Beautiful Katamari rolling to Europe

Xbox 360 iteration of the quirky universe-in-a-ball game coming to PAL regions in Q1.

Europeans were worried it might never happen. Looking back, the very first Katamari game--Katamari Damacy, brainchild of oddball game director Keita Takahashi--never made it to European shores.

The sequel, We Love Katamari, was released in the region on February 3, 2006, but since the release of Beautiful Katamari on October 16 in the US, there has been no official word on a date for the game in Europe.

Atari today reassured those gamers that the game would indeed be coming to Europe--and although it doesn't have a definite date, it will be sometime in February.

Beautiful Katamari is the first game in the series to leave the PlayStation brand and travel to the 360. The game promises more of the same addictive rolling action and soundtrack, as well as feature a host of multiplayer options. Up to four players will be able to battle it out to roll up the biggest Katamari, and a range of "suitably Katamari-style downloadable content" will also be available.

Does anyone else feel the King in Beautiful Katamari talks way more than he should? Especially when you're trying to roll and this text really blocks your view, but then like he just doesn't shut up; notice that?

Great news, I was starting to give up hope that it would be released over here, considering all the UK 360 magazines have stopped mentioning it, and there hasn't been any Marketplace content that the US and Japan has been getting.

Why? This has to be the worst game I have ever played and that includes the horrible Bruce Lee game on the original xbox.

Publishers who do simultaneous release (or at least within a few days) still get the most respect from me. Super Paper Mario was about 3 *months* out of sync in Europe and was released so close to mario galaxy (couple weeks away) that I didnt even bother with it. Their loss (and partially mine too) Shame.

It's about time...now they just need it on the ps3 and wii so they can actually make some money off of it.

Excellent. Thought this would never see light of day over here, and neither the Japanese or US versions were multi-region, so good to know its finally coming.

Awesome. It's nice to see that these days Europe is left out less and less when it comes to releases.

Beautiful Katamari is a fantastic game, if not a great step forward for the series.

I saw listings on gogamer.com for this to be released on PS3 in April of 08. Has anyone heard about this? I thought this was remaining a 360 exclusive, but with Sony's increasing installed base, I figured it was possibly true.

I love the Katamari games too (even though I'm no good at them). But if you have one, is there a compelling reason to want to get the others?

Downloadable content for the game could be fun though. It would be cool to see topical (e.g. current events) elements getting rolled up into the ball, like 2008 presidential candidates and delegates. Take that, Dennis Kucinich!

Lucky for those who own 360s in Europe. One heck of a game they got. Love the Katamaris on the PS2.
