First Halo 3 add-on detailed

Heroic Map Pack set for release next month, includes three new multiplayer arenas for Bungie's first-person shooter.

Halo 3 has already set records at retail, and it might get the chance to make some new benchmarks in the downloadable content space as well. Microsoft today announced that the Xbox 360 first-person shooter will receive an array of downloadable multiplayer maps, starting with a Heroic Map Pack on December 11.

The Heroic Map Pack will include three maps, and will carry a price of 800 Microsoft points ($10) when it debuts on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Standoff is an outdoor map designed for midsize games, while the Rat's Nest is an indoor map with an emphasis placed on vehicles and intended for large-scale team skirmishes. Finally, Foundry is an industrial warehouse level designed with the game's Forge mode in mind.

As with the multiplayer map packs for Halo 2 and Gears of War, the Heroic Map Pack will eventually be made free to download. Microsoft has said it will drop the fee for the three maps in spring 2008, just before the next selection of new multiplayer maps becomes available.

Dabears 87, Reason why prices go up is people with a mentality like yours. Its not whether or not we as consumers can afford the game , its whether the product justifies the price Prob if a new chapter added to the main campaign or a new add-on the changes game dynamic aka new weapon or vehicle.

It's a steep price, but I'm sure the clones will cough it up.

CrazyRabbi you dont know what your talking about, not everyone is as cheap or poor as you. With inflation over the last 3 years since halo2 $10 aint **** Maybe for you cause you've gotta ask ur mommie but for real people w/ jobs its not much. $10 is less than 3 gals of gas! I cant wait for the new maps especially since they'll be able to forge and edit everything in the map its not just like getting three its unlimited editing.

No matter what you puppets say, $10 for 3 maps is terrible. Halo 2's first map packs gave us 2 free maps and 2 maps for $5. That's 4 maps for $5 and now Halo 3 is giving us 3 maps for $10? That's weak, out of these 3 maps most of you will probably only like 1 of them. Most the maps in Halo 3 are not that great, everybody knows this cause you hear it all the time. 11 maps to start with plus 3 more for 10 bucks gives us 14 maps where COD4 gave us 16 maps to start with and most of those maps are actually good which is why everybody on everyone's friends lists jumped ship.

Bungie will probably only give us 3 more maps when this becomes free for another 10 bucks which is sad considering it's the last Halo and that will be it.

I am really Exited about these new maps. Me and like 16 other kids at my school will all be buying on the day it comes out. oh and if your having doubts...it is definitely worth the $10 dollars. The warehouse map is going to be sick. You can now make your own map without anything to block your objects way.

I know you just payed $60 for this game, but everything now is getting more expensive. what does a fast food meal cost $6-$7 that lasts about 10 mins when this last hours and hours ( if you like the game!) $10 is nothing anymore. they said that they will be free. if you can afford $60for a game you can afford $10 for some maps. if not wait and not complain!

Ok I've got to be honest I haven't played Halo 3 in a while. Infact I don't really feel motivated to. Has anyone ever manage to find the camaign's flamethrower in multiplayer deathmatch mode? I haven't why not expand the number of weapons available in multiplayer deathmatch mode to include the flamethrower? I know they aren't going to make bots but heck I'm throwing that out there

Sonicare, the problem I see with Halo 3 are the current maps and $10 for 3 maps is a little to much. Anyone can say I'm whining but I'm not helping the cause for this to go on. Not complaining is the reason why you see ads in games while the price stays at $60.

  • sonicare

    Posted Nov 21, 2007 8:06 am PT

For everyone whining about the 10$ price tag, you should just recall what happened with the Halo 2 map packs. They initially charged for them, and then later, gave them away for free. I waited for them as well as most of the users. If people are just dying for new maps, they can pay for them. For the rest of us, they will be free.

i'm not going to pay money for 3 new maps. it's a shame that downloadable content is mainly being used to squeeze any extra bits of money from gamers. halo 3 doesn't have enough maps which is partly why i don't play it anymore and i'm not paying 800 points just for 3 maps, if it was a decent amount of maps then it would be another story as for pc gaming? i have always prefered playing games on my sofa in front of my TV rather than in front of a desk and pc. always have and always will

  • TeamR

    Posted Nov 20, 2007 8:06 pm PT

@ENDOT12123 - last I checked, when you buy a pc it does a little more than just play games. Hence the price.

