Wii Fit priced for Europe

Nintendo's flagship exercise title will be hitting the region for £30 more than the average Wii game, coming with Balance Board bundled in.

A week ago, Nintendo dated Wii Fit for Europe, saying the exercise game would arrive April 25. Today Nintendo added a price tag to the game as well. Wii Fit will sell for £69.99 in the UK and €89.99 in the rest of Europe. The game will come bundled with the Wii Balance Board, which acts as a controller for the game and also calculates a person's body mass index.

Wii Fit features four different exercise types: aerobics, muscle conditioning, yoga, and balance activities. Minigames, which include holding still in a yoga pose for a certain amount of time, ski jumping, and walking across a tightrope, are included.

In Japan, Wii Fit was released on December 7, and comes bundled with the Wii Balance Board for ¥8,800. Wii Games generally retail in Japan for around ¥2,000 less; for example, Super Smash Bros. Brawl costs ¥6,800.

Wii Fit will be released slightly later in the US on May 19, and has yet to be priced in the region. However, retailers are accepting preorders at a price of $69.99.

The price is ridiculous compared to the US. 90 euro's = over $140!!

I, strangeley, don't think this game will do as good for a couple of reasons
1.You'll probably need 2 balance boards for decent MP games.
2.It has a 50% chance of being stuck in the attic/under the stairs in a month.
    3. Many ppl willl take this game as an insult if given as a present.
    4. I feel it isonly for casual gamers, not for any hardcore fans whatsoever(unless they enjoy a session of yoga to cool down after a 6 hour COD4 romp!)

I think that if Nintendo had waited untill the olympics and made some kind of interconnectivity(new word?) between this game/peripheral and the olympics they would have something powerfull enough to take over the entire world, esspecially since there are so many obese americans- no offense!

Of course it would be Europe before the US. Europe is populated with more people having less of a trauma jumping onto a scale.

Besides, wonder if the mat is going to have the same awesome precision as the wand? Anyone?

Are they gonna release a waterproof power supply now so I can put the Wii beside my bathroom scale?

We are all aware that the UK and US economies are different and in the UK we fully expect to pay 30-50% more than the US for stuff... but this is about 95% more than the US are paying, which is exorbitant imo. I'm not paying £70 for it, £60 I will consider, £50 OK. Hell, the entire console was only £180, I'm not paying £70 for one game and a pressure sensitive mat.

At $69.99 I must be able to import it to the UK for less than the UK price in pounds, that's rediculous. Current there are $1.985 to £1.00 that means in the US it's almost half the price! I won't buy it for that money!

Is Canada or Mexico getting Wii Fit?
    Other Regions pay to much.

The_Dude1212 can't agree with you more.

So.. it appears our (U.S.) weak dollar has influenced their pricing strategy.... Anyone agree?

This seems a bit high, espcially when we get it for £70 and Americans appear to get it for $70 (which is about £35!) These games companies need to give Europe (and Australia) fairer release dates, and fairer prices! It's getting a bit ridiculous now.

I don't care about the price, it's about the experience. Right now, I don't own Wii, but probably I'm gonna buy one.

Staff discount here I come I reckon I can get it for £52.50, seems ok to me

  • kavadias1981

I just wanted to add that I could buy 2 and a half regular Wii games for that (I buy online so I pay about 27.99). I'm thinking No More Heroes, SSBB and Mario Kart Wii instead of this?

  • kavadias1981

In a poll done by IGN they found that over 85% of gamers will not pay that price for this. Also I personally believe that the non-gamer will be seriously put off by such a high price. The game itself is only Wii Sports quality so it should be priced at 20 quid, like BB academy or something, and 30 quid for the board. 70 quid is just plain extortionate.

I was going to buy this but Ninty have lost themselves a sale with this and I believe that this game is going to flop now, big time!

Hmmm, it would seem that they may have been watching those shopping channels when coming up with a price for the thing.

Still if it's fun and able to motivate the obese in our society - you know the ones claiming it's in their genes to be chunky, then it's a small price to pay. Considering the alternatives of these some are useless others having long-term health issues and the rest being plain bogus.

Outrage. We're paying double what the americans are paying. Yeah if you compare the price tag to normal game prices it's an okay price, but compared to what every other region pays, they're just takin the mick.

...Is it that hard to call it North America? Canada is getting it too, you know!

    Along with Mexico.

"twoism" No the price is really good!! Normal games for Wii cost £35-£40 and 360/ps3 games are £40-£45

"In Europe BEFORE the US? That hardly ever happens"

Yeah but they're only doing it to try and appease our wrath for the lack of smash bros. I heard it isn't coming out til autumn.

Also, £70 is way more than I was expecting. I was probably going to get this but I'm not so sure at that price.

    £70 in the UK
$70 in the US 138 approx dollars - we pay double what the americans do (you lucky people you)
I love the 'real' price difference - i hate the UK

Wii is the cheapest system but then to play the games you need to buy these extra accessories which just bring it up to the same price as the other systems. >_>

Oh well. I know I'm not buying this. I'll be happy with SSBB and MKWii.

Why would retailers accept pre-orders if they don't even know how much it will cost? That just seems like bad business to me.

this price seems unfair and unjustified. Why should the US get it cheaper than Europe and Japan by a significant amount? At least we're getting it a bit earlier though.
