Supreme Commander stalls until summer

Aspyr and Hellbent's Xbox 360 adaptation of Gas Powered Games' epic-scale RTS bumped to "late spring to early summer."

It's shaping up to be a pretty crummy day for epic-scale gaming. Earlier today, EA Mythic said that it would once again be bumping the release date on its long-in-the-making massively multiplayer online role-playing game Warhammer Online. Now, the Xbox 360 adaptation of Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander has befell a similar fate.

Aspyr Media announced today that the Hellbent Games-developed Xbox 360 edition of Supreme Commander has been pushed beyond its expected March release to "later this spring or early summer." According to an Aspyr spokesperson, the extra time in development will allow Hellbent to further improve SupCom's gameplay on the 360. Aspyr announced in November that Hellbent would be handling console-adaptation duties for Chris Taylor's supersized real-time strategy game.

As detailed in GameSpot's most recent preview of the game, SupCom on the 360 will benefit from a number of enhancements, and see a few detractions, from its PC counterpart. Though eight-player multiplayer maps have been cut and a 500-unit cap has been imposed, Hellbent's adaptation promises the same sense of scale found in the PC version. The game will also include new units, additional multiplayer modes, tweaked maps, and will support multiplayer total war over Xbox Live.

Pushed back from May to **** June 19th. This sucks.
It better be polished to a mirror finish.

I played through all 3 campaigns on the PC and I still can't wait to get my hands on the 360 version (my PC can barely handle the internet). I could play this game forever.

this game might help out in the console vs pc RTS war, and show that you dont need a computer that costs more than your house

I was looking forward to renting this to see how the controls feel, and I'm sure that (unfortunately) it will have better graphics than my laptop. What's an extra month or two?

I can't wait to get my hands on this, my darn PC sucks. I loved Total Annihilation back in the day and this looks to be a good successor to it. I do, however, wish that Microsoft would allow us to use keyboard/mouse for the RTS games. Yes, the 360 controller has been good on C&C3 and LOTR, but it doesn't come close to the ability of mouse and keyboard. When playing these RTS games you need to be able to manage multiple things that no matter how well they engineer the controls on the controller (which they have been doing a marvelous job with improving) aren't going to measure up against the mouse/keyboard.

what do u people have against innovation? just b/c you cant see how it could work, doesn't mean it cant be done. a good port of a RTS to a console would be awesome. PC fanboys just see there last bragging point threatened. live and let live a-holes.
--FYI-- Game Fly now lists the release as 5/15

I could be wrong but I still think adapting an RTS for consoles means dumbing it down.

Well it's good that they're not rushing the game but they better use this time wisely to make the game the best it can be.

I was wondering why it disappeared from the soon to be released list. Well at least UAW will hold me over till then...

If the delay is going to make the game run a lot better then I think thats fine. If you are an RTS fan, Universe At War just came out for the 360

too bad but it was inevitable. Even powerful comps can't handle the game smoothly on higher settings when they have big battles in multiplayer(especially not . The cuts were obvious before this news. Hopefully they can still pull of some nice detail and performance.

"Hellbent's adaptation promises the same sense of scale found in the PC version."

Kinda hard to do that when you cut the largest map type and make the PC's 2nd lowest unit cap the 360's max. I'd favor UAW on the console over this with these kind of cuts.

The best of times, the worst of times. Standards are so high, but some of the games I'm waiting for are delayed just to catch up.

@TrailorParkBoy: What's wrong in releasing a console game? Just because he releases a game for consoles you think less of him now? You are pathetic! I have a good PC and 2 consoles and i like all 3 equally
