Fury PvPMMO now free

Australian developer Auran announces that its recently launched FURY PvPMMO will be free to download and play.

Australian developer Auran today announced that its recently launched player-versus-player massively multiplayer online game (PvPMMO) FURY will have its subscription business model overhauled to make the game free to download and play.

The news coincides with the introduction of the game's first free content update, "Age of the Chosen," due to be released on December 14, 2007. The patch will add a new "Carnage" game type, a one-on-one elimination mode, bug fixes, and seven new maps amongst other features. Most importantly, the content patch will include a new player category called "Chosen" alongside the existing "Hero" and "Immortal" subscription types. The new "Chosen" player type will be free to download from the developer's Web site and play, and gives access to all game modes and weapons as well as 400 abilities that can be unlocked by playing. Gamers will be able to upgrade their account status to one of the higher levels by purchasing a box copy of the game from Australian retailers, which increases the speed at which in-game currency and items accrue, as well as alters the player matchmaking tool to find competitors with similar ranks and skill levels.

"FURY was built around giving players options that suit their play style and their wallets," said Tony Hilliam, Auran's CEO, in a media statement.

The move comes less than two months after the game's October 2007 launch and a US$2 million dollar tournament to promote the title with sponsorship from PC hardware manufacturers Dell and Nvidia.

This is a REALLY bad game, I'm assuming the only reason they are making it free is because no one is willing to actually pay for it.

So that's why I'm only allowed to have one undeleteable character? That sure sounds like "options" to me.

That sure didn't take long. I guess going into administration can do that. They are still selling trial versions for $2 lol.

I would hate to be one of those people who bought the game not long ago when it released.

Fury is not terrible.... Imagine Unreal Tournament in an RPG environment. I have definitely played worse games this year.

I doubt it's as bad as y'all say it is. Maybe when it costed money U could complain (should've waited like the rest of us!), but now that it's free all U can do is inform THEM so that THEY can make the game better. All you're doin' is releasein' your anger in a nonconstructive way. Be Smart...Don't Be A Retart. -_-
Anyway, I'm gonna try this game next month, by then it should have alote of the bugs fixed. This game is probably pretty good if U can get around the graphical issues. I CAN!

Who ever put the game code together with the application and GUI was a **** idiot he totally bodged it must have been in a rush. This free content patch will smooth it all out and make it more playable. Guild Wars is a load of crap in comparison.

Being an Aussie, it saddens me to see this happen. These Auran guys put their blood and guts to make this game work and they had a tenth of the budget that is usually graced upon other International projects. I'm gonna stick by them till the end.

I guess if the bugs are fixed this is worth a try..but now days there are just too many games that are either free or really inexpensive, that are very entertaining.

So even making a game free, doesn't do all that much.

Well, last a checked, Free doesn't end the "sucking" that this game has been doing since it came out.

I am HUGELY disappointed that this game is bad. I really wanted a great PVP/RPG experience. Still waiting.

Friggin game was a rip off n the beginning thats why the complaints. 50 bucks to play, then you needed a monthly fee to actually progress or get in game help or even to sell something in the AHs. But on the box it said you never had to pay to play. Bogus, shady marketing, and even free, its not worth it.

Just because it's even mentioned doesn't mean you people have to bash it. Honestly...did the game wrong you in any way? Did it insult your mother and punch you in the face? Did it fill your PC with viruses? It's just a game, people. Chill.

Sad. The combat system is innovative, fast paced, and a lot of fun. If only the game didn't have queue times reminiscent of lines at Disney Land during the summer.

hmm....even this isn't enough incentive to get me to play again. i was unfortunate enough to pre order this damn flop of a game...only to be left disappointed and pissed off (see my review to know what I'm talking about). it was a great concept but they screwed up so badly. well see if there new expansion makes it worth wasting time on.

Ahhhhh, yes developers, marvel at the glory that is the MMORPG, it will give you endless amounts of cash for almost no work.

This game isn't even out half a year and it's already free? Looks like those hundreds of others won't do much better.
Maybe developers will go back to, say, making games?

Huh...so, they're taking their retail title...and allowing players to just play for free with no real restrictions to speak of? Does this seem like a bad business idea to anyone else?

By the way BoogieManZero, what could you possibly have against Gamecock?

EDIT: Hmmm. I stand corrected. Free characters are severely nerfed, to the point of almost not worth playing...sheesh. Why, why, why?

  • MXVIII

    Posted Dec 11, 2007 11:45 pm PT

The game flopped. But I would like the combat aspects to be implemented in MMO's like Star Wars Galaxies, and Maybe World of Warcraft. Theres a F2P online game called Rappels Epic 4 which has a combat system more suited for WoW, that would make the hack n slash aspect more interesting instead of repetitive. But a good developer could surely make the fury fight system work for SWG.

I knew sooner or later they'll go F2P with the option to B2P, but I give them 2 more months and then discontinuation or F2P completely with microtransactions
