Geometry Wars: Galaxies gold, dated

Mathematics jumps into the trenches on Nintendo's Wii November 20; DS version follows November 27.

Two years ago, one of the Xbox 360's standout launch titles was Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, a $5 downloadable game that helped establish digital distribution as a viable delivery service in the console space. Having done that, the franchise is now turning its attention to brick-and-mortar retailers with a full-priced follow-up in Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the DS and Wii.

Helping launch that attack on retail will be Vivendi Games division Sierra Entertainment, which today announced that both versions of the game have finished development and have been sent off for duplication. Geometry Wars: Galaxies is set for release on the Wii November 20, with the DS edition to follow on November 27.

In addition to the Retro Evolved game, each version of Galaxies also includes a campaign mode with more than 60 planets, power-ups, new enemies, and multiplayer action. Those who own only the Wii version will be able to download a version of Retro Evolved to their DS systems, while each version will unlock bonus levels in its counterpart.

Both games have been rated E for Everyone. The Wii version will retail for $39.99, with the DS edition fetching $29.99. For more on the games, check out GameSpot's latest impressions.

There is no point to bring this game to Wii, it meant to be on xbox and it should stay on xbox. I rather have something interesting to add without taking away precious memory space. Unless the proceeds are directed towards cancer research or help some poor kids in America, otherwise no thanks. ew..

Am I the only one who didn't get addicted to Geometry wars for xbox live, this may be a good rental though for my Wii(and no I'm not crying about the price or anything I just didn't like the original game that much).

Man, I want both games. Why can't they just pack them in together with a lowered price? I'll get the Wii version since I can put Retro Evolved on the DS.

This is still one of my favorite Xbox live arcade games. It especially looks brilliant on my 52" widescreen. I have high hopes for the Wii version as well but what worries me the most is the controls. This game feels right at home with the dual analog sticks and am not sure if the Wii-mote would cut it . The drop off in the Wii's resolution doesn't help either.

lol @ the Xbots crying how we're spending $40 for a $5 game. You guys do realize that there's over 60 levels in this version compared to your one right? I am definently getting the DS version and if I like that, we'll see about the Wii.

For those who cant be arsed to look around:

XBOX Version: 1 Level, Achievements, One player, scoreboards.

Wii Version: 60 Levels, 2 Players, Co-op and VS, Scoreboards,New Power ups and enemies, Bonus Content with DS version.

If you dont fancy it, guess you're missing out. cause it's definitely NOT the same as the 360 verion, which is already a pretty addictive game.

what the heck? Do you people even read the actual previews, or just read the title? There is a boatload more content in these games than there ever was on XBOX live. This is a full-fledged game. But I mean, whatever if you're not going to get it. You'll be missing out. I won't be. 8)

man, paying $5 is one thing, but paying $30 to $40 for basically the same thing like burning money

better to save my money for the next Trauma Center

ok wtf are you people talking about. xbox geometry wars= 1 level
wii/ds= over 60 levels. Its not too steep, you people just don't bothering reading the preview of the game. I'm looking forward to this on the ds so much.

Almost makes me want to buy a DS just for this. Geometry Wars is amazing.

I understand it's hard for people to pay $40 for something they paid $5 before, but they did add A LOT of content to the game so it is not the same game at all. This is a full puzzle game. Galaxies is just like Lumines, Planet Puzzle League etc full game with many modes, instead of one trail/demo version of Puzzle League with 1 stage.

$40 for geometry wars seems a bit steep.

$40 for something you can pretty much get for $5 on XBLM. This is ridiculous.

man i cant imagine paying that much for geometry wars...$40!?!

  • jroony96

    Posted Nov 6, 2007 3:43 pm GMT

$30-40 is pretty steep for this game. They should have added a lot more content to make this worth it.

    Posted Nov 6, 2007 3:26 pm GMT

well, I think that is great and everything...but geometry wars is on XBLA for like 10 bucks? I mean, for my wii, I'd rather have Super mario galaxy, Mario&Sonic at the olympic games, soulcalibur legends, and umbrella chronicles.

I also think it sucks that to get the 'whole' game unlocked you either need to rent the version you don't have (DS or Wii) or buy both. What a bunch of s...

$30 for the DS version. The price is PERFECT. Behind Smash TV, this was the only other thing I've EVER bought on the 360 Marketplace. And it was worth every penny.

Yeah, instead of dual analogs you have a pointer. And yes, something is keeping off the other systems... innovation. (-10 right there). No, really it should be on all the consoles. Something like this looks like everyone should be able to enjoy it.

wow, great job making it for every system that doesn't have dual analog sticks...

It seems a little much for an advanced version of Geomentry Wars.

Loved Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. It was my favorite Xbox Live Arcade game for a long time. Galaxies should be good, though I'm interested to see how well the Wii controls will work.

Why only the Wii and DS? Is there something about the gameplay that is keeping them from making it for other systems as well?

I'm all over the DS version of this game. $40 seems a bit pricey for the other one....
