MGS4 solidifying in June, Dual Shock 3 rumbling in April

Konami's stealth-actioner to be available stand-alone, bundled with 80GB PS3, rumble-equipped controller; Retailers list ship date as June 12; New Sixaxis arriving two months earlier for $55.

As Hideo Kojima's "final" installment in the Metal Gear Solid series, Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is uniquely positioned as one of the most heavily anticipated PlayStation 3 titles from a dying breed of third-party console exclusives. Today, Sony revealed via its PlayStation Blog that Metal Gear Solid 4 would arrive on the PS3 in late Q2 2008, which runs until June 30. The news comes as part of the Destination PlayStation retailer conference, which is currently under way in Arizona.

While Sony wasn't more forthright with an exact date, retailers, which sometimes leak release dates through online listings prior to publishers' actual announcements, seem to be under the impression that the game will surface in mid-June. According to listings on Amazon and GameFly, MGS4 will take to the streets on Thursday, June 12, while GameStop has the game slated for Tuesday, June 17. Publishers typically choose to release high-profile titles on Tuesday in the US.

To promote Metal Gear Solid 4's release, Sony also revealed the game will be available as part of an 80GB PS3 bundle. In addition to the game and system, the bundle will include a Dual Shock 3 controller and will retail for $499.99. Presumably, the Dual Shock 3 will replace the Sixaxis controller currently available in the $499.99 80GB SKU.

Similar to Microsoft's use of Realtime World's Crackdown to hand out keys for the Halo 3 multiplayer beta, Sony also said it will be guaranteeing access to Metal Gear Online's multiplayer beta test for those who preorder the game. The test is expected to commence in late April.

The Destination PlayStation conference also yielded an update on the Dual Shock 3, which Sony officially took the wraps off of during 2007's Tokyo Game Show. The much-requested rumble-equipped, motion-sensing wireless controller will arrive in North America in April at the price of $54.99. According to Sony, more than 100 PS3 games will be compatible with the controller, including Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank Future, and MGS4.

    I am a big 360 lover/owner but now that blu-ray and all it's crap-tasticular glory has "won" the war I can see A LOT of people just thinking about getting a PS3 feeling the pressure with this bundle... should be a good one! I put in my pre-order just yesterday

    This is the best PS3 offer by far. -Do this with FF13 at $399 and I could buy one on impulse. -Of course this bundle will alienate a lot of people who got stuck with a 40GB PS2-less model.

    i hope to god that the 80 gb bundle is in the uk aswell i cant stand the 40gb and its lack of features, i hope that if the 80gb does come to the uk its the usa's 80gb sku and not the 40gb sku with a bigger hdd

    The limited edition MGS4 has gone up for preorder! Get em fast, when they say limited, they mean it. It will come with a blu-ray dvd with documentries, stories, a sound track, and at gamestop, If you preorder, an art book. I would suggest that if your a big fan of the series, you get it. It will be 25$ more then the reg(85$), A good way to remember the end of the MGS series. And since this is the final chapter, Expect it to go out with a bang!

    Finally I have a reason to buy a ps3 and all bundled up with all I want. No cruddy little 40gig or 20gig and It'll have a rumble controller. By the way a real gamer plays on all systems and appreciates all the great games each system offers.

    This is cool to know but I've already purchased my 80gb PS3 back in December, although in retrospect I wish I would have waited to get this sweet bundle. I personally can't wait until I get this game. This game was one of the main reasons why I wanted the PS3 over the 360. At least the wait isn't as indefinite as it was 6 months ago

    Smart way for Sony to sell more PS3 systems. Bundle package with MGS4. But, there is no way in the word I would be waiting for MGS4 to come out before I buy a PS3. PS3 is a great system. SO it would be foolish to wait this long to buy a Station. MGS4 is gonna be sick.

    well, i already own a 60GB PS3. so, i'll just pick MGS4 and the Dual Shock 3. hell, what am i saying? i'll "just" pick... FINALLY, i'll get to play MGS4 AND with the Dual Shock! isn't this exciting?! =D (can't wait for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and GTA IV too)

    i can see tons of PS3s (and the bundle) being sold...wait and see.

    actually i have a ds3...and its the same size as it usually is...the only thing unique about it is whatever side you get shot or hit on....is the side that rumbles more

    80gig!? Cool man. I've got a 60gig PS3 so Im happy with that. I just cant wait for MGS4... Its 98% of the reason why I got a PS3 anyway ... the other 2% is that im a playstation guy anyway.

    if you are buying a ps3 for metal gear 4 you are crazy for D.A.M.N sure ..this game is good as hell i like it ... anyway i dont have a ps3 so i dont wait like you all..but i played it on ps2 and really i liked the story very much even i did not like the camera cause it was locked. i am enough now with splinter cell on my 360 as a subsitute

    Hmmm... let's see. The only reason I would buy a PS3 for (so far) is MGS4. On the other hand, I wasn't going to get a console until it shipped with DualShock3 included. So now I have only one thing to say: YEAH! The PS3/dualshock3/MGS4 bundle is EXACTLY the thing I wanted, and now I only have to wait for it.

    Well it might become like final fantasy how they have lots of games but different main characters for most of them. This is only the end of Snake, not metal gear. I know this game is going to have a crazy ending but it'll probably lead us to another game in some way.


    Bleachhollow-I think Kojima should start on a new ip if anything,i mean Metal Gear has to end eventually or it will become dull and redundant.Im personally looking foward to what his next project is going to be about.

    I am glad that Sony finally got its act together. I buy a video game system to play video games. Not for movies. There was no way I was going to blow 500 on a system with no good games and no 'rumble' but with them addin g that and including Metal Gear 4 with it I will probably end up with it sitting next to my 360 in June. Now its a good deal, even with the price tag.

    Dude, it has to end. Kojima knows what he's doing and wants to finish it up. One big reason he said himself was because he wants to move on and do other projects. The one he has not actually said is that maybe, just maybe, only snake's story is ending and Metal Gear will go on (in a way) even if it's not called MGS.

    MGS3 was arguably the BEST game on PS2, period. the chills i got from duckin thru forests, volgin's torture chamber, eva, the theme song, the graphics.....

    some ppl are sayin MGS4 wont be as good as the hype. but when it comes to down to it, Kojima Productions has always come through and delivered. i can honestly say, im buyin a PS3 when this comes out. case closed...
