Metal Gear Solid 4 confirmed worldwide for June 12

Solid Snake's last ride set for the PlayStation 3 globally; preorder bonus DVD includes more than just beta access to Metal Gear Online.

The Guns of the Patriots are locked and loaded. Konami today officially confirmed the widely rumored June 12 North American release date for Metal Gear Solid 4, the series' belated debut on the PlayStation 3. Earlier this week, Sony announced that the game would arrive late in the second quarter, and would be available as part of a PS3 hardware bundle with the system and the new Dual Shock 3 rumble-equipped controller.

Konami first revealed the news at the retailer-only Destination PlayStation event in Scottsdale, Arizona, along with details of the game's preorder incentive program. Gamers who put money down for the game before release will receive a preorder package with access to the Metal Gear Online beta test when it goes live in late April, as well as a bonus DVD titled Metal Gear Saga 2.0. The DVD includes a prologue that recaps the series' intricate and winding story, a 20th anniversary retrospective, character bios, and trailers for Guns of the Patriots.

Gamers who pass on the preorder pack will have to wait until the retail release of Metal Gear Solid 4 to get in on the online action, given that the Metal Gear Online Starter Pack launches with the game on June 12. UPDATE: Konami has officially confirmed what it has long promised; June 12 will not only see the game hit shelves in North America, but also the rest of the world. This will come as a relief to European gamers in particular, who have had to wait six months to a year after the US release of recent MGS games to get their hands (officially, at least) on Solid Snake.

    the reason i got a playstation 3 is about to finally be a reality in one hour. i have a final tomorrow in college but i know how to prioritize...i will stay up till 6 A.M. playing this, rush through the final, and jet home and lock myself in my room...BEST SERIES EVER

    For the record: I`VE JUST ORDERED A 40GB PLAYSTATION AND MGS4!!!! THIS GAME ACTUALLY MADE ME ORDER A PLAYSTATION!!!! I wouldnt resist reading the review and seeing a perfect 10 and knowing i dont have where to play that game... I`m just THAT EXCITED!!!!! P.S: I also order my playstation 1 for MGS !!!!

    I tried playing the Metal Gear games several times without ever giving them an honest chance. The MGS4 trailers had me hooked, and 3 months ago I finally played through 1, 2 and 3. I'm EXTREMELY excited already, only being a fan of the series for a short time.
    Sorry for the anecdote. But seriously, less than half a day now.

    It started for me with Metal Gear (Nintendo 8-Bit) and now the long and winding road brings me to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots (PS3)
    The series deserves its legendary status and is one of my favorites. I have been waiting patiently as we all have and now it's happening tomorrow!

    Hmm, I cant stop looking at the adds around the Melbourne trams in Melbourne.... big and shiny MGS4 for PS3... I dont even have a PS3 and i am going overseas for 3 months... oh boy I so want badly this videogame. I will have to buy it when I come back in 3 months lol

    Metal Gear will be here next week thursday. I been gamin all my life and I swear to playstation that I never wanted any video game as much as I wanted MGS. I mean think about and we've all experienced this. Seeing the very first pictures or article about the newest metal gear being released. Than being teased wih a 2-3 minute trailer in the first few months in japanese language lol. Than as the release date draws closer we start seeing 15 trailers in english language plus game play footage LOL. This has been one series were so much hype has been put on this game and it always delivers leaving us wanting more. True fans like myself will purchase the special editon. And I have to buy the solid snake blue tooth ear piece. Give thumbs up if u agree. Peace

    Bah, I didn't actually pre-order but my friend did and his beta key didn't work... There wasn't even enough numbers on the key to enter it. Robbery ! But at least the final product will more than make up for that.

    Well....with that news, I now have about 2 weeks to raise enough money to preorder and buy MGS4 and buy a PS3.

    At least everyone will be able to experience MGS4's greatness at the same time.

    Actually gamespot has already given out four perfect 10's so MGS4 wouldnt be the first.

    You should really check out alone in the dark 5, now that does look good, the interaction in that game is simply outstanding.

    No, thats what you call a badly optimized game, i guarantee that this game will not pass the 25 hour mark in terms of game length...i'm very pessimistic of new games, they never deliver what's promised.

    I am going to preorder it when I pick up SSB: brawl on Sunday. MGS 4 will be one of the top five games of the year in my opinion along with gears 2, resistance 2, super smash bros brawl, and Re5 if it comes out( otherwise I'm looking forward to dark sector and dead space). Can someone send me a message about whether mgs 4 has online or do I have to buy a separate game?

You can play it on FPS, BEHIND THE SHOULDER CAM like on RE4, and even play it on the SUBSISTENCE perspective. And the things and interaction that you could do in the game is insanely good that would make you amaze every time you play it. I even heard that MGS4 would come on 2 BLUE-RAY disc..now thats what we call a BIG GAME.
