Rockstar to expel 360 Bully bugs

Publisher apologizes for crashes and other performance problems with Scholarship Edition of schoolyard scrapper, says a fix is on the way.

Bullies aren't well liked normally, but Xbox 360 gamers might have been particularly put off by Rockstar Games' Bully: Scholarship Edition and the game's unfortunate glitches. While a number of problems have been reported since the game's release earlier this week, the biggest is easily an abundance of crashes.

"We are very aware of the problems some people have been experiencing with the Xbox 360 version of Bully: Scholarship Edition and have been doing everything within our powers to resolve these issues as quickly as possible," a Rockstar representative said, adding, "We apologize wholeheartedly for the inconvenience that this matter has caused some owners of the game."

Rockstar is currently working on a fix for the problems that should be released through Xbox Live as a title update sometime within the next week.

I'm renting it, since last week, and I'm glad they got rid of some of the bugs in the game. This game kicks butt! I just wish they fix the loading. It's gets to be a pain if you keep on going into different rooms and stuff. And the perfects got to chill and relax. They always catch me everytime I push a nerd into the garbage can. XD

I really did enjoy playing "Bully" for the PlayStation 2 when I rented it from BlockBuster. I was quite busy at the time; however, from what I managed to complete in the game I thought it was done pretty well. With the 'Scholarship Edition' being patched and worked on, I have time before I purchase a XBOX 360. I hope Rockstar will make sure to clear out all the glitches and bugs. Along with that, this should be an opportunity for developers to take improving ports more seriously.

Rockstar games will always have glitches or crashes, because they rush their games way too much.

  • damacles

    Posted Mar 18, 2008 6:12 pm PT

Why? They swear they don't rush stuff or just toss it out the door. So shouldn't we expect the same quality they give GTA with ALL their games?

Assured GTA4 is there main concern considering its out in a few months, and if u think they will release it with Technical issues like crashes and lol frame rate drop(which alot of the latest games suffer with) you do not know who Rockstar are, tbh i would rather have bully crashing and shlt than GTA4 delayed or broken.

How about Gamespot contact Rockstar and ask them where in blazes is the patch? I've tried and gotten no reply or simple canned responses.

my game dont work for more than an hour, it allways crashes when i go to gym class, and its a pain when you havent saved and it just stops and crashes. even the cut scenes are glitchy the dude spins around in his school chair. sort it out rockstar, whats the point in buying a game and you cant play it.

at least they are not trying to make an excuse about it look at spark and their turning point game that was buggy( and terrible) they are saying that they meant for it to be that way. i believe rockstar will make a patch because they dont release very many games in a year and always make them good and i am sure they are not happy with themselves with this complaint

i seriously can't play this game with it glitching every five seconds ( either seeing someone flying in mid-air doing something weird or my character going around in circles) i wish i had picked up the Wii version.

  • dundee85

    Posted Mar 16, 2008 9:39 am PT

It's fine saying they're sorry and they're working on a patch but what about people who bought the game and are not online, Rockstar should offer a full refund to anyone who wants it.

And yet another day and still no patch. Yeah yeah Rockstar can say it finished the patch and it's at MS awaiting approval but until I actually have the patch loaded and Bully working correctly, then the patch is not out.

At they're doing something not like Vampire:Masquarede Lines or Pirates of the Carribean which just released the game full of glitches then didn't even fix the problem

  • Zazabar11

    Posted Mar 13, 2008 5:40 pm PT

It's nice to see the actually doing something about it, rather than turn the other cheek. But they should've tested it a little more so this would not have happened in the first place....

I really can't imagine how a game that crashes this often even gets released? With all those in-house testers, this must have happened hundreds if not thousands of times during the testing phase, no? I mean, I am only 18% through with the game, and the game has already completely frozen on me over a dozen times! No kidding, I only wish I was exaggerating. I understand that mistakes happen and sometimes software gets released with bugs, but honest to goodness, I just cannot for the life of me understand how this game got a pass to ship out! The only possible explanation I can think of, is that Rockstar consciously DECIDED to release it this way, figuring they would take care of it later, and that is just plain wrong. I am sure they must have had tens of thousands of copies ready to do, and it would cost a fortune to destroy them, but I think they should have done so anyway, as it is the right thing to do. What about those gamers that don't use XBOX Live and will never get the patch? What about those that don't go on the Internet and will never even know that this is a confirmed bug? To me, that is just unacceptable, and companies that practice this kind of business model ought to be ashamed of themselves. It is NOT OK to burn a anyone that you sell your games to for any reason, not even a single purchaser. NOT COOL rockstar. Let's just hope that after all this time GTA4 ships in a state where you can actually PLAY the game instead of worrying about saving after every single mission as I now have to do with Bully, just so I dont have to go back and do the missions all over again. Biology class is fun, but not three times in a row. This one is hard to forgive, if for no other reason than the glitch is so obvious and so rampant.

o_laggy_o, I'd hope their testers are testing the new patch There's no point them releasing the patch if the problems are still there afterwards. Thankfully I've not had that many freezes on my 6 month old 360 (one every 3-4 hours or so on average), but they always seem to happen at the most inopportune times.

Ahh, yet another day and still no patch! Gotta love Rockstar! Taking this long to fix issues that a beginner QA should have caught, well it has given me doubts about getting GTA IV.

  • geirdaniel

Its embarassing that Rockstar would put their name on a faulty game, especially on the 360. Have they fired all their testers?

  • sun_spirit

    Posted Mar 12, 2008 7:16 am PT

Well that's good, I got the game yesterday and haven't seen any problems yet, don't want my game to freeze on the last mission or something!

A few days ago, Kotaku posted a similar article, wherein a Rockstar rep' was quoted as saying the problem lies solely with older systems. I highly doubt that since I had some of these problems on my Halo-themed system. I mean, how old can that be?

Thing is though, after my first crash and upon restarting the game a few hours later, my frame-rate issues completely ceased and I played a few hours with no hiccups whatsoever. Because of that, I began wondering if the problems are primarily present in the beginning/first chapter of the game, or if this is some cache issue like the one some people experienced with Bioshock. Who knows? I hope they just get the patch out and this whole thing blows over.

Consoel games are getting closer to there PC brother. Soon updates and patches like this will be the norm. Especially since 2 out of 3 systems have a HDD connected to it. Next gen all systems will have HDD on all of them.

  • Hvac0120

Enough people are experiencing the issue to warrant a press release on the issue.

How does a game with bugs like this go "Gold" and get put to market? Shouldn't the testing have found this bug. I mean, it's crashing 360's. Just Cause did the same thing to my 360. I ended up selling the game and I never saw any title updates for the game to fix those problems. Bully is a good game, Rockstar creates great games, hopefully they know what is causing the issue and releases a patch soon.

Really kind of bothers me this trend of buggy console games. Just because the machine has a hard drive, doesn't mean the game should be less then perfect when it launchs. There should not be a patch ever for console games IMHO
