Gears of War turn to toys

NECA set to bring Epic Games' Xbox 360 hit to life in action figure form; Marcus, Cole, and a Locust drone to make up first wave.

War is not a game, but apparently it makes for good playthings. NECA today announced that it is making a line of action figures based on Epic Games' Xbox 360 shooter Gears of War.

Set to debut in late spring, the first wave of the series will feature three figures: Marcus Fenix, Augustus Cole, and a Locust drone. NECA has not fully detailed future plans for the Gears of War line of figures, but did say this was only the first collection in an ongoing series.

NECA released a pair of teaser images of the Marcus Fenix toy, and promised that the final versions of the toys will have plenty of articulation, detail, and game-accurate accessories.

At this point, NECA can be considered an old hand at bringing gaming properties to life in the form of collectibles. The company has also created action figures for God of War, Hitman, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, Legacy of Kain, Resident Evil, and Castlevania.

PriorChaos: Take it easy man, we all know that both enemy & ally AI is naturanly awfully bad. But you know what? Thats what the player character is for! They shuldn't take all that nice fighting away from us shuld they? If you do think so then well, go watch an action movie and maybe we all end up happy somehows..

Vietnamgamer: Shoot, that would be fantastic! A Lancer 4 real! I sure hope the army does these guns for real when such an event would ocour, I wouldn't mind to chainsaw another unlucky bastard after the "happy" ending of "Manhunt"..

Haha, yea bradtastic, a Lancer airsoft gun would be awesome! Even though it has bright blue lights on it, and the sights are really weird, it would still be cool, why? because your gun would be the only one with a chainsaw bayonet! Even if it didn't work it would still scare the S*** outta someone lol!

ENOUGH! alright cole train this cole train that... anyone ever realize how terrible cole train is or how the AI controls him? i can't count how many times playing as dom that mr.cole train landed a grenade right next to me, and if you don't know, grenades from ally or enemie STILL HURT!... so shut it about him he's terrible, not cool at all, ok... lets take the stereotypical black hero... make him have a history in sports... oh yeah give him a gun and a bunch of grenades and a **** AI... there's cole for ya

I still think that the Lancer Assault Rifle would make a kick-ass Airsoft gun and would sell really well. Heck, even a non-firing "mere" replica 1:1 would sell really well. Much cooler than these little toys, though I'm sure that there's a market for them. After all, 10 year olds buy action figures and that's the age that we want our youth to play GoW, right?

Has anyone else noticed the irony in the comments that equate action figures = immature? With the average age of a gamer around 30 now, all of us here on Gamespot know that video games are no longer just for kids. Likewise, a high-quality action figure (to me) is like a tiny work of art, and whoever sculpted it surely feels the same. Besides, the price for a high-quality figure is a bit more than your typical Power Ranger crap.

Call me weird, but there's just a tactile joy in being able to hold a tiny replica of a character, versus just a poster or artbook. And how else would we learn that Master Chief is lousy at his own game? lol

    Ugh... NECA.

Who sculpts these things? McFarlane Toys layoffs?

Who approves their sculpts? Stevie Wonder?

Has anyone ever actually seen their figures in the store? Their Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield figures were awful. So were their Shaun of the Dead, 300, John McClane, Kill Bill, etc....

They don't even try to capture the likeness of the actors/characters.

I'm surprised that it's taken this long for someone to cash in on making toys from this very successful franchise. Someone's about to make a lot of money.

I know a reason for what I could use these.
I could use them as modeling figures for scetching and inspire me for armors, clothing, body positsion, play with light and see how the shadow(s) fall etc.
so if I could, I would try to buy at least 1 of these

why would anyone old enough to play GOW buy this? And why would any parent who has a child to young to play GOW get their child one?

Chances are it will sell though. But really, people buy this? I would rather use my money for games. Not little figurines.

Does anyone else find action figures (and lets face it most peeople grow out of them about the same time they grow into the opposite sex) of 15-18 rated games and movies slightly disturbing. I mean how can anyone (even if you are an adult who is still into this stuff) argue that this isn't marketing violent media to children?
Ps. I'm a long time fan of adult matieral in games and I want them to stay that way.
