GT5 'about a year away'

Post on PlayStation blog gives the official word that the first full PS3 iteration of the franchise is still a long way off.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is nearing its release date in both North America (April 15) and Europe (March 28).

However, some gamers may be forgiven for wondering whether to splash their cash on the Prologue or simply wait until the full version of the game, Gran Turismo 5, is released.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue follows a similar concept as the game Gran Turismo 4: Prologue, which was released in Japan and Europe about a year before Gran Turismo 4. It gave gamers a significant taste of what was to come but fell short of being a full game.

However, those holding their breath for Gran Turismo 5 proper had better have a decent lung capacity. According to Sony America associate producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda, the game is unlikely to arrive much earlier than this time next year.

In answer to a fan's pondering on the Official US PlayStation blog as to whether or not to buy the game, Hinojosa-Miranda said, "To further clarify, GT5 is still about a year away. You should just decide now to buy it [Gran Turismo 5: Prologue], enjoy it, go online and race against anyone and everyone, rank number one worldwide, get the girl (or guy), and become the most popular kid in town. The end."

When GT5 comes out I hope the Case doesn't advertise that the game has over 600 cars like GT4 did when most are pieces of crap with less than 200 HP. Honestly the reason people play racing games is because we get to drive cars that we normally wouldn't be able to drive like Ferraris and Audi R8s and Nissan GTRs and F1 cars. If I want to drive a FORD TAURUS or an EAGLE TALON then I would walk down the street to the local used car lot and test drive one. This is a good racing series but they should focus more on race cars. Imagine a GT5 where all 700 or more of the cars are LeMans Race Cars, F1 cars, Grand-Am race cars, DTM cars, Champ Cars and super cars that each put out over 500 HP. A game like that would be legendary and would blow the competition away.

Prologue is only a visually updated gt4 game, all other racers have some sort of damage to the cars, where as this 40$ demo still has bad A.I. for the other computer controlled cars.

If you haven't played GT5 Prologue I recommend it now! yes It has way over 65+ cars I never acquired them all, and its a good start leading to GT5 with very real driving simulation physics as expected from the series, It will be March 09 probably before we get a taste of the full game because they are probably designing all new model cars, 700+ and with interior! plus more tracks and probably damage! it all takes time.

i got prologue and its no disappointment: its still got more cars than most of its rivals and the tracks are beautifully made. sure it's not the full game but it will still keep you amused til the full version comes out

At the end of the day 75 cars and 6 tracks would be a full game in most cases and thats it. The knowledge that this is just to wet your Appetite and get the practice in for the full game. Bought my copy yesterday £18 bargin. and the games great, 0_o

So....you buy a demo version and then get the real version later? Seriously fanboys, this is sooooo lame. Just send money to Sony with a letter that says. "Dear Sony, I work hard for my money but who cares. Here is some cash, I don't really need it. Thanks for being Sony. By the way, thanks for a next gen system that has a third of the games as the American version. Who wants to buy American anyway, besides, I can't buy American, I keep giving you money for...nothing."

This is a Japanese executive that said this? Lol, God bless Hinojosa-Miranda, Japan, and GT5 Prologue. I am now buying a PS3 ONLY because he made it seem less "stuffy".

Thats not a surprise. I mean when you think about what GT 5 is. And what is need to do compared to GT P. Anyone that has read loads on GT knows GT5 wont be just some racer.

    @LordReithgar
...Heck I bought Dragon Quest VIII in part because it had the FF XII demo inside.
    .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-..-.-.-.-.
I also brought DQVIII just for FFXII demo... and as a matter of fact i played first the demo a couple of times before shove DQVIII disc in my ps2... in the end DQ result in a excellent game that catch my attention for MONTHS, but that was not my intention when i brought it... i was perfectly happy with my $60 FFXII demo... surprise surprise.

Heck, warhawk cost $40 to download.... and the quality isn't comparable with prologue specs... prologue will offer much more then warhawk for the same price... i can't complain.

this is very nintendoesque in that they release two versions of the same game (ie. pokemon, nintendogs, etc...)

  • dmish82

    Posted Mar 27, 2008 8:25 am PT

There are so many bad facts on these posts that it's ridiculous.

    1) The game is NOT full price. Full price is $60, the Prologue costs $40. That is 2/3 of full cost.

    2) The game is $40, not $30. 3) 70 Cars, 6 Tracks, 16 Player Online Racing is NOT a demo. A demo would be one track, a car or two, and no online component. 4) You are not being forced to buy this game. If you can't wait for GT5 (much like myself), it's a very sizeable offering of the full version to hold you over. If you think $40 for what is more than most full release games is too much, there's a simple solution: Don't Buy It!!!

    --skee_uk --
What would be a superb deal is if they knocked the $30 off the price to "upgrade" to the full version for those that buy this.

Otherwise it's like paying $90 for the game.

    what demo?

