Metal Gear Solid comped for PS2

Konami preps three-game package of Solid Snake's previous missions to help gamers prepare for Guns of the Patriots.

While Solid Snake may be a master of stealth, there's very little chance of his next proper excursion, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PlayStation 3, making it onto shelves unnoticed. Despite that, Konami is stoking eager gamers' interest in the game with today's announcement of Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for the PlayStation 2.

The Essential Collection will compile the original PlayStation edition of Metal Gear Solid along with Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, both "director's cut" versions of the PS2 games. The compilation will sell for $29.99, and will feature commemorative packaging designed by series artist Yoji Shinkawa.

Konami did not announce a release date for the game, but online retailer GameStop is expecting it to ship in mid-March.

    I think I must buy this game! I just got MGS4 and I want to play through 2 & 3 again. And since I never played the original I would love to play that as well. Thank you Hideo!

    i just got it right now because of mgs1 and a better copy of mgs2. god i feel like i got ripped off, but at least now i'm guaranteed to copies. i got ripped off a couple of years back when eb sold me one disc of mgs1.

    Just bought this a couple days ago... can't for the life of me remember what I did with my original copies of MGS1 and MGS2.

    And Amir, this is only playable on the PS3 if you have a 20GB, 60GB or an 80GB. People like me who picked up the 40GB have to use our PS2's.

    Hey Heavy Games... Yes, you can play this on your PS3. You can even use a feature on the PS3 that will smooth out those Jaggy edges amking it (a little) more eye pleasing.

    It will be the original MGS of Psone or it will be upgrated with better graphics and correct some mistakes of the original version?(e.x the square of the text of MGS twin snakes which Hideo wanted to add to the original or the word 'Sanek' instead of 'Snake' somewhere in the text when you put the second disk of the game)

    for a start Konami should rename the package where mgs3 suppose to be the beginning of the story for the mgs series.

    As for mgs 2 i really wish the gamecube version is included but then to port it bck to ps2 sure will take time.

    nevertheless my ps1 is not working anymore. it'll be a blast to play on ps2 though.

    thank god the 60 gig plays ps2 games including the game shark lol but why the ps1 version of metal gear can't they get the flashier gamecube version oh well i'll take what i can get

    Yeah it will but only if u BUY A 80GIG..NOT THE 40.. I made that mistake...ps2 games will NOT work on a 40 **** up if u ask me). ONLY 80

    This game / collection sounds awesome, I was thinking of waiting till MGS4 to get a PS3 but i'd love to play through these 3 first. Will this game work on PS3 or do i need something special?

    It means that it's the way that Hideo wanted us to play the game. Director's cuts are almost always better than the studio release.

    I've been wanting MGS 2: Substance for a while but it's been $25 at Gamestop, Ill just get this. I have the remake of MGS1 but not the original just have to dust of my PS1 memory card lol. And I guess another MGS3: Subsistance wont hurt im not trading in my MGS3 LE for nothing though!!!

    This is great! I find it funny how I've played and beaten all three Metal Gear Solid games, but I only own MGS2. This is a perfect chance to pick up all three.

    i bought and played all these games used not too long ago and paid less than 30 bucks -- plus i got to play the Twin Snakes version of MSG1.

    hopefully Portable Ops + will be ported to PS2 soon as well. would like to play that game but not at the price of a PSP.