But yeah, i'm just glad my gaming platform of choice is the pc. You wanna know the real reason why Halo games take forever to get ported to the PC? Because microsoft can milk 360 users for $60 +live subscription +$10 map packs for a mediocre shooter. They know that wouldn't pass on the PC. Advertising a map pack to the average pc gamer would result in, "$10? For 3 maps? Naah, i'll just make my own"

  • BelatedNoob

    Posted Nov 20, 2007 6:57 pm PT

Wow, there really scamming you here. You first have to pay the fee for the game. Then they make you pay the $10 for the 3 new maps. If you dont wanna buy them, you can wait till next year, but then there will be a NEWER map pack out...whoa, there really forcing people to buy buy buy...

  • jk80

    Posted Nov 20, 2007 3:56 pm PT

i've paid money for my game (which doesn't have enough maps in the first place) so I don't think I'll be paying more for these maps, or not that much at least

yh but pc gaming all together is more expensive, like for a real good pc like an alien ware or an xps run in the thousand pound price mark then if any time they need up grading thats even more, but yh i wont be gettin them maps till they free, cuz to be honest now cod4 is out how many of us are really gonna be playin halo all that much anyway

  • markevens

Paying for new maps... I love being a PC gamer where great user created maps are available for free. You won't see anybody paying for new UT3 maps, unless it is for the PS3.

  • andrew62

people are talking about Microsoft because they are the people that slap the $s onto these maps - because they own xbox live and have the rights to, bungie said they would try and get them released for free. however, im still going to pay for these, i dont agree with it, but i will anyway because i want the maps

Compare what Halo 3 offered for its price tag against ANY game released this year. I don't think anyone can claim that Halo 3 was a game that was light on content. Like it or loathe, there was SO MUCH in there!

800 points for three new maps. Fine by me. If you don't wanna pay, don't pay, but don't start whining about "having to pay more".

  • nibble_couz

    Posted Nov 20, 2007 12:43 pm PT

and now that you bring paying bills into the picture, don't you think the people that made the maps have bills to pay as well??? they're not rich, in case you guys are dumb enough to realize that, and in case you haven't heard bungie is not longer with microsoft so microsoft has nothing to do with maps and their release so why is everyone talking about microsoft?

Dude they still own the rights to Halo 3 of course there still going to get money off of it. 10 bucks such a stupid ammount for 3 maps wtf ms get your act together.

    Posted Nov 20, 2007 12:33 pm PT

Hold on, if it's $10 then that makes it £5 right, so why the hell does it cost us £7 ? What is the extra $4 for? Do we get a bonus map in the UK or can they not convert currencies correctly yet.

You have to wonder why these weren't released with the game. It's only been 2 months since launch. Smells like microsoft saw a chance to make a lil extra and tool it to me. Might buy them but will have to wait for 360 to come pack from repairs anyways."

It doesn't take half a year to make a few maps and test them. Sheesh people freak out over stuff you don't expect everyone knew it was going to be like this get over it either pay for them or wait for them and quit complaining.

Chickenhunk - first of all people only paid $120 for this game because they wanted the extra features and bundle packs - second you hear of supply and demand? obviously since there is demand for this new map pack they are going to charge money (and also the fact that for map packs you pretty much need them to keep playing this game) - and also there are 11 maps right now, not 8 to 10

  • schmitboy1990

Why everyone's complaining about the prices of these maps, i don't know? If you think about all of the resources and all of the time that it has taken to build the maps you can justify a small fee. I think that its fantastic that Bungie are still trying to create the best possible first person shooter that they can.

  • DonutTrooper

I think the maps are a little pricey for me, and I know when they release them for free it will be a time I'll be so cought up in the PS3's Q1 lineup I won't be bothered.

Don't get me wrong, I was first in line at the 12:01 Halo 3 launch, and I have a video to prove it. But there are a bunch of games that will wipe Microsoft's slate clean when the year flips a new number. Not just Sony, but SSBB, anyone?

Although I wouldn't mind too much buying these maps, I'm not too anal with my money. But I think it's about time map prices dropped down a couple bucks. But getting Microsoft to charge less is like getting Apple to let 3rd party hardware developers make their own Macs.

    And WTF Tim_dlleo?
If you're on a GAMER site, what are you doing telling gamers to go out and do something? What are you doing right now? Oh right, keeping your ass on the same couch as everyone else, telling us to shut up.

  • Tsunami_pt

"Um....lets check yes moron. Halo 3 still has sold more then CoD4"
Just because it sold more doesn't make it better. A Ford Mondeo sells more than the Bugatti, this doesn't make it better. Also, it has been out longer.
