ok. but they should just go up like..IV, V, VI and have different bands.

There will never be a guitar hero: Led Zepplin. You're about as likely for MJ to stop mollesting children long enough to give the rights away for Guitar Hero: Beatles.

This is all find and dandy and all I will probably buy this since this is one of my favorite bands but what I need is a Guitar Hero: AC/DC now that would be sweet especially if they put all their released songs on that I wouldn't mind a guitar hero: Led Zeppelin or Metallica but hey atleast it is not a guitar hero: Queen now that would suck I think they should make a Rock Band game like this but AC/DC

Let's hope this is a good one. I am not a big Aerosmith fan by any means, but hey if they are going to make a chain of Guitar Hero's based on particular artists, then THIS is what I would like:

    Guitar Hero: Metallica

Thats ALL you need, a guitar hero dedicated to a sweet band like Metallica! Lord knows I would love to try out Master of Puppets on Guitar Hero!

I Hate Myself for Loving You GH, especially if your $60 (it would be No Surprize though). All I ask is no more cover songs, that is where I Draw the Line.

How can anyone not be excited about this game. They are doing something new for a change and if all goes well opens up new oppurtunities like bluntman said in GH: Metallica!!! Honestly this game seems like they just wanted to create a fun game with aerosmith songs cause well I know I enjoy playing the aerosmith songs on the other Guitar Hero's. I don't mind if I have to wait for GH:aerosmith and GH4 to come and go to get GH:Led Zepplin or GH:Metallica. I'll be buying this game the day it comes out.

For all the people on he complaining about a game that has mostly one band... There is a reason it is called Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and not Guitar Hero 4. Although Aerosmith isn't one of my favorite bands of all time, I have been waiting for the band specific Guitar Hero games since the 1st one came out. This is just the beginning, soon we will be getting games like Guitar Hero: Led Zepplin, or Guitar Hero: Metallica, and if you have anything bad to say about a game like that, then you shouldn't be playing these games in the 1st place. These band specific games won't be for everyone and there will always be those of you who whine and complain about them, so ya know what... like others have said here, DON'T BUY EM. As for me, I'll most likely buy any game they put out... as long as they don't do a Guitar Hero: Country Music Stars game.

Bravo x_SuperMario_x Bravo, i couldn't say it better myself. they act like they HAVE to buy it or something, or that since it is coming out, the industry automatically takes your money out of ur bank account and into theirs. damn just don't buy the game. it is simple! and it prolly will have some songs as DLC, that way they can make more money, and have alittle bit of a teaser for GH:Aerosmith. i am just hoping maybe a new wireless guitar will come out of this.

and for the people that say OoOoO thats to much money for a spin-off game. Grow up and get a Job and earn money, it is not that its to much money ur just scared to ask ur mommy or daddy for money.

But then u will say if i have a job where will i make time to play these games i am buying. and thats when i say "welcome to Young adulthood, where u realize . . . .Time... SUCKS, it goes by way to fast.

  • zoe256

    Posted Mar 31, 2008 1:27 am PT

I wish they'd release this as DLC, I'd only want the Joan Jett song out of that lot so I probably won't buy it.

  • x_SuperMario_x

    Posted Mar 30, 2008 9:38 pm PT

wow, a lot of haters on this site.

here's an idea, to the many haters:
don't buy the god damn game.
this is an extra GH, this isn't GH4.

i may be one of the few people on Gamespot that are actually looking forward to this game.
and by going into a different direction with GH, they open up new possibilities.
but just because you don't like it, doesn't mean you have to complain about it.

And I've just realised that this might be something I want....While I have little no interest in Aerosmith, the same can be said about most of the bands in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, but I still love playing that... I think I might have to track this one..

Ugh, I so couldn't care less. GH3 had the better note charts, the better hammer ons/pull offs, the better guitar, and the better solo play compared to Rock Band. But they're gonna milk this game into the ground. Really disappointing.

  • SimsDevil

    Posted Mar 29, 2008 10:33 am PT

only 40+ songs... which can mean like, 42 in all technicality... man, it better not be full price for that or it's a total rip-off.

Wow, I can't believe they have gone in this direction. I've been playing GH and RB because of the VARIETY of songs and styles. I love the fact that I've come to like some of the music I poo-pooed growing up, and am equally stoked at the new stuff I've been exposed to. With these games, it's the set list that matters - period. Releasing a GH where over half the songs are from ONE band goes against everything this genre is about. I have no issues with Aerosmith, and actually like them. But there is no way in hell I'm shelling out $$$'s for a new/expansion of GH that mostly features them.

RB has it right with their weekly downloads. Not sure how GH has totally missed this boat. The DL tracks for GH are a joke compared to the flood of stuff coming out for RB. If Activision was smart, they would have released this Aerosmith and Co. stuff as download packs. But alas, it seems the finance dept. is running things there.....

    Let's see...

    Only 40 songs = FAIL
    Mott The Hoople/Cheap Trick/Joan Jett/The Kinks = FAIL
No word of Aerosmith songs anyone cares about, other than Sweet Emotion = FAIL

They DO realize that most of the people buying/playing this game will have been born after 1985, right? They're going to be buying it because it's new GH, not because they actually want any of these songs. Boy, I sure love Rock Band.

Fantastic. One little preview and video and GH Aerosmith is in the top ten on the front page and is the number one video. This is why Aerosmith was chosen. Everyone has their favorite band... but it is REMARKABLE when a band has THIS much impact. Enjoy your favorite band. It's a personal thing. But Aerosmith is one of those bands that belongs to everyone!

  • DbleBassDrummer

    Posted Mar 28, 2008 5:49 pm PT

Hey! Anybody remember the last time Aerosmith had their own game? *Shudder* In all seriousness, 40 songs isn't terrible, but I wish they were ALL Aerosmith songs. You could make 2 Guitar Hero titles out of Aerosmith's library and they'd both be great. Adding other bands is just going to make the experience feel watered down.

This is what happens when a big publisher takes Original Content away from the original creators and tries to do it themselves...they make shat covered versions of the same game and watch as the original creators go off and make Rock Band a game that is one of the best of the year and one of the greatest party games ever.

I was hoping Activision's move of telling Harmonix to fux off would come back and bite them in the arse, and it looks like with future GH games it is going to.

  • ChickenHounk911

    Posted Mar 28, 2008 10:44 am PT

This should have just been a download for GHIII, who ever likes Aerosmith, downloads the whole 40 song pack. That actually would have been a good competition counter to Rock Bands "Full Album Downloads". I don't wanna see 10 or 20 spin-offs of 'not so good' bands.

This should be Aerosmith only and it should have real hits like all the ones on "Big Ones" plus Get a Grip, Pink, and Dream On. Why non Aerosmith hits in an Aerosmith game?