    75 cars
    tuning
    6 tracks
    split screen
    online multiplayer gt-tv

all for £17, i think il certainly be getting this, no matter how many people try to put this down its a superb deal at the price.

what a superb exclusive to be released in 2009 full game gt5 - cant wait

I just got my GT 5 prologue, and I'm a very happy man. There is no car game like it. If you play it with a pad, your better of with an arcade racer, but use a steering wheel...OMG....nothing like it. Why is it a shocker that it will take time to make a game like this with almost 1000 cars??? Polyphony use several days, maybe weeks making one car.

  • LordReithgar

    Posted Mar 27, 2008 4:32 am PT

Peeps jsut have to remember here... that with every version of Gran TUrismo there has been a Prologue version. People pays for it because they are anxious to get the game. Heck I bought Dragon Quest VIII in part because it had the FF XII demo inside.

If we buy prologue and unlock loadsa stuff will that be usable in the full game when its released?
Or will you have to go through all the beginning empty pockets races again?

  • naz18h

    Posted Mar 27, 2008 3:14 am PT

$40 is not full price, $60 is the full price of PS3 games....but wait we don't actually use real facts on the internet...

  • Shmoe82

    Posted Mar 26, 2008 10:41 pm PT

When GT5 does come out, it better have all the stuff they said it was suppose to and the things they left out of GT4 because of the lack of technology the PS2 had. There better be thousands of cars, more downloadable, better course, the expensive cars better drive well unlike in GT4 (what was up with the 250,000+ dollar cars driving worse than the Honda del sol), etc.

i just bought my bluray3 only 2 days ago and i will certainly not be buying a prologue game. a version .5?? you have got to be joking. very poor marketing sony, that wont stop me using your machine for flow and hi def movies. i really believe that many ppl dont understand that its not the full game. its merely a cash cow, i think forza2 and pgr4 can keep me going if i must have a car fix till then on my beast60. sorry fanboys!

I think this is a really lame way to keep the consumers at bay. Sure lets give them half of the game that we've got working so far and just release the full game later, oh by the way we're charging full price for that first half.

  • Zoomer30

    Posted Mar 26, 2008 8:27 pm PT

I hope this does not set a bad precedent. Instead of releaseing a game you release kinda sorta demos of a game and make people pay almost full price for it. Come on, get the thing done alrerady!!!

Its a no win situation. You buy now and there is no real reason to get GT5 since you will know pretty much what to exepct. You dont buy and well....GT4 anyone?!

    Posted Mar 26, 2008 6:02 pm PT

I think this is just more good press for Prologue. GT5 is a year away, and if you want GT, you should buy it now while it's hot, because the next one's a whiles away. So now at least we know that there are still gonna be some hot PS3 games in 2009...

And really, anyone calling this a glorified demo is just being ignorant. The amount of cars, tracks, extra features, and songs for the soundtrack added to the game was done specifically for skeptical Americans like you guys, and you still give them ****. Give it a break. It's worth $40, if you don't want to play it, you can continue to auction the same pictures of naked anime girls on cars in Forza 2.

THIS IS NOT A GLORIFIED DEMO, IT'S A PROLOGUE. GET IS STRAIGHT.

It is funny when we review how people look at Gran Turismo. This franchise is probable the MOTHER/FATHER of all driving simulators. It has also become a renowned racing game... probably the game who brought the Impreza and the EVO to the states popularity... the first original idea before PGR and Forza... heck! A GT Prologue game is good enough for me! There is tons of material to milk away, online racing, and BEAUTIFUL graphics. Let's not loose that perspective. If some still want to compare others to the original, innovative, spearheading, true -REAL Driving Simulator... then let them talk... it is their GOD given right! We just don't have to listen.

  • TheRaiderNation

    Posted Mar 26, 2008 5:15 pm PT

I think that is shady charging for a glorified demo; regardless of how you look at it, its a glorified demo

  • AngelCage

    Posted Mar 26, 2008 5:07 pm PT

I can't call GT5 Prologue a demo, cause the quality and quantity of content simply put in shame almost every modern racing game out there. Yes is a demo of GT5... but that's cause GT5 isn't in the same leage as every racing game in existence... GT5 will be HUGE without any competitor...

I simply can't catch a fault or a misperfection in the car models in any screenshot or video that poliphony show to us to this day. 70 cars and 5 tracks with a MASSIVE online support don't sound like a demo in any way or shape...

But i think that prologue is a little overpriced... It should not be a free product in any way, but $40????

Something like $20 or $25 could be a lot better... with a $20 price tag no x360 fanboy in the world could throw crap to prologue... By the way, How much cost Warhawk????? cause both games should have more or less the same price... warhawk is a success in any way you want to see it (maybe not in sales, but i don't know) everyone who played it can say is simpley awesome and worth every penny it costs (if is priced under $40 of course...) So, if warkhawk is so good, being not a 'complete game' and if is priced in $40 or less... then maybe Prologue is just a little overpriced or simple have the correct price tag...

  • gimlifn

    Posted Mar 26, 2008 5:02 pm PT

Its more than a demo because it comes with online functionality. If you don't want it then wait for the full version but if you want it then it will be a very enjoyable taste and a good chance to give the developers some feedback.
