Resistance 2 revealed

Game Informer confirms top-rated PS3 launch game will become franchise for Sony's rising console.

As is the case with most batches of platform-launch games, critics weren't especially kind to the titles that debuted alongside the PlayStation 3. According to Metacritic, the most consistently well-reviewed launch title for the platform was Resistance: Fall of Man. Developed by Ratchet & Clank creators Insomniac Games, the title blended science fiction and Harry Turtledove-esque alternate history, portraying an alien invasion of England in the 1950s--after World War II didn't happen.

According to industry-research group NPD Funworld, Resistance was a solid seller, moving nearly 791,000 copies domestically as of November 2007. Little wonder, then, that as rumored, the acclaimed game is getting sequel treatment. The February edition of Game Informer reveals that yes, Insomniac is hard at work on a sequel, tentatively titled Resistance 2.

According to the magazine, Resistance 2 will support two campaigns, multiplayer battles of up to 60 people, and eight-person online co-op play. Unconfirmed reports say the game will support three character classes--including a heavy weapons, special operations, and the all-important medic. It will also incorporate vehicles, including the alien-built Stalker, which will have cloaking abilities.

    I'm looking forward to the rumoured 60 player multiplayer with this one, with great graphics and weapons. one of the best games ever!!!

    I cant wait for this game. i have fall of man and i am still playing although i've had it for weeks. It is awesome!!!!! i even heard a rumor that there might be resitance 3 same time next year. if so then I CANT WAIT

    just to add something else when people come out with games for all systems x box holds the ps3 game back this is only for ps3 so x box wont be holding it back

    And also to add on to what PS3_RULEZ said... if anyone is going to be able to do what you said about bringing out every ounce of power that the PS3 has and blowing away anything the 360 is capable of it will be Insomniac. They are one of the (if not the) best game making companies out there. I firmly believe that. They know how to use the hardware inside the systems they work with and they know how to do it well.

    Resistance 2 will be awsome... you can count on that.

    from what i read in game imformer, this is the only ps3 game that actually taps into the unforgiving power of the playstation 3. ive seen screens of the game whie it was still being tested and it looked as good as, if not better than, halo 3 graphics. and it isnt even finished yet. this game is going to use the ps3 to its full potential, and that means it will have better graphics, higher frame rate, and faster loading time than any 360 game. the only way to compare 360 and ps3 is to compare the exclusives, and this games looks better than any 360 exlcusive ive seen

    Cleaver426: the trend for games to be realeased much later here in nz is steadily declining. more and more games are being released here within a week of thier us release. atm, it depends on which platform the game is on as to how long of a delay we get and as a lot of games these days are now multiplat, and not all consoles are region free then there will of course be a delay to enable them to be released on all thier platfroms at once

    For newzealand games come out ages after the real release. I went for a visit their once and geese Haze is,nt coming out till may!!! Prices are also way huger.

    Resistance 2 doesn't come out until Fall 2008 so I'm guessing Resistance 2 won't be out until at least December 2008 for New Zealand, man we get the short end of the damn stick when it comes to games!?

    I've heard the subtitle under Resistance 2 is United we Fall, and that it takes place in the U.S.

    This game looks real nice from what i see, and hear, and 60-online multiplayer, HOLY **** thats insane!
    i can't wait for this game, even if its basicly the same as the first one, witch i dont think it will be, i'll still love it , Resistance for life!

    OOhhh boy can't wait for this to come out loved the first one, this one looks like it will blow it out of the water! Let's hope so! Finally getting the hang of the cell processor.

    Looks like they vastly improved the texturing. Means they must be getting the hang of ray tracing assistance with the Cell? Or maybe just using all the cores more efficiently, while putting the texture load solely on the RSX. Either way, it looks clean and finished, almost as nice as crysis (I think the lightning is actually better then Crysis, at least on High) This will compete head to head with GoW2. Slightly different games, but either way, this is going to be a good year for the PS3. Blu Ray won, and a lot of developers are starting to embrace the Cell. . . We are seeing some very pretty games coming up. (Killzone 2. Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Force Unleashed (albeit is on 360 with compressed textures), Final Fantasy XIII, and Haze) I already preordered this game just from reading Game Informer. Looks amazing, hope it plays as well if not better then Resistance:FOM.

    Looks pretty sweet. My only question is, with the massive multi-player and co-op options, where is Hale gonna fall into the story. We all know in the first one your partner was not included (was a one man show) I look forward to seeing how insomniac carries the series. Definitely excited!!

    I agree with Gurflob.
    Not enough FPS's released have co-op, offline multiplayer.

    I LOVE playing and re-playing the Resistance co-op with friends, and I am looking forward to this release!

    Loved the first, love the sound of online co-op and love the new badass look of the chimera. Hope there's lots of massive explosions and that the beginning scenes will be a bit more dramatic than in the first one. I believe there are a few new chimera like the chameleon which will have cloaking capabilities. Hope there are more new chimera and some huge ones which require a lot of skill to kill.
