Alone in the Dark spooks Wii, PS2

Nintendo's new-gen hardware and Sony's legacy console join Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of Atari's survival horror action game.

Last week, Atari candidly stated in its tardy first-quarter filing for fiscal year 2008 that it may not be able to dig itself out of its current financial hole. However, with its future projects shrouded in uncertainty, the beleaguered publisher has apparently not thrown in the towel just yet.

Today, Atari announced its upcoming survival horror action game Alone in the Dark will appear on the Wii and PlayStation 2 in addition to already announced versions for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Whereas Eden is handling development duties for the previously announced platforms, Atari has tapped Obscure II studio Hydravision for the Wii and PS2 versions of the game.

Alone in the Dark on the Wii and PS2 will follow the same plot of the current-gen versions, where gamers will attempt to make it through the night as infernal forces are loosed in New York City's Central Park. While the two latest versions will contain most of the gameplay and features detailed in GameSpot's previous coverage of the game, the Wii version will take advantage of remote and Nunchuk controls to interact with the environment.

Alone in the Dark is currently slated to creep onto retail shelves in February 2008 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Atari did not indicate whether the Wii and PS2 versions would launch in tandem with the others. It has not yet been rated.

    i think anybody who plays something on xbox360 or PS3 starts to underappreciate a last-gen console like the PS2...i mean looking at GTA:SA the graphics werent all that spectaculer but many people love it...its stupid for anyone to judge a game by graphics....unless Frame Rate iz slow.

    this is the only problem with nintendo deciding to make the wii weaker than other consoles, we just keep getting crappy ps2 ports

    this game has the most avmazing physics engine I have ever seen on the 360. Hope its as good on the wii

    For some reason I too have faith in this game. It sounds really cool and the trailer, amazing stuff.

    thats means a last gen game as it will have to be developed for the weakest ( the ps2 ).

    Ohhh this definitely spices things up... I was going to get Alone in the Dark on the 360 for sure, but now that its being released for the Wii.... That's might tempting...

    I am going to get the PC version and the Wii version. Alone in the dark wii version = best controls in all versions

    Alone in the dark PC version = best graphics in all versions

    If it makes Atari some money, then I'm all for it. These guys got money issues, and this should help that. Even though the PS2 version will be poor in comparison, and the Wii version will be mediocre at best, if it give them money to make more games, then I'm all for it.

    Might as well make a PSP version while your at it. Just make the PS3/360/PC come out in Feb 08, then bring out PS2/Wii/PSP versions on Mar/Apr 08. Word of advice, stick all three games to a $40 price point, don't make the PS2 or Wii versions $50, that's a bad idea.

    Gamestop, stop ****ing around and fix this quintuple posting problem we've been seeing over the past week now. On the lighter note....Alone in the Dark...sorry, not my cup of tea. Kind of feel sorry for the developers who work at Atari, though...soon it will merely be a resumé quality.

    A genre that benefits so heavily from advances in visual fidelity, lighting/shadow, and atmospheric effects... I'll take the PC or next-gen console editions, thank you very much. You can only work so many current-gen miracles with this game's chosen art style.

    Why have 5 people given my last comment 5 "thumbs down"...lol its true, this is old news and play.com were saying it was coming out on the Wii for months now....so how am i wrong?
    Or is it just the case that these comments/boards on the site have become the haven for fanboys who start to cry and negative mark anything that goes against what there saying....how sad.

    A game thats not a E.A every year sequal on ps2 :O maybe i shouldnt have brought a ps3 but i love Rachet and clank to much lol but this news sounds bad from my point as a ps3 owner as its saying it seems some ps2 owners are not bothered with ps3

    I hate seeing PS2 and Wii in the same sentence. Just scrap the PS2 version and focus exclusively on the wii.
