Turok PC dated, map pack revealed
Touchstone arming sci-fi dinosaur hunter for April 22 PC launch; Velociraptor Pack adding five new locales to X360, PS3 editions March 27 for $5.
Released in February, Touchstone and Propaganda Games' Turok may not have blown the minds of critics, but it has left an indelible impression on consumers. The publisher announced today that the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of the game have shipped more than 1 million units to retailers worldwide.
On the heels of that landmark, Touchstone had two other announcements for fans of Joseph Turok and his merry band of dinosaur hunters. First, the publisher said that PC gamers will be able to go Jurassic-style big-game hunting on April 22. Similarly developed by Propaganda Games, the PC version of the game will feature the same storyline as seen in the console edition and will pack in 16-player competitive action. More on the PC version can be found in GameSpot's previous coverage of the game.
As its second big reveal today, Touchstone took the wraps off the console editions' first map pack, which will be available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network on March 27 for 400 Microsoft points or $4.99. The Velociraptor Pack will add five new maps to the game's multiplayer component. The Inconclusive Tests and A Rivalry Continues will be relit versions of The Testing Grounds and A Heated Rivalry, respectively, where darkness falls and players will navigate new hazards. Of the three other maps, one will be geared toward the game's co-op campaign component, while the remainder will be all-new adversarial maps. According to Touchstone, PC gamers will be able to download the map pack shortly after that version's release.

I think they should make a mod where you can play co-op on story mode. That be great fun. co-op maps on Turok so far, are far to short...

Seemed most of Yahtzee's criticicisms of Turok were rather console specific, so this might be a goer on the PC - which is, after all, the home of the FPS. I know it ain't gonna set the FPS world alight, but it could be worth a few hours' brain-dead giggles. :-)

If the new co-op map has a t-rex, I'll buy it.

Turoks only downfall in mulitiplayer is the lag because it happens so commonly and ruins the game and every1 quits the match so i dont play it. but i might buy it because the coop maps were a good challenge with friends. another thing i dont understand is y they are redoing testing grounds my favorite map they should redo one of the big maps which were horrible

I liked Turok when I played it for the 360. I never bought map pack or other game content for a fee. I'm a patient man I can wait till there free.

I love the pricing, but I question wether or not it's worth it. First of all, it's hard enough to find people on PSN to play this game with as it is-- but then when you narrow the field even further by looking for people with the new map pack, it gets a whole lot worse.
I liked the new Turok game, but I feel like the multiplayer needed more razzmatazz. The massive amounts of customization in Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 make it kind of hard to go back to "This team wears gray helmets, and this team wears brown helmets."
Hopefully when Propaganda does Turok 2, they'll listen closely to the feeback they're getting from this game.

Cool. I dont own the game, but this is a pretty awesome deal for the money. Oh and lamprey263, if u played the game, youd know that multiplayer is the games strong point, and that probably no one will make a map pack that increases the length of the campaign, especially since people without live (or PS3 online) would be left in the dust.

Multiplayer packs for games where multiplayer isn't a strong selling point shouldn't be charging money for map packs, they instead should add to the main campaign to increase its length by 50% and maybe add the multiplayer map packs in as a bonus.

$5?!! That's a great deal for 5 maps, I mean, That's like 2 songs on Rock Band. Developers and Publishers take note: this is what a map pack should cost.

that's stupid that they can't just have the maps already on the game. It just came out not too long ago, it's just a money making scheme, I certainly won't get the map pack.

It's a great price point for the map pack, but who cares? It's Turok; Turok stopped being fun after Turok 2.

xchiefmegadethx,
I can't believe anyone can charge you for maps and you be happy buying (paying) them. Related to the game, I always loved Turok comics so I'll sure try the PC version. After all before Halo the only two FPS on the consoles worth playing were Turok & Golden Eye on N64.

I have a PS3, and I have two games for it (one came with it). I haven't played a game on it since the day I bought it. My PC is just far more capable in terms of graphics and performance, but the PS3 is good for watching DVDs and Blu-ray disks. As for Turok, a lot of great concept art went into it. I'm not sure if I'll buy it, though.

PC gaming is nowhere near dead, tons of players for loads of games.. even the san andreas multiplayer mod gets thousands a day with most servers being 80-100 players full at least 80% of the time.
and thats just a mod, games like HL2 & others on steam get tons.

I love the game, but its not worth getting the map-pack. Especially since it doesnt has split screen multiplayer as the previous Turok did

K I dont understand why people hate this game so much, its like the Kane and Lynch of 2008, but without the controversy.
It's a great game with some good visuals and awesome moments, and although I (and no doubt you) would not pay 59.99 for it, it's still a good game and worth at least a rental.
And as for the DLC, this game is very popular online so I can see lots of people buying this, and as ctg867 pointed out, its cheaper than most other map packs for other games.
