Sims 2 finds FreeTime

Seventh expansion to EA's virtual-life simulator adds focus on hobbies and leisure activities to original game on February 26.
By Tom Magrino, GameSpot
Posted Jan 17, 2008 1:32 pm PT

With EA busting out the Sims franchise into its own label as part of the restructuring the publisher underwent in June, sequels to its flagship franchise aren't likely to dwindle out anytime soon. And while virtual-life fans might have to wait until April 2009 for The Sims 3, EA continues to keep the channel fresh with expansions and items packs for The Sims 2.

FreeTime is the seventh and latest fully fledged addition to The Sims 2 family, and carries a due date of February 26 in North America and February 22 in Europe. As with other expansion packs to the Sims 2, FreeTime carries with it a host of new additions, this time centered upon edifying new hobbies and leisure activities.

In addition to the expected array of new outfits and items, FreeTime will open up new ways for players pursue the interests of their sims, as well as open up five new career paths: oceanographer, entertainer, architect, dancer, and intelligence agent. Sims will also be able to pursue new leisure activities, including reading books or becoming a food connoisseur, as well as quantify exactly how happy they are through a new life aspiration meter.

As with other Sims 2 expansions, FreeTime will require the full Sims 2 game.

The dual aspiration lets your sims have 2 aspirations example family and romance. What I'm looking foward to in this game is the new location, new neighbors, new hairstyles, the new customible train set,the genie and of course the double aspirations.

There are so many Sims expansions about, I wish I wasn't a sucker, I've got them all! I wonder what this new aspiration meter thing is about...guess we'll see soon enough! I think this expansion will go well with 'teen style stuff', as your girly teens can do ballet etc.

This expansion is sounding to be even more game changing then Seasons was. That dual liftime aspiration and new aspiration meter really has me wondering how player's gameplay styles are going to change. At least I have a month of time to convince my wife that we need to buy it; I'm still getting the "evil eye" from her for buying that PS3 last weekend.

Always getting better. Though I think I'll have to hold off, if The Sims 3 is coming out in a year.

Hmm...Most of the EPs sound good, but this one DOES seem to have a lot of stuff in it.

Hopefully whoever it is that's managing the business end of The Sims gets fired or something so they don't try to remove almost ALL of the EP content for The Sims 3 like they did last time...stingy economists...

This game expansion for the sims 2 looks awesome! I've been playing sims games since Simtown came out for Mac. I love the sims games and I love cars so being able to restore an old car in my sims game is going to be soo much fun! I look forward to this expansion coming out since it will be six days after my birthday. Happy Birthday to me!

Hope EA and Maxis have'nt mucked the code around too much with this one. Sends the modders wild trying to make their stuff compatible every time a new EP is released.

You've gotta' laugh!

You know, if you don't like the series don't add a comment here. I hate the Halo series with a passion and I can't comprehend why people play it, but you don't see me trolling their boards or articles about it.........grow up, especially those who thing leaving a witty comment makes them "cool".

Hopefully when Sims 3 comes out it'll have most of the Sims 2 expansions' additions within the game rather than leaving holes to fill in with legions of expansions as we lead on to the inevitable Sims 4.

man... finally you are able to spend and fill your free time, with... freetime...
you dont need to performe relaxing and kreative tasks anymore yourself,
you can just watch your sim, repaering the car, driving AC-cars and doing all the funny stuff you miss... cause you are looking in your screen, watching a SIM having free.time...

woohooo ... its like x-mas and b-day together...

Exactly... Will be the same with Sims 3. They release a bunch of expansions of stuff that should have been in the game in the first place. Not really interested.

With the amount of EP's my friend gets me (he works at Wal-Mart), My computer's going to just crash with all that data...and just in case you really want a magic EP, or the closest thing to it, check out ModTheSims2.com, and enter Magic in the search box. PS- You need to be a member, but it's free
PPS- I am not giving them props or advertising for them...just trying to help

Too bad when The Sims 3 comes out nothing from The Sims 2 expansions will be in there just so they can sell it to you again.
