Brash revs up Saw for '09

Publisher's tie-in to Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures horror movie will feature original storyline and will launch alongside next film in October 2009.

One of the first projects hinted at when Legendary Pictures CEO and 300 executive producer Thomas Tull and media mogul Bert Ellis secured $400 million in funding to form Brash Entertainment was a game tie-in to Lionsgate's macabre Saw horror film series. Today, Brash officially announced that Saw will arrive on "next-gen platforms" alongside the next installment in the film franchise in October 2009.

Details on Saw have yet to be puzzled out, but Brash says it will be collaborating closely with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures on the game. While it will tie in to the Saw universe, the game will have its own storyline that will attempt to fill in some of the backstory of film antagonist Jigsaw, as well as clear up some of the unanswered questions left by previous installments in the film series.

Brash has licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 for Saw, though a developer has yet to be named for the project. Updates on Saw can be found on the game's Web site, which also launched today.

    mmm I love the SAW films but I will only buy this if it seems ok. Maybe you will play a game that kind of like Riggs or something close to that.

    Really, I honestly thought this was stupid when I first saw this. Now looking at the comments, I'm surprised.

    I absolutely hated Saw 1, there are only like, 1000 things out of the billions that could make me watch Saw 2. Each night since I watched Saw, Jigsaw's been hiding in my closet. Okay, that's kidding, but I was scared to death on the first night.

    I have serious doubts I'll like this game. But I may give it a chance.

    @ blackphanter king kong made a good game but games such as Goldeneye 007 and The Warriors was excellent as well and the answer as to why they keep making movie-based games is as simple as money.

    they should make this game for all of the series they made like this is from the movie saw 1 and then if they make another game saw 2 and so on

    This will be the best movie tie in game and horror game ever! The Unreal Engine 3's graphics are outstanding, and with them using it in SAW, it's going to make it look realistic. Bring on SAW!

    That is just HORRIBLE! That film makes me get the shivers, way more than the most violent videogames like postal and manhunt.

    Saw 1 and 2 weren't bad. If you totally dislike horror or excessive violence, then your not going to like them period. However, the Saw Series really went downhill with Saw 3. That was just a bad movie. I can't comment on the 4th, but the 3rd certainly was not good.

    Also if the Condemned series can give quality gameplay, why can't this? I found a lot of similarities between the first Condemned game and the Saw series. I'm sure it was an inspiration for the developers of parts 1 and 2.

    The plot is the Saw series is actually very clever, intelligent, and involved. To simply call them gore fests wrongs the entire series. You have to look past that to truly appreciate what a fine tapestry the entire plot is. So many details to pay attention to spanning all 4 films along with a 5th one that comes out on 10/24.

    Personaly I didn't really like any of the Saw movies, they wern't scary. Just blood fests. I'll admit that the first one was Ok up to the point with the chick who escapes, but after that it became a downward spiral in to hollywood poo fest. But I would like to see how they are able to make this into a game. But I hope it can carry on a psycological scare like the one I felt playing Silent Hill for the first time.

    The first Saw movie bas amazingly good. Every other Saw after that has been awful...I love horror flicks, but they just get dumber and dumber every time. At least they are better than Hostel.

    I remember someone in the forums years ago suggesting that Saw would make a great game and he got flamed. Maybe he got so pissed, he decided to make one.

    So, when's Saw 10 coming out? I hear Jigsaw traps animals this time and puts them through the same repetetive motion of traps and nastiness, but this time they wont actually try because they're animals! Pretty sweet, huh? I'm soooooooo anxious >___>

    I actually like all the saw movies. I'm looking forward to the remaining 2 or 3 movies. But this game might just screw everything up. How could u put this movie into a game?

    I'm surprised that new industry upstart Brash decided to take on a questionable license like this. While I like survival horror games (which I assume this would be) they are not necessarily the biggest sellers on the block. Brash needs a few early home runs as they cement thier reputation and I wouldn't bank on Saw as being a sure thing... not by a long shot.

    Ugh, these Saw movies come out every year. I'm so over them. A game won't change that.

    I'll stick to playing stupid Saw inspired Forge maps in Halo 3 thank you very much.
