COD4 GOTY edition confirmed for US

Rerelease of Activision and Infinity Ward's lionized FPS ships out to retail on April 3 for the Xbox 360; Variety Map Pack adding four new multiplayer maps packed in or $10 on XBL.

Ever since its initial deployment during the first part of November, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from Activision and Infinity Ward has been peerless in the sales charts, wresting control of the top slot away from Microsoft and Bungie's Halo 3 and never looking back. With Activision claiming the crown of best-selling game of 2007 for COD4, the publisher will be stop-lossing the modern-day shooter for another tour with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Game of the Year Edition, scheduled for release for the Xbox 360 on April 3.

As noted by leaks from UK news outlets earlier this week, COD4: GOTYE won't include any new or upgraded features. However, it will come packed in with a redeemable token for the Modern Warfare Variety Map Pack, which will add four new multiplayer maps to the game's lauded online component. The four new player areas are: Creek, an open village area; Broadcast, a close-quarters in-door environment; Killhouse, an abandoned warehouse; and Chinatown, a low-lit map set in the not-so-war-torn city of San Francisco. Those who already own the game will also be able to purchase the map pack on April 3 through Xbox Live for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

In anticipation of the map pack's debut on Xbox Live, GameStop will be hosting a live preview event at two locations in New York City and San Jose. To the first 100 attendees will go a free token to download the Variety Map Pack, and the first 250 people to arrive will have a chance to compete for various prizes, including GameStop gift certificates.

Activision did not indicate whether the COD4: GOTYE rerelease or the Variety Map Pack would also arrive for the PlayStation 3 or PC, and had not responded to requests for comment as of press time. However, Infinity Ward did say on its official Web site for the game in February that the then-unnamed map pack would be available for XBL and the PlayStation Network this spring.

I just got the GOTY edition. It does not say anything about the maps. Or is there something that I am not understanding? Someone explain please.

I'm not gonan pay 10 bucks it shoudl be free!
that upgrade is not worth paying 10 dollars out of sixty dollars I paid for CoD4. its not even like huge uprgrade only maps ,still same gameplay but its too expensive 10 bucks for just maps!

Most of the people complaining are the little kids who don't have credit cards and can't buy the new maps and shouldn't be playing anyways.

First, I would not pay $10. Its not a lot of money flat out thinking dollars and cents, but it's not worth it no matter how many upgrades they make to a game...i paid my share. Imagine $10 from everyone on cod4 online! daaaamn! plus there are more and more games doing this and im not going to have $10 accumulate into $100 every time i want maps. Also, If you are going to re-release a game, with this as the only difference (packaging aside), shouldn't the people with the original game get this "update" for free? It should have came with the game to begin with much like microsoft's countless upgrades to windows...free, it should be. "To account for production costs of these maps"...um, i did pay 60 bucks right...inflation is up, prices are up...my salary is the same.....free!!!! America, get a better concept of money...

I'll pay my $10 dollars right away but i still wish that they were free I mean $2.50 for a map is a little pricey. And don't get me wrong its a great game. Pry the best game made so far.

OMG ten dollars is not alot of money.. this is one of the best games ever made and i will happily spen 10 dollars.. alot less than the 60 dollars i wasted on vegas2... and it will be free eventually if you wanna wait forever but ill buy em as soon as i can..........

i don't see what the big deal is. I'll happily pay $10. I've probably gotten 72 hours of gametime out of COD4 .....and it's not like COD4 is a ripoff 8 hour $60 game. For those that $10 breaks the bank.......well, either wait till it's free or keep playing the old maps. Or.....better yet, quit whining and get a job so 10 well spent dollars on a fantastic Multiplayer game isn't that big of a deal anymore.

I'M definately happy that we have new content. I love XboxLives DLC. I don't see why people **** so much about it. To me, it's just added game content at a reasonable price. The only thing on marketplace that I think is really stupid is the $3 themes and gamer pic packs......but even still, it's no big deal because I just don't buy them.

I might actually buy this since my disc just got annhialated yesterday when I accidentally jerked my Xbox putting in the ethernet cable, but then again 60 dolllars is a lot of money for a game I've already gotten so much play out of. I'll probably wait to hear if the new maps are fun.

800 points ($10) is definitely pretty steep, considering PC players will get these maps for F-R-E-E. Damn you Microsoft!

    k2theswiss "how is this greed?"
Well lets look at games in the past...CS for example was awesome. They went from beta to 1.6 without every charging players for new maps, weapons, skins...They didn't even charge you for the game necessarily, you could have bought HL and you got it for free. They had amazing support for the game and didn't charge a penny for any of it after the initial buy. However, companies realized the stupidity of gamers and decided to capitalize on it and they started charging because they could get away w/ it... I for one will not buy this crap, and maybe it'll be like halo and eventually become free

They should start rewarding players for playing their games, instead we capitalism at its finest !

Well 800 points seems a bit of a rip but I think for those of us who are addicted to the game will still pay the price, I suppose this would cover production costs (LOL)

All of the people wondering what the folks who bought this on release get:

You get all of the hours you've already spent enjoying the best multiplayer shooter to come out in a long time. The GOTY folks are starting from scratch. The new maps should totally re-energize the online game.

So wait a minute, if you supported the game from day 1, you have to PAY for the maps but if you were a non-beleiver, and chose the "wait and see" approach, you get REWARDED with a token for the maps? I don't get this...

    @delusional696:
The Halo map packs only give 3 maps each time so 4 maps is a step up. Plus COD4 is an awesome game whether you buy the extra maps or not.
