Report: Ghostbusters game plays out 'third movie'

British magazine reveals details about the game based on the hit '80s movies--just don't cross the streams...

If bustin' makes you feel good, then it looks as if there's a treat in store for gamers in the recently announced game being developed by Red Fly Studios for the Wii, reports UK Nintendo magazine NGamer.

The mag has the first firm details of the title, and says that the game will be set in 1991, two years after the events of the film Ghostbusters 2.

The game will have 10 or so single-player levels, including the streets of New York during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, a library basement, a graveyard, and "Lost Island," along with four-player co-op and competitive modes, and a series of minigames.

Multiplayer modes include two-versus-two battle mode, where the team that catches the most ghosts wins, or another where you just damage as much furniture as possible. There is also domination mode, where players have to control a series of artefacts. Minigames will include Shuffleboard, Ghost Trap, and Proton Packs.

The famous, fluffy Marshmallow Man also puts in an appearance, along with the Ectomobile, and the creepy woman in the library from the first film.

Ghostbusters is currently expected to zap in for a Christmas 2008 release, and will be coming to the Wii, DS, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Rogue Shadow0618

Why would it take place before the first? Before they first used the proton packs? Before their first personal ghost encounter?

Why is it that I remember one of the previous stories on this game saying it was to take place BEFORE the original movie?

I hope this game lives up to its potential. I love Ghostbusters, and a properly executed game could be amazing! Plus, the Wii is the perfect system for this!

They'll keep making games for PS2 as long as there are millions of them in households around the world. I wouldn't worry though, all Sony's first party stuff is focused on PS3 nowadays anyway.

The fact that they will still be making games for the PS2 in Christmas of '08 is mind boggling. This game isn't even coming on the PSP but will make a showing on the PS2. Wierd. If Sony continues to support the PS2 that deep into the PS3 life, it can only hurt them. The fact that they removed BC with PS1 & PS2 games out of PS3, it gives people more reason to buy a PS2. Sony needs to stop shooting itself in the foot if they want the PS3 to succeed.

I just hope the wii won't be a tacky motion control add on and be a fully seperate style of the game. This game could rock if done right.

I think the first videos from ZootFly that leaked at the beginning of the year looked MUCH better than the "official" version from Sierra... I hope they get it right... I love this series, and would hate to see it reincarnate in a sub-par action/movie game...

First of all, it's not going to be like the NES Game. In fact, this version is going to go side by side with the ones that were in the movies. So it won't be crap, unless they want to hurt the fans that grew up on it. And to the person who didn't pick up GameInfromer magazine where there were pictures, it does Slimer and didn't you even read that Staypuff was going to make appearance. Gezz, people these days don't look up anything anymore.

This game will either be faithful to the source material and wind up being ignored by today's youth. Or it will alienate the original fans by being a modernized piece of trash like the Transformers movie.
